Amid scenes parliament was shut down.

In an unprecedented comment the Speaker, stated it was not an ordinary prorogation and it was blatantly an attempt to stop the executive being held to account.

And now it seems a Scottish Court agree with him:
"Lord Brodie cont: "the principal reasons for the prorogation were to prevent or impede parliament holding the executive to account and legislating with regard to Brexit, and to allow the executive to pursue a policy of a no deal Brexit without further parliamentary interference"

Thus parliament must reopen. Unless the decision is overturned in a higher court.

This is constitutionally a big deal. The Queen is highly unlikely to attend a reopening, especially in this manner, due to how political it now is.

General Election campaigning has already began with parties trying to take full advantage of the fact that there are currently no rules over spending.

Dominic Cummings actively and openly campaigning for the Conservatives whilst paid as a civil servant by the tax payer is a huge breech of the Civil service code but MPs are struggling to pin the government down on this as its being obstructive.

Cummings is keen to use data to target and personalise people based on their usage of the .gov portal for Brexit. This is OK as its in the national interest apparently. Its also incredibly sinister and concerning about how this could be used against the population.

Anyway if you thought parliament closing would result in a lull in events you were very much mistaken!!

What next?

I think NHS and senior civil servants are already whistleblowing on the medicines scandal - and it's about time.

I'm one of those affected by the existing medicines shortages, as I've repeated on several threads. It's shit. And if I want to satirise a bunch of fascists trying to hide themselves in plain sight wearing the homoerotic cloak of being 'Spartans', then I will.

DGRossetti · 12/09/2019 17:48

Hopefully Camersons book will be pirated across the internet before you can say "Ahoy Me hearties" and he won't make much from it. Hard not to feel there's an element of blood money in it - RIP Jo Cox.

whyamidoingthis · 12/09/2019 17:49

@placemats - The EU is not, 'thoroughly fed up with us'.

I do think the EU is fed up of the UK. That is certainly the opinion of many people in Ireland. However, the GFA and NI means that the patience of Job is required as ensuring the GFA is not destroyed is much more important than the irritation and frustration with the UK.

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:50

Meanwhile PM is currently having a piece on an Independent Wales.

You really couldn't make this shit up.

If I wrote that in a novel it would be described as dystopian.

I work in a mental health hospital. If we can't get drugs we're fucked, if we can't get sufficient food we're fucked, I asked one of my leave supporting colleagues this week what they thought would happen in this scenario and he laughed at me and said "come on icannot, there's a supermarket across the road". I literally cried.

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:52

NO! IT IS NOT THE OPINION OF MANY PEOPLE OF IRELAND.

FOR FECK SAKE STOP SAYING THIS SHITE.

Just in case we'd forgotten - and for youngsters who never knew, here's is what an inspirational leader looks like.

In this picture he's committing America to getting to the moon - and back - in less than 8 years.

Although it's equally valid to say that the founding of the NHS and Welfare state was just as momentous - if not further reaching.

@placemats - NO! IT IS NOT THE OPINION OF MANY PEOPLE OF IRELAND.

Yes, it is. I am Irish, I live in Ireland. Brexit is a fairly frequent topic of conversation. Most people I know think the UK are being dicks (disclaimer - this is the UK government) and if it wasn't for the damage no deal would cause to Ireland, NI and the people who voted against brexit, letting them reap what they have sown might be no bad thing.

Just in case you think that means I am claiming my experience is that of all Irish, I'm not. I can only report on what I personally am experiencing and what I read.

I'm Irish too. And most people I know are very concerned and not at all fed up with Brexit. They would like another referendum or a people's vote. They totally understand the shit storm that is the current government.

ListeningQuietly · 12/09/2019 18:05

Out of interest I just followed my way down the rabbit hole of fervently Pro Brexit groups on Facebook.
They are full of conspiracy theories and jingoistic xenophobia
and bots
Sadly the only way to prove to them that Brexit is a bad idea, is to let it happen

placemats · 12/09/2019 18:07

I and others will never let Brexit happen just to prove point scoring. I value lives and livelihoods.

