From Flamingos to Yellowhammer and Black Swans.

The Tory Remainer is now a Dodo. Instead the party in inhabited by disaster capitalist Vultures. Jeremy Corbyn, meanwhile, has been labelled by the right wing press as a Chicken. The SNP would very much like Boris Johnson to be a Jailbird. The LDs are keen to sing like Canaries about the contents of BlackSwan. The Br

And the Tower of London is starting to get very jumpy about the whereabouts and location of its Ravens.

I would not, however, advise eating urban wild pigeons if things get desperate, from what I know of their health.

SInce May, Corbyn has promised a referendum on any Brexit deal

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/may/29/corbyn-pledges-labour-will-back-referendum-on-any-brexit-deal

He promised that a PV on Leave and Remain** will be in the manifesto

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-49646544

The LDems are still savaging him because he hasn't said he'd campaign for Remain
So what ?
Both in the 1975 and 2016 referedums, parties allowed MPs to campaign for either side

PM Harold Wilson sensibly stayed neutral, to prevent it being a vote for / against his govt
A pity Cameron didn't have that political sense

Hasenstein · 14/09/2019 19:41

So yes it is Sam Gymiah. Not very exciting really.

It is to me, he's my MP. He's always struck me as a very serious and thoughtful man (which is in itself unusual for a Tory MP). He's also been a good constituency MP who has helped me and other people I know.

I've long thought that his views on Brexit are wildly out of place in this Tory party, so I can't say I'm too surprised. I've emailed him to congratulate him and say I can finally vote for him.

Anyway, one more down, plenty more to go.

Former Tory leadership contender Sam Gyimah defects to Liberal Democrats
Sam Gyimah was this month effectively expelled from the Conservatives along with 20 of his colleagues.

👋 👋

Yay!

I'd prefer more defections from the Tories though. That would be proper news.

Will Nicky Morgan do a bizarre volte face? That I'd pay to see!

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2019 19:46

Oh wow, @PestyMachtubernahme, now that is rather exciting!

Flouncy, no my gob and fingers haven't yet learned to STFU!

Basilpots · 14/09/2019 19:46

Random exactly where I am.

Icantreachthepretzels · 14/09/2019 19:46

Even if Corbyn agreed to a PV - which he hasn’t - what would the choices be?

It literally spells this out in the link fluffy has posted. The plan is the deal vs remain. And no - they don't have the deal hammered out yet and they can't tell you exactly what it looks like because they're not bloody in charge. But once they are - they will get a deal first and then put it to a vote vs remain.

There is currently no talk from them about including no deal on the ballot. Presumably because it a logical nonsense of a policy (there has to be a deal eventually - and do we get to vote on that?) and because it is the disaster they are trying to avoid. Even Corbyn isn't dim enough to do everything in his power to avert disaster on 31st October and then ask the electorate is actually they'd quite like that disaster after all.

"no deal doesn't even really exist, given that a deal will almost-immediately have to be made. "

If only, fluffy Sad

What is expected, by many on my side of the water, is that if there is a Tory govt then they would likely hold out for several months, even a couple of years,
while great chunks of the poor bloody UK economy fall over the cliff
shortages worsen
and Sterling goes into a nosedive

If the govt then falls, or gives in, we'll likely need the IMF to rescue us, as well as the EU

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 14/09/2019 19:47

Who do you vote for if your MP is a Tory who voted Remain in the referendum but subsequently went all ERG, voted no to everything in the indicative votes except No Deal and is currently up on sexual assault charges, and you live in a constituency that voted heavily in favour of leaving the EU and where only party likely to beat the Tories would be the Brexit party? Sad

Asking for a friend...

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2019 19:47

I like your posts, pretzels! I know I often say that! 😁

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2019 19:50

BCF, if there's no VoNC before no deal, I think there would be after it, then a GE.

But even if there was a - stupid, dangerous, gross negligent - delay in doing deals, deals do have to be done, so no deal isn't a permanent thing and is therefore a nonsense option. IMO.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/09/2019 19:50

babooshka 😱 Like the MN advice when your house has ben invaded by giant spiders:
Run far away

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2019 19:51

I concur. Move away!

No Deal with the EU is a self-harm option, as 45% of our exports go there

However, we can't stop people voting for it in a Tory manifesto
people commit gross self-harm every day

JustAnotherPoster00 · 14/09/2019 19:52

I wonder how traditional LibDem members\voters are feeling about their party accepting so many Tories and are willing to stand aside in some Tory seats even thought the Tories support Brexit nd LibDems are now a revoke party, something isn’t adding up

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2019 19:54

Just, they're a bit ConfusedAngryHmm to be honest. Especially over Dr Lee; he caused a massive stink on the Facebook group!

Fluffy I can confirm you are not invisible.

I hear ya loud and clear.

It’s just deja vu.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/09/2019 19:57

poster00 Ah, but they haven't got "Corbyn Cooties"

I really think it's down to about that level of political sophistication in the LDems

Hopefully these new Labour & Tory MPs will bring a dose of reality into the Yoghurt Weavers and Lillies of the Valley that form the whacky LDem bubble
