Claire Fox has saved Labour the bother. THIS is what Lexit sounds like.

Would be very very funny if the Supreme Court decided that the best sanction for Boris was to call an instant GE. οΏΌ

That would be glorious!!

What right does a Scottish court have to dictate to Parliament? Hopefully English Judges will sort this out on Tuesday.

All this chaos just shows we need to get out of the EU in October, I cant believe people want this to drag on for another 3 month (or 2 years depending on what the EU dictate).

GoodJobSteve · 11/09/2019 14:50

As per Varadkar: any sort of Leave (with deal, without deal, whatever) is years more of chaos while a new relationship is negotiated. You want an end to chaos? Better start agitating to revoke A50 Wink

MysteryTripAgain · 11/09/2019 14:52

Is this a pro-Brexit or an anti-Brexit thread

MN is mostly a female dominated site and in general pro-remain. Leave supporters tend not to post on the Brexit threads as the remain supporters ask them to explain why they think UK will be better off by leaving the EU. If a leave supporter makes a typo or an incorrect quote, all the remain supporters say:

Nananananana. The leave supporter has made a mistake. Surely that proves brexit should be canceled?

Tonnerre · 11/09/2019 14:53

What right does a Scottish court have to dictate to Parliament?

The right given to it under the British constitution. HTH.

Parker231 · 11/09/2019 14:55

No 10 are resisting pressure to recall Parliament - Boris and his team are pathetic. They won’t come back because they can’t explain they are doing nothing to avoid a no deal Brexit.

MysteryTripAgain · 11/09/2019 14:56

The right given to it under the British constitution. HTH

Guess that's indyref 2 down the pan then?

WhatdoImean · 11/09/2019 15:00

Best answer to the question "Why are the courts intervening in the role of the Government?" I have seen:-

"Because the Government break the law...."

If you don't want the courts involved, don't break the law....

AuldAlliance · 11/09/2019 15:05

Guess that's indyref 2 down the pan then?

What do you mean?

MysteryTripAgain · 11/09/2019 15:07

@whatdo

Problem is that courts are making different rulings on the same subject. So how do you differentiate between the law abiders and the law breakers?

GoodJobSteve · 11/09/2019 15:11

MysteryTripAgain

My understanding is that the English court decided it was not something that they could rule on, so couldn't say whether the Gov had broken the law or not. They may well have agreed with the Scottish courts had they taken a view!

Dapplegrey · 11/09/2019 15:15

go to the country in a GE & set out their stalls honestly, once & for all.

I agree.

Rhubarbisevil · 11/09/2019 15:17

I can’t keep up!

bellinisurge · 11/09/2019 15:20

Scottish law is different to English law.
We are in a Union with Scotland. That's what can happen if you are in a Union. Grin
Also, on a related topic, things like agriculture are devolved matters. Post Brexit if Scotland, say, decides that it should subsidise its farmers or that there should be different labelling on food sold in Scottish shops, there's not a damn thing UK Parliament can do about it.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

MysteryTripAgain · 11/09/2019 15:20

@BadJobPaul

The Scottish judge said same first time around

GoodJobSteve · 11/09/2019 15:24

Indeed, MysteryTripAgain. However the point was:

So how do you differentiate between the law abiders and the law breakers?

no-one has yet said the Government were law abiders on this topic.

Parker231 · 11/09/2019 15:33

**Dapplegrey. - can’t risk a GE whilst Boris is still threatening a no deal

MysteryTripAgain · 11/09/2019 15:37

@ParkerPen

A GE makes no deal more likely.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/09/2019 15:37

What law does prorogation break?

Is there a law dictating the length of prorogation?
Is there a law dictating that only ideologically pure prorogation's are allowed?

The judges definitely seem to have ruled for political reasons rather than the breaking of any constitutional laws. I would expect the SC to sort these Scottish Judges out.

bellinisurge · 11/09/2019 15:41

"These Scottish judges" are looking at Scottish law. Because it is different to English law. Scotland, which is in a Union with England, has always had its own legal system.
Once we get your Brexit we will need to work within another Union, the one with Scotland. It has devolved powers on all sorts of things. If it makes changes to requirements for producers supplying the Scottish market, those producers will need to abide by those rules to trade in the Scottish market. Even if they are producers in Berwick or Carlisle.

MysteryTripAgain · 11/09/2019 15:41

What law does prorogation break

None. John Major did the same and was not illegal.

Scotland voted 62% to remain in the EU. So biased for 62% sure

time4chocolate · 11/09/2019 15:44

Guess that's indyref 2 down the pan then?

Exactly what I was thinking too!!

MysteryTripAgain · 11/09/2019 15:50

@time4fourbeers

Haha. Humour is the best medicine.

Have to laugh sometimes. Too many on these threads dropping logs in their 3 weeks old underwear instead of enjoying life while they can.
