And alcohol @Bercows???

getupgonow · 29/08/2019 11:13

What is the oh fuck bag? Essential medications & change of clothes?

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 11:22

It is a more British name for the standard prepper "bug out bag". A grab and go bag. The people in Whaley Bridge recently needed them.

SistemaAddict · 29/08/2019 11:24

@Dontlickthetrolley Tetley tea bags and opiates Grin I'm not much of a drinker and alcohol would be heavy to carry.

My dd is getting a new rucksack for school on tbe understanding that the old one becomes her "oh fecksack " - I am very proper and don't sweater , doncha know Wink.
I actually have one on her bedroom door from when she was a little 'un but it needs updating. I found a cheap pack of cards (from a Christmas cracker) and an unused tube of lipsalve to add to it. But she can customise it. Probably with chocolate. Emergency chocolate is very important.
My own ohfucksack is currently under the bed waiting for dh to come around to the idea on his own so I don't have to pack for two. He came around to tbe idea after seeing the dam nearly go. We live near enough to there for it to update his view on it.

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 11:33

Don't sweater? 'Kin 'eck. Don't swear, I mean.

BlackeyedGruesome · 29/08/2019 11:47

We had a hospital bag as DD got carted off there several times. That needs updating. The ofrs was a term used on MN Zombi apocalypse jokey threads in chat or AIBU years back, long before Brexit.

I really need to get the bags updated. List of her conditions would be good as she has red flag collection. Hypermobility, autism, asthma, and allergies.

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 12:06

@BlackeyedGruesome your dd's situation (and yours as her Mum) is another reason why people should take steps to build some resilience into their home. So they can keep out of the fucking way with avoidable crap in a tricky situation and so emergency services can focus on people like your dd.

SistemaAddict · 29/08/2019 12:12

It's really bugging me as to where that conditioner bottle has got to. I despise things going missing/not being able to find things. Gives me the internal rage.

Just done double ordering of pasta, beans, tinned tomatoes on-line Tesco. They are currently doing 6 boxes of UHT milk for 4 quid. Also good price on 10k sacks of basmati rice.

Hoooo · 29/08/2019 13:05

.

BlackeyedGruesome · 29/08/2019 13:11

Arse. Autistic family finding it difficult to get rid of old stuff. Both DD and I are struggling. I need to make it easier to clean.

Honestly youngest is 11 I don't need toddler stuff. I would rather have tins of beans than a baby den. Still difficult though. Not even good enough for the charity shop.

getupgonow · 29/08/2019 13:39

It's hard to chuck things out @BlackeyedGruesome - I keep so much "just in case". Things like 3 stair gates, an old head board, a paddling pool full of punctures, clothes that don't fit.

I had a week off in the holidays where I took a lot of stuff to the tip (all beyond freecycle/charity shop).

It was really hard to do, but felt great afterwards.

The same with paperwork. Most stuff (except birth / marriage certificates etc) can just be scanned and shredded. But I've not managed to do that yet...

Hoooo · 29/08/2019 13:50

Gosh.
I'm the opposite! Love a good chuck out. I feel physically and mentally lighter after a good charity bag session.
Had some happy times filling up skips :)

Hoooo · 29/08/2019 13:54

(Of course we are all NT)

An ohbollocks handbag would be great. You can practice your prepper "gray man" or rather "grey woman" skills. Which means doing stuff out and about that doesn't attract attention because you look innocuous. Ninja skills!

getupgonow · 29/08/2019 14:41

I've just googled the potential contents of an oh fuck bag - i reckon it would fill my car, not just a bag!

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 14:52

@getupgonow just think about what you realistically need. If nothing else, cereal bars, water, roomy waterproof (because, UK), change of underwear and socks, torch, useful telephone numbers, pack of baby wipes and toothbrush, little first aid kit, sanpro, bag for rubbish. A map of local area and, if possible, a compass - quick Northern Hemisphere tip: all satellite dishes point south. Or, if you have a watch and it's daytime: point the hour hand at the sun, look at where the 12 is, exactly halfway between those two lines points south. Blows kids' minds when you show them.

Hi longtime lurker on thread 1.

I’ve just done a food order for my stash but am a bit worried about feeding my one year old. He’s not fussy at all but I want to make sure he gets enough fruit/veg/meat and dairy.

I’ve bought frozen meat and veg, tinned fish and fruit some dried fruit and long life full fat milk. Yoghurt and soft cheese are the things I’m not sure if there are alternatives for.

He’s getting weighed at the HV clinic next week so I’ll see how close he is to the next nappy size then.

Any suggestions on things I might find helpful?

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 15:12

If he's not fussy, I would focus on little portions of what you eat. Would making yoghurt/smoothie lollies to stick in the freezer help? Maybe have some dried fruit to whizz into them.

Not sure whether he can handle vitamin drops or gummies but they might help as a back up.
If he is in nappies would trialing some reusables (I know, I know) be possible for a backup?
When my late mum saw an NHS nutritionist, they said "don't underestimate the goodies in a bowl of cereal ". That with some Nido powdered milk (it's full fat) might be an option.

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 15:14

Oops, not gummies for little ones.
