Amid scenes parliament was shut down.

In an unprecedented comment the Speaker, stated it was not an ordinary prorogation and it was blatantly an attempt to stop the executive being held to account.

And now it seems a Scottish Court agree with him:
"Lord Brodie cont: "the principal reasons for the prorogation were to prevent or impede parliament holding the executive to account and legislating with regard to Brexit, and to allow the executive to pursue a policy of a no deal Brexit without further parliamentary interference"

Thus parliament must reopen. Unless the decision is overturned in a higher court.

This is constitutionally a big deal. The Queen is highly unlikely to attend a reopening, especially in this manner, due to how political it now is.

General Election campaigning has already began with parties trying to take full advantage of the fact that there are currently no rules over spending.

Dominic Cummings actively and openly campaigning for the Conservatives whilst paid as a civil servant by the tax payer is a huge breech of the Civil service code but MPs are struggling to pin the government down on this as its being obstructive.

Cummings is keen to use data to target and personalise people based on their usage of the .gov portal for Brexit. This is OK as its in the national interest apparently. Its also incredibly sinister and concerning about how this could be used against the population.

Anyway if you thought parliament closing would result in a lull in events you were very much mistaken!!

What next?

I don't believe that is the full document.... look at the disjoint on para 18... it is talking abut NI as if there is information to put it into context.

Looking at the structure of the doc (the reporting dept is in brackets at the end of each para) - it is unlikely that it is radio isotopes/ cancer treatment which is dealt with under para 6 with reported flow rates flagged by Dft … but Dft does not have it's own paragraph, MoD and MHCLG are also not reporting. Which is a worry given that MHCLG will be the recipient of much of previous EU funding (some of it recoverable soft loans....) and we are going to be stuck on a limb.

I wrote a more detailed report outlining the pros and cons and consequence of different potential locations for a new HQ for a combined health purchasing authority 25 years ago as an NHS manager, for consideration by the respective boards Confused

I think they've disclosed a medium version to soften people up to accept a border in the sea type solution.

Songsofexperience · 11/09/2019 20:52

It's ridiculous. We're a complex mature economy and we get 6 pages ?? Wtf

ContinuityError · 11/09/2019 20:53

That can only be an exec summary.

I’ve read bedtime stories that are longer than that.

You never give up do you! 😂😂😂😂

Whitehall has been hollowed out Big Choc. Most of the long serving older people with life experience and corporate memory left asap under vol redundancy in the early rounds post austerity.

Those left are under massive pressure and I suspect you would be horrified how relatively speaking ill paid, and inexperienced some of the more responsible post holders are.

That said, I suspect there is more detail behind this.

Rosamund Urwin @rosamundurwin
So lots of people asking what the redacted part is... Here goes:

"15. Facing EU tariffs makes petrol exports to the EU uncompetitive. Industry had plans to mitigate the impact on refinery margins and profitability but UK Government policy to set petrol import tariffs at 0% inadvertently undermines these plans." [More to come]

"This leads to significant financial losses and announcement of two refinery closures (and transition to import terminals) and direct job losses (about 2000). (2/3)

Resulting strike action at refineries would lead to disruptions to fuel availability for 1-2 weeks in the regions directly supplied by the refineries." (3/3)

No , Bear. I bloody don't. Even the PM was talking about it. Against/not against it.

Unescorted · 11/09/2019 20:56

Also nothing from Dept of International Trade... you would hope there was something going on there.

Otto English @Otto_english
You know how the Brexiters will respond to Yellowhammer. They'll brand it "Project Fear Mark 2." They'll say this without addressing any facts, or details. They'll just label it PF2. And thousands of cultists on social media and talk radio stations will just repeat it.

It's a base scenario.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/09/2019 21:04

It looks like this document could be the assumptions on which plans have been / are being made

it just doesn't go into the plans, resources, timing - maybe that's in an annex, or indeed the main body of a much bigger report

BigChocFrenzy · 11/09/2019 21:05

Layout scruffy & looks 1970s

  • wouldn't present this even as a summary of issues, except at the most informal team meeting

If that’s not just the exec summary then I’d be seriously concerned about ministers not being supplied with a complete report with the base data and full modelling.

It looks bloody half-arsed for something that was supposed to happen in March.

Either they don't expect to carry out Brexit or just don't care about the chaos. Mumsnet contributors could do better on a voluntary thread in 48 hours!

Mr Men stories are longer and more complex.
I sincerely hope that this is a faked document meant for leaking. Otherwise we are less prepared for leaving than I could possibly have imagined.
