Goodness me this is madness

Now what - can he even carry on?

There will be an election. Corbyn will have to vote for one.

Bearbehind · 03/09/2019 17:17

he will win as he will have pushed brexit through

Really?

It clear he doesn’t want no deal but doesn’t have any alternative -so what does he ‘push through’?

NoBaggyPants · 03/09/2019 17:22

sheep, he won't if the Tories use it as a means of pushing through no deal.

Also an interesting discussion at the moment, if we go into a GE campaign period, then the opposition must be given access to Brexit planning documents that are currently being withheld. They need to make plans too, pending the outcome of a GE.

jasjas1973 · 03/09/2019 17:24

Johnson looked and sounded totally thrown by the questions asked of him, rambling at best.
TBH made T.May look a highly competent public speaker.

Watching the Tory tear themselves apart and become the far right national socialist party would be rather funny if it weren't so serious.

Interesting to see May sitting with Hammond.

noodlenosefraggle · 03/09/2019 17:30

He said he won't ask for an extension. Which I thought was telling. He's hearing up to blame remainer MP's for forcing him to ask for an extension. The problem is that there has to be an end to this. Extension after extension is damaging EU economies too much for them to keep agreeing. I'"m hoping they put a condition on any extension that we revoke A50 and have another referendum when we know how we want to leave. I doubt that will happen though. I think the most likely is that BoJo will ask for some small change to the WA like a 10 year backstop limit, chuck it back at the Commons and it will pass with cons, dup and/or opposition MP's in leave constituencies. Surely all they need is all the Tories, dup and Kate Hoey for example?

Deathgrip · 03/09/2019 17:32

Years ago I used to work for a film magazine and one of my regular jobs was reviewing DVDs. I reviewed a series of HIGNFY which had an extra made up of BJ outtakes. He was the biggest idiot I’ve ever been exposed to, could barely string a sentence together, and was the butt of every joke. I would never have believed that man would be tasked with running our country at the worst possible moment. What an absolute joke we are.

noodlenosefraggle · 03/09/2019 17:36

nobaggypantsto be honest, as much as I don't believe BJ has made any progress on a deal, I don't believe JC doesn't want a no deal. I still have suspicions that he wants no deal, but he wants the Tories to be blamed for it.

VanGoghsDog · 03/09/2019 17:46

@Bearbehind

He will push through brexit. If that means there's no deal, then that is what he will do. And blame everyone else of course.

The election will be after end Oct and he will then get a majority as all the brexit supporters vote Tory in jubilation and all the non supporters who always vote Tory do the same since brexit is 'behind us'.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/09/2019 17:49

Omg. I’m watching sky. Just seen a guy behind a sewing machine in Mansfield I think. He was clearly not very bright. He’s going to be so worse off. People have no idea.

berlinbabylon · 03/09/2019 17:52

The only worry I have is that the Tories are so far ahead in the polls that they could get a majority, and it will be a majority of brexiteers after all moderate MP's are deselected

I agree to an extent but I don't think there would be time to deselect (all) the moderate MPs and I also think if there were a sensible majority (for either party) we'd get a deal through much more quickly.

But there's every chance of another hung parliament as the Tory seats in Scotland are likely to go elsewhere.

Shame we didn’t have 2/3 majority for Brexit. What idiots to allow it to be 50% plus the pre-2015 election house of Commons (and Lords)

Autumnintheair · 03/09/2019 18:08

Incredible times.

Who knows what will happen tonight.
It's melt down.

But the back drop to the cross party meltdown is a vote to I wave the eu.
I think we need an election and flush out parliament.

Tonnerre · 03/09/2019 18:08

That was an astonishingly poor performance by Johnson. He really can't perform unless he's talking to a nice, uncritical crowd of supporters, and his inability to do his homework really shows. I've rarely seen a serving Prime Minister get such a kicking in the Commons, even May never did as badly as that.

Autumnintheair · 03/09/2019 18:10

Tory and brexit in cahoots would easily win.

Deathgrip · 03/09/2019 18:12

I don't believe JC doesn't want a no deal. I still have suspicions that he wants no deal, but he wants the Tories to be blamed for it.

I believe BoJo has a secret herd of unicorns shitting enough gold to save us all from Brexit hyperinflation...

Which is as likely as what you just said. Corbyn in no way wants No Deal. What crap.

Nat6999 · 03/09/2019 18:16

I'm watching it live, BJ has just popped home to walk the dog & clear up after him. How irresponsible of a dog rescue to allow someone who will be moving soon to adopt a dog.

Weezol · 03/09/2019 18:19

Just picturing Philip May passing Teresa a massive G&T as she settles in to watch a repeat of Ben Stokes doing the business at Headingley.

areyoureadytobestrong · 03/09/2019 18:19

Nat6999

most comprehensible thing anyone's said all day, thank you.

can't make head or tail of the rest of it though and am silently hoping a reincarnation of Tony Blair comes along and we all go back to the late 90s.

Snowjive2 · 03/09/2019 18:20

The motion today and the bill tomorrow will be passed, so leaving date moves to end Jan for a GE. Labour, Lib Dems, SNP, Plaid will all campaign on Remain/PV tickets. No single party will win a majority of seats, but majority in Parlt will vote for a PV with options: Remain or Whatever Deal Is Still Available. Remain will win. UK gets back to doing what it was doing before 4 years of this nonsense, with reversing the effects of austerity as a priority.

SansaSnark · 03/09/2019 18:23

There's no way Corbyn would vote against having an election.

TBF I think there are some constituencies where the deselected Tory MP could stand as an independent and at the very least split the vote.

Let's not forget that last time we went into an election, the conservative party had a massive lead in the polls initially and ended up losing their majority!

I do think it's tricky, because I think there is a chance we'd end up with a Tory/Brexit coalition- which would be very dangerous. But there is also perhaps a chance of a short term remain coalition which could organise a people's vote and an extension.

Alsohuman · 03/09/2019 18:27

Theresa May and Kenneth Clarke laughed their heads off when Philip Lee crossed the floor. No way can Johnson call an election, where’s he going to get 20 odd new prospective candidates in less than six weeks.

DoomsdayCult · 03/09/2019 18:29

Well saw that coming. No, there won’t be an election. BJ needs labour to agree and they won’t agree because they know BJs next chess move would be to put the date after 31 Oct, forcing a no deal Brexit.

The next chess move is for the new majority to debate and push through an extension. Which will happen because the Government is not prepared for Brexit. Notice the Uturn on ending EU freedom of movement? Yes, that was lack of preparation, not politically driven.

It will be an extension to stabilise the pound, allow foreign firms to rescue Tata Steel and keep consumer prices & gas/oil for heat prices from not hyper-inflating in the run up to Christmas.

Then BJ may get his election.....and that will be the next circus act.

VanGoghsDog · 03/09/2019 18:59

Nat6999

😂😃

Weezol · 03/09/2019 19:19

Just seen footage on C4 news of BJ getting into his car- followed by Dominic Cummings who was sporting a ballistics vest - I know Cummings is an arrogant twat but he actually thinks he's important enough to be a target for assassination?!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/09/2019 19:23

Well I’d wear one if I was standing next to Boris. Just in case.

Alsohuman · 03/09/2019 19:24

Hope that nice little dog’s kept out of the way, with Boris in full on petulant toddler mode.
