From Flamingos to Yellowhammer and Black Swans.

The Tory Remainer is now a Dodo. Instead the party in inhabited by disaster capitalist Vultures. Jeremy Corbyn, meanwhile, has been labelled by the right wing press as a Chicken. The SNP would very much like Boris Johnson to be a Jailbird. The LDs are keen to sing like Canaries about the contents of BlackSwan. The Br

And the Tower of London is starting to get very jumpy about the whereabouts and location of its Ravens.

I would not, however, advise eating urban wild pigeons if things get desperate, from what I know of their health.

All I can find is a Torygraph article which from what I see, says that it could be possible for him to do it.

Where can derails of 19th October be found, please?

Basilpots · 15/09/2019 10:29

@Lonleyplanetmum

It’s in the Telegraph so you can make of it what you will.

Think the word could should be emphasised.

Details!
Bloody predictive!

You won't read it anywhere else, but seems the Euro is the cleanest currency of them all ...

aricjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/2047-2994-2-22

Money is one of the most frequently passed items in the world. The aim of this study was to ascertain the survival status of bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Vancomycin- Resistant Enterococci (VRE) on banknotes from different countries and the transmission of bacteria to people who come in contact with the banknotes. The survival rate was highest for the Romanian Leu yielding all three microorganisms used after both three and six hours of drying. Furthermore, the Leu was the only banknote to yield VRE after one day of drying. Other currencies either enabled the survival of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBL) and VRE (e.g. Euro), but not of MRSA, or the other way round (e.g. US Dollar). While a variety of factors such as community hygiene levels, people’s behaviour, and antimicrobial resistance rates at community level obviously have influence on the transmission of resistant microorganisms, the type of banknote-paper may be an additional variable to consider.

Paul Brand @paulbranditv
NEW: Home Secretary Priti Patel seems to be dropping a fairly big hint that the government has given up on the idea of leaving on October 31st without a deal.

“We have to leave and we have to leave with a deal”. #Marr

She repeated this phrase over and over again. Might be reading too much into it, but seems as if govt sees a deal as the only route to delivering on October 31st pledge.

NEW: Source close to Home Sec says she “slightly misspoke”.

“We're leaving on 31st come what may but want a deal. Preparing for no deal.”

Myriade - I think you're bringing unfair on (or forgetting about) the SNP who have consistently spoken about the benefits of the EU.

This was from June this year: Speaking ahead of the visit, Nicola sturgeon said: “Membership of the EU not only has huge economic benefits for Scotland, but is the basis of the core values we share around democracy, equality, co-operation and human rights.

And this from February 2016, calling for a positive campaign

Maybe that's another reason why Scotland voted 62% Remain Grin

DGRossetti · 15/09/2019 10:37

I was involved in a discussion today with people with a range of views. Someone was saying that a reason he voted to Leave was because the EU drafted laws that were badly written and that it was impossible to change them once they had been ratified.

Returning to this (late I know) but the other angle of debate is simply to ask if it's not a baby/bathwater case ? Because voting to leave - with all it's implications - seems a tad extreme reaction to a few overly-onerous regulations Hmm.

People always remember the headline, not the correction ...

Quite likely.
In England the leave campaign appealed to national pride, the remain campaign appealed to GDP... didn't have the same impact sadly.

Just wanted to acknowledge that I've been shit and constantly misspelled Sam Gyimah's name incorrectly. Blush

tobee · 15/09/2019 10:44

Sorry tautological comment from me above.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 15/09/2019 10:45

I have yet to see any politician here who actually defended the EU. All the talk has been about how hard it would be if the U.K. isn’t in it. Not about how amazing it would be to be part of it. Or that they have this fantastic European project they want to share. Being part of the EU is an ‘away reaction’ - to avoid something- not a forward action -to be aiming at something, to be reaching out towards.
I completely agree with this, and it was a massive failure of the Remain campaign too for not pushing this as well.

threadneedle · 15/09/2019 10:59

Twitter thread about police checks at the Northern Irish border. Irish police boarded a Belfast to Dublin bus checking passports.

Coincidentally, yesterday we drove from Dublin to Carlingford which is the most idyllic spot just on the Irish side of the border, if we had driven 10 minutes further we would have been in NI. Didn't occur to me to bring my passport, just in case.

Inniu · 15/09/2019 11:05

They can ask for ID when crossing the border but I don’t think there is any requirement to actually produce ID.
The Common Travel Area will still exist after 31 Oct

tobee · 15/09/2019 11:08

It is a bit concerning if it's seemingly as easy as extending the porogation of Parliament to get around the legality of not asking for an extension.

lonelyplanetmum · 15/09/2019 11:37

Thanks for the Torygraph links about a theroretical extension to the suspension..^^ ..

The Bad thing is it's the 'director of legislative affairs' at 10 Downing Street talked casually about more suspension. Who the hell is he anyway? How dare he be so casual about threatening suspending parliament.

Good thing is he only says the PM could suspend Parliament again after the Queens' Speech until at least Nov 6.

Apart from the obvious deadline - also worried about being open for business on Guy Fawkes anniversary I suppose.

What a bunch of charlatans. These games aren't clever they are cowardly. Politicians shouldn't be this frightened. Fearful of debate, frightened of their own powers of oration- frightened of the flaws and demerits of their own policy and belief. If something is right then persuade colleagues by honest open methods.

The good thing I guess is that there definitely seems a slight swing ...less pro government propaganda being broadcast and published in the MSM.

Ellie56 · 15/09/2019 11:57

As others have said, the current shenanigans in government overwhelmingly underline the need for a written constitution. BJ is a disgrace. Angry

chomalungma · 15/09/2019 12:00

This came up yesterday as well - a 'what has the EU ever done for you".

I think many people would be surprised at all the directives and regulations that have come from the EU.

In England the leave campaign appealed to national pride, the remain campaign appealed to GDP... didn't have the same impact sa

Also discussed. The emotional response vs the 'head' response to stay.

People need an emotional response not get No Deal. You'd have thought that Operation Yellowhammer would provoke an emotional response.

DGRossetti · 15/09/2019 12:06

And as if Brexit/no-deal couldn't get any worse, looks like events in Saudi are going to push fuel prices up worldwide.

tobee · 15/09/2019 12:17

You'd have thought that Operation Yellowhammer would provoke an emotional response.

The emotional response will be "it's project fear by rich London remoaners!"

tobee · 15/09/2019 12:17

(Why can't I highlight my copy and pastes?)

BigChocFrenzy · 15/09/2019 12:20

Trump getting elected was always the game-changer for Brexit

It sent the hard right nihilists into the ascendancy

Clinton, or indeed any previous GOP President, would have slapped down any UK govt that tried for anything but the softest Brexit
and might well have ordered them to ignore such a close result for something that has such disastrous consequences

However, Brexit is likely to be decided one way or the other long before November 2020
