I placed an order for my mother and sister with Tesco which will arrive tomorrow instead of today as I made a mistake with my card payment when entering the last three numbers on the back, which didn't go through but did it again which showed it was okay so I thought it was fine until this morning. Blush

I did notice that between two days multipacks of orange juice went out of stock.

Tesco have the following:

Kitkat bars of 4 = £1.
Tinned tomatoes 4 for a £1
Hearty food co Pasta is £0.29p per 500g. I was buying from Aldi for 46p!

Have you guys also thought of meal replacement shakes/bars? When I get ill I find it hard to eat properly. So I did you to keep a small batch at home which meant I didn't have to really cook anything.

Dontlickthetrolley · 02/09/2019 19:32

Protein sources: pure peanut butter (no salt, sugar, palm oil) is a fab protein source, sainsbury had some Meridian on offer last week 1/2 price.

I also got an £18 voucher off for £60 spend on delivery, which I have never done before so will be using that this week too.

yolofish · 02/09/2019 20:32

I think I'd rather die than eat peanut butter...

Weird out of stocks in Sainsburys today - no small cartons of double cream or family packs of Tropicana smooth for eg. Managed to buy most other stuff on my list though, loo roll, tissues, tinfoil, blah.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/09/2019 21:26

Aldi has 1kg tubs of Meridian for £4.99 which is a good price.

I got 2 bottles of their blag Bailey's today to put in our Christmas stock.

I've just been to Asda and wiped them out of bread flour and yeast sachets! Dr Oetker baking chocolate is on offer, at £1.00, so I've now got even more in my cupboard! 😂

If you have dairy free people, they've got Vitalite baking block (which I've never seen before) for 40p, which is a bargain. I now have a Vitalite and butter mountain in my fridge. Literally.

I'm going to stock up on seeds from Home Bargains as I need loads for the multi seed bread I've started to make.

I hate peanut butter too, @yolofish. DH and DD like it though. I've got 6kg in the cupboard! 😂

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/09/2019 22:15

Trip to town wiped me out. Got some stuff from Wilco's though. Calculators were cheap. Picked up half price crayons.

The next few days are back to school focused. Then back to stockpiling.

thenightsky · 02/09/2019 22:19

whoah fluffy . That Aldi baileys stuff is good. Off tomorrow.

thenightsky · 02/09/2019 22:20

Bread flour is like 87p in Lidl. Yeast way cheaper than Tesco.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/09/2019 22:27

White bread flour is 64p in Asda. Wholemeal 69p (1.5kg bags). Yeast is 52p for 6x7g sachets.

A litre of Absolut vodka is £18 in Asda. One fell into my trolley! 😂😂

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/09/2019 01:42

Oh dear. That was careless of it. Good job the trolley was there to catch it.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/09/2019 05:42

I know. It could've got messy were it not for the trolley.

Does anyone know when the £1 choc oranges kick in, as they definitely weren't £1 last night (I missed the Sainsbury's ones too; I'm a chocolate orange failure!).

GoneWishing · 03/09/2019 08:12

Our Aldi seems to have completely stopped doing bread mixes, which is annoying. Tesco had some last week at least, thankfully. I do have various flours from rye to wholemeal spelt to plain old normal, and yeast, but I'm a little bit in love with the easy bread mixes.

Re. vegan proteins, I've mainly gone for tins of beans, dry lentils, some frozen quorn mince and "chicken", and frozen veg/bean burgers. I found myself wondering if I could freeze tofu, but remembered I don't like it at the best of times! I'll get some nutty cereal bars, though, I think.

My job of today is to go through all my spices and various other bits in my spice cupboard. I know I have plenty of salt, pepper and mixed herbs, but not sure about all the rest of it. I'll pop out to Tesco to get anything that's needed afterwards.

I don't really like doing shopping trips that look like I might be stockpiling. I had some snide comments pre-March from check out staff, when I happened to have some UHT and tins in my trolley (nothing crazy - I need to carry anything I buy all the way home uphill myself!), and in a tiny Leaver town it's made me wary.

