Are we really saying we think either side of the Channel would sit on their hands while people in the UK starve or go short of vital medicine

Yes they would because it wouldn't affect our rulers, do not forget we've voted for this, despite all the warnings pre and post the referendum.

There would be public outcry if that was our attitude to the recent hurricane victims in the Bahamas

We've done SFA to support these victims, considering the scale of the disaster and if the govt said 20,000 victims could come to the UK... there would indeed be a public outcry!!!

twofingerstoEverything · 12/09/2019 07:48

Because if this becomes the norm, those with the deepest pockets will always be able to overrule the govt.
This suggests that the judiciary is corrupt and susceptible to bribery and is straight out of the 'enemies of the people' playbook which - taken to the nth degree - could lead to an Erdogan-style 'purge' of the judiciary. Be careful what you wish for.

mummmy2017 · 12/09/2019 08:38

I heard something today about remain being a herd, they are so frightened of leaving the EU that any Information they hear is jumped on to back their view, and anything that doesn't is rejected.
There are more ports than just Dover.
An emergency corridor for medical needs has already be announced.
When snow stops the movement of food around the country, it is sorted why you think Brexit shortages will not be sorted in the same way?
Electric supply always changes and winter always effects this, so your going to blame Brexit for something that happens every year?
Oh and the polls say people want out and the percentage has been rising for leave.

Songsofexperience · 12/09/2019 08:40

Hilarious projection

any Information they hear is jumped on to back their view, and anything that doesn't is rejected.

Parker231 · 12/09/2019 08:48

As I’ve said before people don’t understand how supply chain in the food industry or manufacturing works. The system comes to a halt if there are delays. This is one of the reasons why some of the car manufacturers are moving production to the EU where there are frictionless borders.

DustyDiamond · 12/09/2019 08:52

This suggests that the judiciary is corrupt and susceptible to bribery

That's not what I understood it to infer at all.

Rather, the people with the deepest pockets will make a habit of bringing court cases about each & every thing they disagree with.

Some may be ruled in favour, some not, but the outcome would be a paralysed govt which is constantly having to defend its decisions to the court.

And a fuck tonne of public money being wasted in the courts defending their decisions.

HoC & HoL are our democracy - the courts should be separate.

bellinisurge · 12/09/2019 08:54

Seems like it's going to take longer for some people to wake up to the Brexit cult.
There are easier, calmer ways to Brexit and some people are too afraid of looking dumb to admit it.

twofingerstoEverything · 12/09/2019 08:56

mummy I heard something today about remain being a herd, they are so frightened of leaving the EU that any Information they hear is jumped on to back their view, and anything that doesn't is rejected.

And I heard something today about leave being a cult, who are so afraid that the precious, unspecified 'thing' that they won might not materialise that they jump on all sorts of lame excuses to dismiss the government's impact report (it's project fear!) so as not to disturb their confirmation bias.

KennDodd · 12/09/2019 08:57

mummmy2017

You know I agree with you on that. People do ignore/dismiss evidence that doesn't support their view, we're all susceptible to it. The psychology around Brexit is really interesting. I know I'm as vulnerable to it as anyone else that's why a really try to examine new evidence as it comes up. With regard to the economics of Brexit, I know nothing about economics, I read the FT sometimes but as a complete lay person. 90% of economists think Brexit will damage the economy, I'll just go with what they say, why would someone like me think I know better than the governor of the BoE? I'd just be embarrassing myself. Likewise with climate change, I'll just go with what the vast majority of experts think. Likewise with Yellowhammer, written by experts after examining the evidence, why would I somehow think I know better?

I really recommend Beyond me Curve to see this psychology in action.

bellinisurge · 12/09/2019 09:01

I fail to see how a Remain voter like me who is willing to accept an orderly Brexit is acting like they are in a cult.
@mummmy2017 you can have leave without the Yellowhammer stuff. It's called a border in the sea WA. Tell your MP.
Or be the reason those horrible things in Yellowhammer happen. You and other No Dealers will be personally responsible.

TheSultanofPingu · 12/09/2019 09:03

Where's the landlady of this establishment buggered off to anyway?

Bearbehind · 12/09/2019 09:10

When snow stops the movement of food around the country, it is sorted why you think Brexit shortages will not be sorted in the same way?

Snow melts - Brexit is permanent

Has that really not occurred to you?

bellinisurge · 12/09/2019 09:10

Panic buying, probably.

Oranginna · 12/09/2019 09:12

Thanks for your post @Dustydiamond. You put it better than me.

What does everyone think about Olly Robbins going straight off to work for Goldman Sachs, the major donor to the Remain campaign? It just looks like he was always working for them.

mummmy2017 · 12/09/2019 09:15

And supply routes will not disappear.
It said a disruption, not that items will vanish.

Songsofexperience · 12/09/2019 09:17

I really recommend Beyond me Curve to see this psychology in action.

Very good documentary indeed. Flat Earthers have often gone through many other conspiracy theories. Questioning if the Earth is a globe is the ultimate rejection of experts.

So, first you believe the bus, then that No Deal is fine, next stop: you ask for proof the Earth isn't flat!

Bearbehind · 12/09/2019 09:17

mummmy and how do you think that will work for time critical deliveries such as fresh produce or isotopes?

Bearbehind · 12/09/2019 09:20

you can have leave without the Yellowhammer stuff. It's called a border in the sea WA. Tell your MP.

It can’t just be me that is driven insane by this constant comment.

This option isn’t on the table - other than BJ has denied it, so it might be.

Brexit cannot be resolved simply by lopping off one part of the UK.

That’s not acceptable to a lot of people, not just the DUP.

ContinuityError · 12/09/2019 09:20

What does everyone think about Olly Robbins going straight off to work for Goldman Sachs, the major donor to the Remain campaign? It just looks like he was always working for them.

Possibly the same way as people feel about Crispin, who donated almost twice as much to the Leave campaign and personally benefits from every drop in Sterling.

ContinuityError · 12/09/2019 09:20

Crispin Odey

Songsofexperience · 12/09/2019 09:22

Interestingly in Behind the Curve, they show how flat earth videos exploded on YouTube in 2015-16.

Parker231 · 12/09/2019 09:23

My understanding was that creating a customs border in the Irish Sea with a Northern Ireland-only backstop has already been rejected by Boris and the DUP.

bellinisurge · 12/09/2019 09:23

Bear, I know you don't agree with it. Do you really think having a dig every time I say it is productive? Come up with something else that protects GFS. I don't care. But if you are embracing No Deal, you are embracing everything on Yellowhammer. You seem to want it for this cy.

bellinisurge · 12/09/2019 09:24

GFA not GFS. country not cyπŸ˜‚

Oranginna · 12/09/2019 09:24

But Crispin Odey was not a senior civil servant and supposedly impartial. He would not have had any input to Yellowhammer whereas Robbins most certainly did.