Unlike some on these boards. and my ERG MP

ListeningQuietly · 12/09/2019 18:09

How do you propose to stop Brexit?
How do you propose putting the UK into a position where it can move forwards and deal with the real issues ?

mrslaughan · 12/09/2019 18:11

The only way I can see revoke happening is if we no deal, and it is so disastrous (full on dystopian nightmare)that we go begging to the EU ..... and of course they have to take sympathy and allow us . That's the only way you will get the majority of politicians to go fuck - what have we done.
But I can't wish that on the population- no matter how stupid many have been.

So I really hope the WA comes back to parliament and it is passed.

Peregrina · 12/09/2019 18:11

I think NHS and senior civil servants are already whistleblowing on the medicines scandal - and it's about time.

I hope they have a concerted whistle blowing session. They can't all be shoved in prison. The NHS is something which most of us value, and the one thing that Leavers voted for - more money for the NHS. It is of course, the one thing that Boris Johnson was most closely associated with.

Maybe that will help to turn the tide.

placemats · 12/09/2019 18:12

Brexit will be stopped. Johnson and Cummings will be stopped.

It isn't over. It will never be over.

What exactly do you mean by the real issues?

ListeningQuietly · 12/09/2019 18:13

So I really hope the WA comes back to parliament and it is passed.
And then we have the joy of ten more years of Brexit negotiations.

admittedly I like that option too because a couple of years down the line, Brexit can be quietly redefined as staying in the CU and SM Grin

OublietteBravo · 12/09/2019 18:13

The only way I can see revoke happening is if we no deal

That doesn’t work. We can’t revoke A50 after we’ve left the EU. We’d have to apply to rejoin.

averylongtimeago · 12/09/2019 18:15

3 members of my immediate family are prescribed drugs which are "on the list".
I am in the EU and feeling abandoned by my government- my rights to live here depend on the UK giving reciprocal rights to EU citizens. I can't change my driving license - on hold till after Brexit, as is getting an appointment for a residence card.
I'm not alone in this- just one of many, just a statistic.

I know who I'm going to vote for (I can,not been out of the UK too long). I will vote for whoever can get rid of the bastards in the Tory party.

Oh, and thanks to all on these threads, much more reliable than listening to the news!

placemats · 12/09/2019 18:15

That scandal will be released.

It isn't over yet. Not by a long shot.

And if posters here think that the 31st October is the use by date, they are very much mistaken.

Stop being so negative. Do you honestly think for one minute this is anything like Trump getting into power?

I remember when actor Ronald Reagan got into power. The world didn't end then either.

Songsofexperience · 12/09/2019 18:16

Sadly the only way to prove to them that Brexit is a bad idea, is to let it happen

No. I don't care about being proven right.
I really really don't want no deal to happen. Dickheads can keep on being dickheads. In fact, even if we no deal they will NEVER admit they're wrong.

M15sterPip · 12/09/2019 18:18

Can someone explain what Black Swan is, please?

On Wikipedia it's a name for a phenomenon that occurs after unexpected and devastating events. It's a theory.

But is the Black Swan people are referencing on this thread the name of actual documents of some kind, or what?

mrslaughan · 12/09/2019 18:19

Exactly @ListeningQuietly .......
but we are still in the single market, I can't imagine Bozo will last......

This thing about the Spartans - when did that start and why? I first saw it yesterday, and realised they were referring to the ERG....... what's with this re-branding?

whyamidoingthis · 12/09/2019 18:20

@placemats I'm Irish too. And most people I know are very concerned and not at all fed up with Brexit.

I said people are fed up with the UK, not fed up with brexit. Like you, I and most people I know, are very concerned. Being fed up with the UK, who are basically acting like dicks and obviously don't give a crap about NI, the GFA or Ireland, is not the same as being bored with brexit. It's impossible to be bored with brexit given the hugely negative effects that will be visited on us if they no deal.

Again a disclaimer: when I say the UK are acting like dicks, I am referring to the government and the no deal types. I feel hugely sorry for UK people who either voted remain or who want an orderly brexit that maintains the GFA.

BirdandSparrow · 12/09/2019 18:21

Thanks Red, I'd seen that tweet but hadn't twigged she was the Yellowhammer journalist. I mean it makes sense that there would be a Black Swan, I mean you'd hope the govt would produce that kind of document, not just wing it completely.

Defo think Black Swan is about body bags and the like. If you just take the known information to its conclusions, thats' kind of where you end up. Project Fear my hairy arse.
