Westminstenders: "I don't give a flying flamingo"

Amid scenes parliament was shut down.

In an unprecedented comment the Speaker, stated it was not an ordinary prorogation and it was blatantly an attempt to stop the executive being held to account.

And now it seems a Scottish Court agree with him:
"Lord Brodie cont: "the principal reasons for the prorogation were to prevent or impede parliament holding the executive to account and legislating with regard to Brexit, and to allow the executive to pursue a policy of a no deal Brexit without further parliamentary interference"

Thus parliament must reopen. Unless the decision is overturned in a higher court.

This is constitutionally a big deal. The Queen is highly unlikely to attend a reopening, especially in this manner, due to how political it now is.

General Election campaigning has already began with parties trying to take full advantage of the fact that there are currently no rules over spending.

Dominic Cummings actively and openly campaigning for the Conservatives whilst paid as a civil servant by the tax payer is a huge breech of the Civil service code but MPs are struggling to pin the government down on this as its being obstructive.

Cummings is keen to use data to target and personalise people based on their usage of the .gov portal for Brexit. This is OK as its in the national interest apparently. Its also incredibly sinister and concerning about how this could be used against the population.

Anyway if you thought parliament closing would result in a lull in events you were very much mistaken!!

What next?

If there was ever any doubt that this is a fascist coup: today the Fail ran an article about the 'Spartans' (ERG undergoing a rebrand here?) pushing for an alliance with Farage... 'we need Farage' it says.

Good. That'll strip the rest of the "TrueTory" voters away and leave them high and dry. The truth at the heart of this is the ERG would have got nowhere if they hadn't sailed in under Tory colours.

In case anyone thought we might get the unicorn BoZoCum talks with EU
www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/sep/12/michel-barnier-no-grounds-for-reopening-brexit-talks

In a private briefing with the European parliament’s leaders, the EU’s chief negotiator said Boris Johnson’s officials had yet to offer any “legally credible and workable” proposals to replace the Northern Irish backstop on which the two negotiating teams could build.

In an earlier briefing with diplomats representing the EU27, a senior member of Barnier’s Brexit team had described the ideas so far put forward during technical talks between officials on both sides as “aspirational”.

“Another longish meeting without tangible progress on Wednesday,” said an EU diplomat, referring to the latest round of talks between the European commission and Johnson’s Brexit envoy, David Frost.

Don’t forget the unicorn is the national animal os Scotland.

It’s a sign I tell ya.

JeSuisPoulet · 12/09/2019 17:20

Possibly why BoZoCum is still pretending to negotiate? Defra won't release food info until then = control civvies. www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/sep/12/defra-refuses-disclose-details-no-deal-brexit-food-supply-disruptions

In its response, Defra confirmed it held the information, but said it would not release it on public interest grounds, arguing: “At this stage in our negotiations with the EU it is of vital importance that the government only release information, and at the appropriate time, when it is unlikely to impact those negotiations,” the reply said.

What would the Spartans mascot be a donkey with a cornetto on its forehead.Wink

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:21

I can't believe that there are posters on this thread who would rather have a WA than a no deal Brexit.

This isn't a bet, it's peoples lives, livelihoods, economic stability of the country.

Grow up! Listen and learn.

Revoke 50 or bring it back to the people is the only answer to the mess this country is in right now.

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:24

Does anyone believe anything Blow job says? I certainly don't believe anything Michael Gove says.

As for Nigel Farage? Who the fuck does he think he is?

kingsassassin · 12/09/2019 17:28

Of course I'd far rather revoke or have a second referendum @placemats but politically there is no realistic ability to do so without an extension of a lot longer than 3 months during which there is a general election with a Corbyn/ LD victory.

An election with another hung parliament or Tory government = no deal ( and that's the clearest indication form the polls at the moment)

The extension is in the hands of the EU who are thoroughly fed up with us and the PM won't ask for anyway.

There needed to be a sea change in public opinion to justify Pv or revoke - barring a clear Lib Dem's victory, that sea change is very unlikely to happen.

If it is a choice between a wA and a no deal Brexit, I would prefer a WA. While I think if we had no deal, we'd be begging to go back in with Schengen and the Euro within 6 months, but a lot of people would die in the meantime.

OublietteBravo · 12/09/2019 17:28

@DGRossetti your post made me smile:
Tony Blair managed to win 3 elections in a row for Labour (as did Mrs Thatcher).

Mrs Thatcher - that well-known Labour politician Grin

(I’m sure that wasn’t how you intended it to read)

SwedishEdith · 12/09/2019 17:29

RE: Labour Leavers being more Labour than Leave, I saw a comment on Twitter that there doesn't seem to be a lot of research on those who voted for the first and only time in 2016. Do they get included in some surveys through poor questions? Will/did they vote again in 2017? My instinct is the disengaged stay disengaged or would vote BXP but based on nothing substantial.

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:29

Farage is the type of person who is happy to take a wage from an institution he openly and vociferously despises. He is happy for others who are in his party to do exactly the same. Basic minimum salary 85,000 euro.

What would the Spartans mascot be a donkey with a cornetto on its forehead.

Too cute. What was Vlad the Impaler's coat of arms?

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:32

In 2016 the polls clearly indicated that Brexit would lose. kingsassassin

You are forgetting that great swathe of the electorate, the middle ground.

Your analysis is flawed based on flawed research and data.

Stop being afraid, get on with it and do something positive.

AutumnCrow · 12/09/2019 17:35

Weren't the Spartans reputed by their Graeco-Roman biographers to enjoy rather, erm, Etonian sexual practices?

Maybe the new name's a fetish thing. #FetishBrexit

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:36

The EU is not, 'thoroughly fed up with us'. The EU cares about Northern Ireland, a part of the UK.

kingsassassin try thinking outside the box of the Express and Daily Mail for once. Try thinking.

JeSuisPoulet · 12/09/2019 17:37

Makes you wonder what Cummings thought he was doing threatening them all from the get go... I think Black Swan might be cobbled together for us before the end of the night if the people getting it together in dribs and drabs aren't silenced. Far too many people have knowledge of this to keep it down after the rubbish spouted about "worst deal scenario" today.

Govt - "this is absolutely the worst case scenario, it'll never happen"

Wronged Civil Servant - "Hold my beer, I'm gonna leak #blackSwan"

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:38

Let's all have a laugh about Etonian sexual fetishes. Puerile nonsense.

Meanwhile people are going to die because of Brexit. More so than in any terror attack, a resurgence of the New Ira, any winter gales, any heatwave, any flooding.

JeSuisPoulet · 12/09/2019 17:40

As for meds being flown in - friend says the aviation authority have no plans or knowledge of this when contacted for details of where to hold them (by med proffs) despite med proffs on the ground being told this has been "arranged". Disconnected and disjointed.

DGRossetti · 12/09/2019 17:41

Weren't the Spartans reputed by their Graeco-Roman biographers to enjoy rather, erm, Etonian sexual practices?

No need to be coy - they certainly weren't. Man on man action was perfectly normal. And Spartans all lived with no women. And age was just a number ....

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:41

Oh and let's not forget that Johnson wants to spaff 15 billion pounds against a wall to build a bridge between Scotland and Northern Ireland.

WHAT THE FUCK?

placemats · 12/09/2019 17:44

Med proffs? What are you talking about? Jesuis

Peregrina · 12/09/2019 17:46

Cameron's book

I hope the extract isn't behind a paywall. Amusing in parts but damning.

JeSuisPoulet · 12/09/2019 17:47

Medical professionals - sorry, not keen to give too many details as I'm sure people will appreciate. I thought this would break last week but looks like it was staved off.
