This is not going to end well, the seed for even further division just been sowed. Well done πŸ‘ πŸ‘πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

DustyDiamond · 11/09/2019 11:38

Everyone playing their parts to perfection Time4!!

I'd like to see that any change of PM triggering an immediate GE.

Me too JasJas.

The FTPA needs to be repealed as well - it's badly devised & has proven to be unfit for purpose.

Ideally, I'd like to see: FTPA repealed, by-elections mandatory if MP voluntarily resigns the party whip, and mandatory GE if PM changes. mid-term.

DustyDiamond · 11/09/2019 11:42

SNP leaflets today banging on about the terrible Tories & Brexit - only way to 'save Scotland' is to vote SNP.
Apparently...

...except they explicitly denied us all the opportunity to exercise our vote, twice in the last week.

No sense of irony with any of the opposition parties who are banging this drum πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

AuldAlliance · 11/09/2019 11:42

Judges make rulings based on the law, not on what the political outcome of their rulings will be. That's how it works in democracies. They studied the evidence and found that BJ hadn't demonstrated a need for so long a prorogation.

A response like this is not so far removed from those "enemies of the people" headlines, for which there should have been prosecutions.

GoFiguire · 11/09/2019 11:46

Is this a pro-Brexit or an anti-Brexit thread?

Parker231 · 11/09/2019 11:48

Just seen the news about the Scottish courts ruling the shutdown of parliament was unlawful! What next!

time4chocolate · 11/09/2019 11:51

5 days!! He will just reconvene Parliament and close it for conference again. Waste of time and money.

If you say so.

Everyone playing their parts to perfection Time4!
πŸ‘πŸ» I need to keep reminding myself of that Dusty😊

Parker231 · 11/09/2019 11:57

MP’s shouldn’t be wasting time at conferences until Brexit is resolved.

BelleHathor · 11/09/2019 12:03

MPs should have cancelled summer recess if Brexit was so important πŸ€”

Mistigri · 11/09/2019 12:07

5 days!! He will just reconvene Parliament and close it for conference again.

Not if MPs vote - as they will, if given the chance - that parliament should either not take a recess at all during conference season, or should take a shorter one.

Parker231 · 11/09/2019 12:16

It’s backfired on Boris - he wanted everyone out of the way so they wouldn’t have an opportunity to question him about progress, or lack of it, on the Brexit discussions with the EU.

DustyDiamond · 11/09/2019 12:18

If the various parties were in any way genuine about their horror that Parliament would not sit during September/October they'd have cancelled their upcoming conferences over the summer months.

That they did not was proof that they had no intention at all of sitting during the conference season.

It's entirely confected outrage to score political points.

5 sitting days lost.
What the fuck were they going to 'debate' that they've not already said in last 3 years?

The last few days they did have was just filled with bollocks.
Fawning over Bercow for hours & tantrumming about 'losing precious time' - all the while wasting time like they've repeatedly done thus far.

All Brexit related debates are just endless bollocks of the same shit - variations on 'people's vote', revoke, no-deal is bad, no-deal is best, 'Parliament must have a say', 'damaging Tory Brexit', 'GE now' blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

They need to fuck off, go to the country in a GE & set out their stalls honestly, once & for all.

The current parliament is toxic.

ContinuityError · 11/09/2019 12:18

Government doesn’t call recess for conference. MPs get to vote on recess - and they haven’t had that vote.

GoodJobSteve · 11/09/2019 12:23

I wonder if the OP regrets their liberal use of the Union flag in the first post now Grin.

Mistigri · 11/09/2019 12:26

Looks like humble pie's on the menu tonight, lads.

time4chocolate · 11/09/2019 12:36

Let’s see if the outrage at proroguing parliament transfers to votes against recess - Jeremy loves a conference Smile

ContinuityError · 11/09/2019 12:44

Well, if they get the opportunity, how do you think they’re going to vote now, time4 ? Wink

ContinuityError · 11/09/2019 12:47

And recess is different to suspension - committees still sit, for instance.

time4chocolate · 11/09/2019 13:05

Well, if they get the opportunity, how do you think they’re going to vote now, time4 ?

Well, I know what I think they should do. Do I think it will happen? Haven’t got a scooby dooSmile

howabout · 11/09/2019 13:46

Everything Dusty said this morning.

Repeal FTPA
By election if you cross the floor or get sacked
SNP looking ridiculous

ABSOLUTELY

Also agree with time4chocolate Shaping up nicely for People vs Parliament and Courts.

Small footnote. The judgement doesn't affect the actual act of the Queen proroguing but rather the propriety of the advice given to her by the Government. This distinction digs up another hornet's nest about whether the Queen has or indeed should have any discretion in this regard.

If judges merely followed the law then there would be no need for courts.

Kind of expected this judgement and interesting timing engineered. Supreme Court was the logical place to kick the final decision to as there are concurrent cases in England and N Ireland.

Would be very very funny if the Supreme Court decided that the best sanction for Boris was to call an instant GE. Grin

MysteryTripAgain · 11/09/2019 13:59

What a stormer that would be.

Fedupcitizen · 11/09/2019 14:07

β€œWould be very very funny if the Supreme Court decided that the best sanction for Boris was to call an instant GE.”

Is that a possibility? Grin

howabout · 11/09/2019 14:10

No idea Fedup but came to mind when I was trying to fathom what the sanction would be. We've long since entered the realm where all things are possible. Smile

According to the BBC's Norman Smith
"Labour MP asked to come on News Channel to talk about Brexit - declines cos says no longer any idea what party's policy is on Brexit."

Not just me then Grin

I think we are now in the twilight zone! Grin

howabout · 11/09/2019 14:13

Tom Watson tweeting pictures of himself turning up to PMQs despite them not happening. Tempted to suggest he and JC step up to debate Labour Brexit policy instead ..... in fact why just stop at Brexit
