From Flamingos to Yellowhammer and Black Swans.

The Tory Remainer is now a Dodo. Instead the party in inhabited by disaster capitalist Vultures. Jeremy Corbyn, meanwhile, has been labelled by the right wing press as a Chicken. The SNP would very much like Boris Johnson to be a Jailbird. The LDs are keen to sing like Canaries about the contents of BlackSwan. The Br

And the Tower of London is starting to get very jumpy about the whereabouts and location of its Ravens.

I would not, however, advise eating urban wild pigeons if things get desperate, from what I know of their health.

Also for the govt list:

Large supplies of handwavium
(one of the decay products of unobtainium)

That's why it's so strange to see you getting so worked up about stuff that is kind of irrelevant.

I guess we just see things differently then.

I can’t help being pissed off that there’s no choice and can’t just be in some weird bubble where people think it’ll all be fine if only the impossible happens

bear Hardly any of us think it will be all fine
We are just discussing the possibilities, rather than holding funeral rites

Of course if Labour had another leader, it wouldn't have got to this stage
Hell, Remain would probably have just won.

Bearbehind · 14/09/2019 22:55

His chances of winning a GE are poor, but one hell of a lot higher than that

Forgive me for not doing cartwheels over ‘higher than 1 in a million’

🤔

Like I said, if 1 person in the UK, right now, has the power to change things, it’s him, by fucking off.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2019 22:55

Clearest plan is:

  1. Avoid no deal.
  1. Depends on how 1 is achieved.

The situation is fluid. To achieve 1 requires cool heads and sensible thinking. Working together for a unified cause. Not pick, pick, picking at - imagined / exaggerated - deficiencies in someone who's aim is the same as yours (avoiding no deal).

To constantly slate somebody is immature. Like sixth form politics.

Your hair is on fire. Put out the fire then calm down, think clearly and go from there.

Refusing to properly consider what Labour is proposing (which many people are with their disingenuous 'but I don't get it', head tilt, comments) is childish and unhelpful in the current climate. Especially if you want to remain.

I have a puppy, can I be Prime Minister?

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/sep/13/brexit-boris-johnson-parliament-written-constitution

Our system relied on what the constitutional historian Peter Hennessy called “the good chap model of government”.

MPs and ministers respected the unwritten rules, observing taboos and following precedent,
fearing that they would be shamed if they did not.

But we are now in the era of shamelessness, when that sanction no longer applies

pigeononthegate · 14/09/2019 22:57

Just seen this comment on DigitalSpy forums, thought it might be of interest

"I don't know if there's a full Black Swan worst case scenario, but guessing there must be in Whitehall.

As said before, my NHS Trust compiled 2 reports that we sent to NHS England, one "most likely", that was used in part in YellowHammer, despite Gove's lies today in HOC saying it was "worst case". Our data and analysis from the South East was used in that paper.

We also have a "worst case" analysis, which was sent to Whitehall, and yes it is beyond dire for the NHS. As you say, if that leaks, it would cause panic, although I doubt people would believe it, as it's pretty much a collapse of many of our departments over the following months.

I only know our NHS assessments, and they were tragic, basically our hospital would be brought to it's knees. One example is a major flu outbreak is including in the "worst case', whereby we would not be able to take patients in, as we would be overwhelmed. At that point, loss of life to the elderly, and anyone with compromised immune systems is expected.

As said it's "worst case', can't believe it would happen, but we just don't know. I hope our fears never come anywhere close to that report."

flouncy "willywavium" is triggering when discussing The Johnson 🤮

thecatfromjapan · 14/09/2019 22:58

Can I just say thank you to everyone who is funny?

I really needed that today, for some reason.

I really appreciate it.

I follow Bonnie Greer on Twitter & she says how much she appreciates the humour-in-despair of the UK.

Maybe she has a point. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, you are all cheering me up no end.

I’m not ‘refusing to properly consider what Labour is proposing’

I genuinely have no idea what they are offering other than the current promise if not no deal.

TM wanted a deal but she had red lines that meant it wasn’t possible.

Therefore if Labour want a deal I want to know what red lines they’re dropping so people can decide if they think that makes it viable or not.

If it’s more cake and eat it then we know it’s not going to work.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2019 22:59

But nobody thinks that. How on earth are you even getting that message from these threads? Have you not even read DGR's posts?! (Sorry, DGR!)

It's perfectly reasonable to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Many aren't even doing the latter! Sometimes these threads are really dark.

I dunno, but fighting with yourself in a paper bag isn't very productive either!

Flouncy Indeed.

That's not the first time hospital closures have been mentioned on this thread.

If we were in an even remotely sane place in the UK, people would be deserting Brexit in droves.

It really is sobering to just stop, pause, and reflect on just how deranged it all is.

prettybird · 14/09/2019 23:03

I can sort of empathise with your frustration Bearbehind - especially given where you have "come" from Wink

At least in Scotland, I have the choice of SNP, which happens still to fit with my left wing beliefs and (now) Indy beliefs - even before I'd had to also add in a "pro-EU" self definition. Grin

If I lived in England, I don't have a clue who I'd vote for and really would have to examine closely and tactically how my pro-EU vote could most effectively be used on a constituency by constituency basis Confused.

But I'd also say don't take for granted that true blue Tories "can't" be unseated. In 2015, the SNP proved that "monkeys in red rosettes" could lose their seats, with majorities of 25,000+ being overturned, breaking the BBC swingometer in the processGrin

Bearbehind · 14/09/2019 23:04

But nobody thinks that

Well they do if they’re relying on anything involving JC becoming PM.

I appreciate I always turn this thread into a bun fight so I’ll leave you to it for the night.

Prepping KLAXON (imo):

get a flu vaccination➿ asap for all members of your household
Go private if you must (& can)

(➿unless medically advised against)

thecatfromjapan · 14/09/2019 23:05

Honestly, I thought about writing a dystopian short story, where a town goes to bed one night, and wakes up the next morning, with half the town completely mad. A cross between Steven King and Stanislavsky Lem.
But it just made me depressed whenever I started.
