@MarshmallowManiac - Thanks for the offer, but I do have some spare ones currently, left over from the time I could still get them easily, and they will prescribe me more if I really need some, I'm sure. The one annual one is just their default now.

@Bercows - That makes sense, I suppose. My asthma is very unstable this year, despite a couple of adjustments to my preventer, a couple or courses of oral steroids, and I use salmeterol (long acting reliever) twice a day as a matter of course. I use a spacer and clean stuff regularly. The issue with the one Ventolin a year is mostly that when the asthma is bad, I could easily get through those 200 puffs in a week or two, just doing what I've been instructed to (ten puffs at a time to try to avoid needing a nebuliser trip), and because things can get bad, I'd ideally like to have one reliever by my bed, another in my handbag, at least.

SistemaAddict · 30/08/2019 13:31

@GoneWishing yes, you should definitely have spares. I should have said that. I have a spare one in my mum's car, usually two in my bag and one in the cupboard. My GP is really good with allowing extras for the kids for school and their dad's too.

OP posts:
GoneWishing · 30/08/2019 13:40

That's good they're allowing for spares. I guess my current worry wrt Brexit is that I'll be down to my last inhaler, will really need it, get prescribed another one, and the pharmacies just won't have any.

BlackeyedGruesome · 30/08/2019 14:00

Grumbles, whines and swears.

BlackeyedGruesome · 30/08/2019 14:16

More swears at fat finger syndrome. oops

Been under the stairs. Pulled everything out. Started putting things back. Still can't find the sodding kitchen floor. DD has helped record dates.

I have finished the first stash though. Just need to up date the list.

My fire lighter arrived today. I need to get matches as well.

Flask coming later. My nearly 30 year old flask broke recently and needed replacing.

Still so much to do and not enough time to do it before the start of term.

pamperramper · 30/08/2019 14:20

Our shed is very close to the house. Wondering about keeping the metal petrol canisters in a wheely bin in the garden.

bellinisurge · 30/08/2019 14:31

I only keep petrol in the tank of the car. I live in the suburbs and don't like the idea of petrol stored anywhere else. I keep my tank at never less than half full.
I was a driver during the petrol strikes 20 years ago. 55mph on the motorway. No unnecessary journeys. It was grim.

Myriade · 30/08/2019 14:34

So Back from holidays and I need to sort out my stuff (before next week if understand well thansk to the leaflet droping from BJ abput prepping).

Ive used a lot of the stock from last time (as planned) so need to start again nearly from scratch.

One thing I didnt have last time was meat, either tinned or dried. What are your go to for that?
I am also adding some wine (for cooking of course) and some falafel mix.
I am going to assume that our local farms wont be swamped under and we can find eggs and raw milk.

SansaSnark · 30/08/2019 15:26

Personally, I'd store petrol in a shed close to the house before I stored it in a wheely bin. I'd be worried about the containers becoming corroded and causing a hazard that way.

I've worked at places where small amounts of petrol have easily been safely stored in an appropriate place. There was never any problems, but we were all very strict about fire hazards anyway due to wooden buildings and lots of hay/straw around.

30 litres is not that much though- only about half a tank. I think you have to way up if the benefits are worth the risk- I'd probably only do it if I lived somewhere pretty isolated. If you can walk to most amenities, there's no need.

BlackeyedGruesome · 30/08/2019 15:36

I may have 7 kg of dried fruit. Should keep DD moving. That is not a lot though, considering we use a lot of it every week to keep DD functioning without meds. Not boding well given that meds and food may be disrupted

12 kg of dried carbs. (Rice, pasta, couscous)

Enough dried beans to last til 2025 probably given I can't be arsed to cook them very often.

I seem to be lacking in tinned veg other than chopped tomatoes.

GrouchyKiwi · 30/08/2019 15:37

Hi. I've been reading these threads for a while and keep meaning to add stuff to my shopping orders, but all I've managed to store up so far is French butter. Grin

Hopefully having the thread in my TIO will remind me to get more things.

