Westminstenders: "He's in trouble". No he's not.

RedToothBrush · 06/09/2019 00:48

All day I've seen nothing but comments and tweets about he Johnson is in trouble and he's losing it.

They are wrong. He's far from done.

Take a step through the Looking Glass and the world looks different.

Those tweeting and reporting all care about events and are following closely. They are unrepresentative of the population as a whole who don't give two shiny shits.

And so we have the Trump dynamic.

The Liberal elite of broadcasters and journalists who are only seeing through the lens of their own judgement, not from the repackaged marketing.

Instead they are unwittingly publishing the images and slogans in the format Johnson wants and enter the minds of the public as planned.

The media are out of step with perceptions. And that's worrying. They don't see what's coming.

Johnson will have an election at some point. With the Tory party cleansed of moderates it is the Brexit Party one way or another, whether it be by takeover or coalition. And its riding high in the polling.

Even though even his brother has abandoned him, the future looks positive for Johnson as his opponents have a complete lack of self awareness and no understanding of the opposition they are taking on; they are campaigning in a way that plays into the hands of Johnson.

Despite his lack of majority and apparently absence of plan or speech notes, the biggest mistake you can make now is to write off Johnson.

You do so at your own peril.

Pay close attention to how authoritarians work and what's already happened in the US. We are on course to repeat it.

It's a pity that the Police Chief couldn't just have ordered his student officers to move aside, as soon as Johnson went on to party politics. It would have stopped the proceedings for a moment and maybe stopped the flow from the floppy haired one.

I do wonder if the floppy haired one is testing how far he can go.

bombomboobah · 06/09/2019 11:58

I presume he meant to convey a sense of total loyalty to his country, but now he has evoked an image of himself as a vagrant who falls unseen and expires in a ditch, or a murder victim later discovered by dog walkers.
it's one thing to be prepared to die for your country but this is not the death of a valiant hero
It's just not a good look 😣

I know I'm the minority in here with my leftist views and I'm ok with that but anyone who is interested have a look at the 2017 manifesto as a whole document and not just bullet points per se and I feel it goes about addressing those very things Red nd I'm not saying Corbyn is seeing the idea of the NES as his Bevan moment but it does make a lot of sense, Id love Britain to be ahead of the curve on R&D, green technology/energy, STEM and having a well resourced education system from cradle to grave [eye roll] means all the above would be possible, and the fact that SEN schooling well get the resources it needs which is about effing time

Spiderhands · 06/09/2019 12:04

Caitlin Moran on Twitter - Why make "die" an option? Who makes "die" an option? Why is "die" suddenly on the table? Who the fuck looks at the Menu of Possibilities and goes 'Fuck more buses - It's DIE for me!"

Sadly, though, its not us he's trying to appeal to

I agree that we need a very different approach to housing, I think we need to start seeing it as a common good much as we see access to education and healthcare as a common good that everyone should have.
Access to decent affordable housing is just as necessary for a functioning modern society as is access to education, healthcare, water, electricity, internet.

We all should have a share in the benefits of modern life which have accrued through collective efforts over the generations.

Here ends this party political broadcast

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/09/2019 12:09

Thatcher killed housing the minute she commodified the social housing and its progressively gotten worse since then, we need mash social housing building and remove the stigma from renters like Germany have (I believe BCF can pick me up on that if I'm wrong)

Please remember the formation of the NHS came out of one of these type of conversations: The idea that everyone should have equal access to care even if the could afford it already.

I guess the problem comes from the fact private healthcare and private education is so expensive, very few people can afford it. Whereas childcare or child benefit is easily manageable for many.

There is no ideal solution though and I think entirely aligning your views with one political party whilst automatically dismissing those of another on principle is not sensible.

A bettered tiered tax system would be the answer but neither main party is proposing that

Where as spiderhands has proved that even while on a good income doesnt make that true anymore because of all aspects of our society due to austerity have been hit hard and all its doing is shuffling all the problems into the worst effect instead of preventative measures earlier on and thats costing people more but it just isnt taken directly from your tax, neo liberalist capitalism (dont worry I roll my eyes saying it too) has had its chance and weve learned some very valuable lessons good and bad that we can now take forward, combine them with some of the lessons on socialism we've sort of learned and come up with a fairer more representative version of the rich nation we were going to be before we get turned into Argentina on the Thames

DGRossetti · 06/09/2019 12:16

Returning to last years talk of the GNU, and someone (correctly) pointing out the Education Act was passed in1944, reminded me that the Germans were apparently quite impressed with the Beveridge report and some had proposed adopting it in the Reich. Annotated copies being found in the Fuhrerbunker.

Now I read that somewhere in a book, but Google refuses to confirm it ...

Speaking of documents from the Fuhrerbunker ..

ustr.gov/sites/default/files/Summary_of_U.S.-UK_Negotiating_Objectives.pdf

IntroductionOn October 16, 2018, the Trump Administration notified Congress that the President intendsto negotiate a trade agreement with the United Kingdom (UK) once it leavesthe European Union (EU), in accordance with section 105(a)(l)(A) of the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 (the Trade Priorities and Accountability Act). Our specific objectives for this negotiation will comply with the specific objectives set forth by Congress in section 102 of the Trade Priorities and Accountability Act.The United States seeks to support higher-paying jobs in the United States and to grow the U.S. economy by improving U.S. opportunities for trade and investment with the UK. As the first and fifth biggest globaleconomies, the U.S.economic relationship withthe UKis oneofthe largest and most complexin the world, with annual two-way trade totaling more than $230 billion. Despite thissignificant trade volume, multiple tariff and non-tariff barriers havechallenged U.S. exporters in key sectors while the UK has been a Member State of the EU and therefore apart of the common trade policy of the EU. The UK’s decision to leave the EU creates a new opportunity to expand and deepen the U.S.-UK traderelationship. A new U.S.-UK trade agreement could address these challenges,as well asprovide an opportunity todevelop new approaches to emerging trade areaswhere the United States and the UK share common interests and are global leaders, such as digital trade and financial services

French news just reporting that Boris Johnson would rather be "mort au fond d'un fossé".
Not a good look for an international audience.

Basilpots · 06/09/2019 12:21

@JustAnotherPoster00

The fact that you have different views but can express them with a reasoned standpoint is why it’s good that you are here.

I’m not a Labour supporter but even I can see Corbyn gets ‘Hillaried’ by the media so having you on here to de bunk some of the worst myths helps me.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/09/2019 12:23

Thank you Basil thats appreciated

DGRossetti · 06/09/2019 12:23

So ? They don't get a vote in the UK.

Bearbehind · 06/09/2019 12:25

Where as spiderhands has proved that even while on a good income doesnt make that true anymore because of all aspects of our society due to austerity have been hit hard

just I admire you determination if nothing else.

Austerity has absolutely nothing to do with whether someone who earns ‘comfortably into 6 figures’ can afford childcare

Blame austerity all you like but it’s simply not applicable here.

The fact is spider does not need that money as much as others do

This is why I don’t understand your logic - you blame austerity for everything and want to hand out funds left right and centre but haven’t explained what will give to fund it.

The proposed increase on tax for £80k plus isn’t going to fund it - it’s not enough of a difference

missclimpson · 06/09/2019 12:27

@DGRossetti I am perhaps being old-fashioned in expecting a Prime Minister to want to present a good image on the world stage.
As opposed to not giving a toss. 😀