Gatepost1820 · 03/09/2019 08:24

@mamapants my late dad used to make a fabulous curry with tinned artichokes. Very yummy and simple curry base made with onions, ginger, garlic, salt, chillis, curry powder & pinch of turmeric. No tomatoes and no coconut milk I seem to remember.

Gatepost1820 · 03/09/2019 08:56

Have received my online Morrison's delivery this morning & forgotten the milk & onions. Will nip out later to buy & get a few bags of onions to make a big pot of curry sauce with. I'll then cool and freeze in bags enough to feed 4 people library style. This is cheaper than buying curry pastes & more healthier too.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/09/2019 09:00

Spices? Do you think a kg bag of cumin will be enough? Grin

mamapants · 03/09/2019 09:29

Thanks for the veggie tips, very much appreciated.
I'm not going to batch cook for freezer just try to squash as much meat, veg, butter and cheese in there as I can.
Not sure about using space on bread and milk. Can make bread in breadmaker but the children don't like it as much but takes up so much space in freezer. Same with milk can buy UHT or powdered to save space in freezer but don't know if the kids will use it.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/09/2019 11:49

I have decided not to put bread in the freezer but to use alternative carbs. Rice pasta, wraps, homemade bread, crackers, part baked bread, potatoes etc.

I tend to leave the bread in the freezer just in case and then it tastes of plastic.

If I buy frozen peas and sweetcorn I have a backup of of tins so more likely to use them.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/09/2019 11:50

Also it is so hard to guess what shops will have in or not. Then thrown in people's behaviour.

SistemaAddict · 03/09/2019 13:34

Tesco has plenty of bread mixes at Handforth Dean. I can't buy the chocolate oranges yet as got the dc at home. Might ask
Mum to pick some up. I've treated us to some cherry liqueurs and peppermint creams and sticks from M&S today. The Christmas biscuits weren't on offer so I'll hold off on those for now. I've now 6 jars of my favourite passata, tomatoes purées, cotton wool pads (last two in Tesco today and they had shortages earlier in the summer too), wipes, Demerara sugar, light muscavado sugar, dried cranberries (2 packs of whitworths baking range for £2.50 instead of £4 in Tesco), UHT milk, chilli purée, and packet custard that you make up with water. SANpro and toothpaste too.

Has anyone else had problems with a visa electron card being declined by tesco groceries despite having money available. They texted saying they had not able to take money so I had to call and change the card to a mastercard one. I googled and apparently this has happened to others too. Hmm

My own separate weekly shopping for this week is £21.87.

@BlackeyedGruesome I think maybe 10kg just to be safe!!! Wink
@NoWordForFluffy I love chocolate oranges, I had a quick look they have the Terry's Chocolate Orange Minis for £1 at Asda, if that could be a slight alternative.
@GoneWishing I tried to go to self service when I could, but I understand not wanting everyone else to comment and see.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/09/2019 14:09

I got 4 dark chocolate oranges reduced to £1 each with good dates from Wilko at lunchtime so I'm sorted!

I go self serve too where I can.

noodlenosefraggle · 03/09/2019 16:31

What about getting a soda bread recipe? How easy is it to make a sourdough starter? Then the bread mix or yeast won't be needed.

GoneWishing · 03/09/2019 18:11

@noodlenosefraggle I'm not a big fan of soda bread (don't tell the Irish DH), and I'm scared of sourgdough! I should really get into it, though, shouldn't I? I think the "artisanal" reputation has put me off, so I probably imagine it to be harder than it really is. But I'm just fine doing ordinary yeast doughs myself if I run out of bread mixes.

@BlackeyedGruesome - Blimey! That's a lot of cumin! I've just gone with the little refill boxes... (although yes, had to get more cumin).

ithinkmycatistryingtokillme · 03/09/2019 18:36

Finally got some spare money so intending to do a cupboard/freezer shop. Had a good stock in march but lack of funds over summer meant we have eaten a lot of it

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/09/2019 19:37

The cumin was on offer in Asda, sometime around Ramadan I think when there were lots of offers on.

A mixed area= wider variety in the supermarket as an added bonus.

Dontlickthetrolley · 03/09/2019 20:24

I was in Morrisons earlier and definitely big gaps in the pasta aisle and also where the 10kg bags of rice are usually placed.