BlackeyedGruesome · 30/08/2019 15:39

I am stocking up on tubigrips, ankle and elbow supports to allow me to walk more than normal. Oh and pain killers. Lots of pain killers.

I wish we lived closer to a supermarket.

BlackeyedGruesome · 30/08/2019 15:40

I may buy a walker with a seat and bag. I can walk if I rest often.

SistemaAddict · 30/08/2019 15:42

I need chocolate. I'm not very well today and that equals chocolate. The

Bloody phone. The only chocolate I have is in the Christmas drawer and I'd feel very bad taking any of that.

This has amused and baffled me today. I needed a laugh so thought I'd share:

To let you know that panic buying starts next week. http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3679058-To-let-you-know-that-panic-buying-starts-next-week

People must be living in the wilds with no news at their fingertips. Although I don't know how they are on mumsnet then Confused

I am pissed off with the understairs now.

Partly because of the short story on the radio which is very Aspie and triggering my possibly Aspie annoyances.

I need to eat too. Which makes me very grumpy.

GoneWishing · 30/08/2019 16:12

I have absolutely no interest in trying to justify or persuade anyone else to my way of thinking or to start their own preparations (well done anyone who bothers). What I choose to have in my pantry isn't their business, and what they choose not to have in theirs isn't mine. I don't care if they think the anonymous person behing my MN username is batshit crazy, just as I'm sure they don't actually care what I'd think of them. So I've kind of lost the interest and entertainment factor in reading those threads by now, to be honest.

I've made space in my freezer for more berries. Frozen berries make for nice, cold smoothies, and are nice in hot porridge, too.

Me Too Bellini, my tank will be full at the end of October. Luckily, I no longer drive to work (walking distance) so I won't be subjected to enforced car sharing and long queues for petrol.

SistemaAddict · 30/08/2019 16:31

Fair enough GoneWishing it just gave me a hollow laugh. I will happily pop on and point out where some things are from but I'm definitely not bothering to convince the hardliners that a buffer is a good idea. I'm quite happy if what I'm doing is batshit as I know my family will be fed. However I do hope that the vulnerable reading those threads take something isotope from
Them and prepare even if it's just one e tea here and there. It's the vulnerable I worry about. The well off I don't give a fuck lunatic brigade can sort themselves out.

OP posts:
GoneWishing · 30/08/2019 16:38

It's the vulnerable I worry about.

Definitely. Even without shortages, there will be at the very least some price rices, which will hit hard, given how many people already struggle for basic food and heating etc. I guess all we can hope for is that we won't end up needing most of our tins, and can cheerily donate them to a foodbank.

ClaraLane · 30/08/2019 16:48

Well my stockpiling has continued today - dried fruit, marzipan (for Christmas cake), chocolate chips and sprinkles for baking with my toddler, fake Baileys (for Christmas), cheese for the freezer, more baby paracetamol and ibuprofen, honey and custard powder. Also topped up our supplies of toothbrushes and toothpaste. Hopefully when the toddler is in bed one night this week I can organise my stash properly. Just got a massive box with my Regatta order in so I’m going to decant it into there.

Still need to stock up on cat food - annoyingly Aldi don’t have the big boxes of wet food in store anymore which is a pain.

Also just remembered thanks to other posts on here that I need to get some more inhalers as my old ones have expired so I chucked them.

I’m going to go through the medicine box soon too and see what we’re short of. Not having any luck with TTC but getting on well with my CSP and mooncup so one less thing to worry about stashing.

pamperramper · 30/08/2019 18:26

My tip is: in bulk, do little freezer bags containing cut up chicken, chorizo, onion, pepper, tomato. This can then be used to make Paella, or a delicious hot sandwich or salad.

bellinisurge · 30/08/2019 18:30

Nice one @pamperramper

BlackeyedGruesome · 30/08/2019 21:41

Grr. I am trying to sort out a year's worth of hide it under the stairs quick bags.
