As it says in the title really - do you think we will definitely leave the EU on that date or do you think we'll still be "in" on November 1st?

Also, do you think we will leave with a deal or without a deal - and will Boris still be PM by then?

I'm just wondering how people will think the next three months are going to pan out, basically.

It’s a Hypothetical Brexit for you Janista. If it all goes horribly wrong you’re not strapped to the train tracks not knowing if the train bearing down on you whereas some of us have to live with the fear Medicine shortages might become a reality that for our family members will result in death. It really is very different for you on so many levels.

Parliament will stop it, either by a vote of no confidence, culminating in a General Election or by some other means like stopping a no deal exit.

This is what I think

Mistigri · 08/08/2019 22:38

vote in uk elections

Illegally, if you have been in Australia over 15 years.

What is it about leavers and election fraud?

MyOtherProfile · 08/08/2019 23:08

@Mistigri wow good point well made.

Janista · 09/08/2019 03:52

I resent that, I've voted legally and have not been outside uk for over 15 years.

Do UK parliament internal votes affect the EU? On 31 Oct 2019 the following actions are available;

Agree a WA

Without changes to the existing WA can't see this happening

Agree a further extension to leave date

Again without changes to existing WA what would this achieve?

UK Revokes Article 50

Conservatives unlikely to do this as it will cost them their jobs at next election.

According to the man on R4 this morning we will leave on 31 Oct with a GE booked for 1 Nov which means we will be in purdah and the press won't be able to criticise what is going on in any way. Nice one Johnson, you bastard.

MyOtherProfile · 09/08/2019 07:24

How long have you lived in Australia @Janista ?

Janista · 09/08/2019 07:24

🥂 🇬🇧

bellinisurge · 09/08/2019 07:29

@Janista loves the UK so much and is so optimistic about it that she lives on the other side of the planet.
Come home @Janista , we miss you.

whyamidoingthis · 09/08/2019 08:24

Do UK parliament internal votes affect the EU?

No, they don't. The only thing that the UK can do unilaterally is revoke A50.

Agree a further extension to leave date

This also needs EU agreement, something that is very unlikely unless there is a GE or a new referendum.

Under the Fixed Term Parliament Act Johnson first has to lose a Confidence vote and then there are two weeks for them to try to form an alternative Government. Now with a sensible Opposition that would be the time to seize the moment, but I can't see enough of the HoC getting behind Corbyn. For the Brexiters he's the gift which keeps on giving.

MyOtherProfile · 09/08/2019 09:45

Can he not just set a GE date himself? I know there's the fixed term thing but are there no loopholes?

noodlenosefraggle · 09/08/2019 11:17

I can't believe that people who left the UK up to 15 years ago are able to vote! There should be a 5 year limit IMO. The maximum Parliamentary term.

probstimeforanewname · 09/08/2019 11:37

For the referendum it certainly should have excluded anyone living outside the EU if they'd been away longer than 5 years. For those living in Eu countries they should have got a vote even if they'd been there 40 years as it affected them directly.

As for whether we'll leave on 31st Oct - I saw in the Times that David Mundell has said that he will roll over and not block a no deal exit. I do wonder if some of the more prominent remain MPs are receiving death threats.

Theworldisfullofgs · 09/08/2019 12:59

I think it was ridiculous that commonwealth citizens got a vote and non british EU citizens didnt.

StealthPolarBear · 09/08/2019 16:53

So civil servants have had a letter saying we will be leaving on this date, whatever the circumstances.
It's the only way to end the division and uncertainty (I beg to differ)

Most countries allow votes for life for expats and some have the equivalent of an "MP for overseas citizens".

Some Britons will end up with no vote in any election anywhere after Brexit.

Bourbonbiccy · 09/08/2019 17:07

I think we will leave on October 31st come hell or high water to our detriment.

IslandTulip · 09/08/2019 18:05

Unfortunately I think this person is correct about BJ so I think we will leave.

I just scroll past Janista's posts as I'm not interested in anything he has to say.

I left UK many years ago, but pay UK Tax on income arising in the UK. As a UK Taxpayer surely I am allowed to vote?

Tengel · 10/08/2019 06:29

We will definitely be leaving on Oct 31 and I am over the moon about it. It's been way too long coming.

MyOtherProfile · 10/08/2019 07:39

@Tengel. That's nice for you. Unfortunately so many experts disagree with your optimism but hey, you keep that little head of yours in the clouds.

Interesting waking up to Brian Cox on twitter about the scientists post Brexit. But yeah sure, they'll all come flocking and what does he know?

As Five said, we are all tired of experts. What do they know with their poxy focus on research and facts eh?

MyOtherProfile · 10/08/2019 07:40

@NosyBe2006 presumably you also pay tax where you live now. So are you suggesting you should be able to vote in two countries?

Tengel · 10/08/2019 08:21

Brian Cox is a remainer and part of the liberal elite. His views are worth no more than yours or mine.
