Hell is ever closer-how's your stash looking?

SistemaAddict · 23/07/2019 18:47

My brexit cupboard shelves have been depleted due to using up the things that were going out of date like long life milk and juice. We also seem to have raided the baked beans Blush
After today's announcement of buffoon johnson (isn't Johnson an American term for penis?) being our new PM and his threat of brexit on Halloween come hell or high water I figured I should assess my supplies. I still have my original lists somewhere so need to check everything.
Anyone else extra worried now and assessing their supplies?

I've got to find all our bits and bobs and check it against the spreadsheet. Dh helpfully hid it all when we had building work being done. He's not quite sure where it's all buried.

BlackeyedGruesome · 04/08/2019 21:36

Pulled it all out, hoovered, wiped, on the search for little bugs.

Just taking a break while the fecking lights turn on.

The stash needs to go back now, listed, dated. It will all have to be pulled out again in September after the holidays to find the little bugs that are eating my cloth. Grr.

Things on my shopping list:
Cellotape.
Kitchen light bulbs
Another power bank.
Plumbers pipe mending tape someone mentioned.
Printer paper.
Alarm clock. (Asda cheap one)
Use up and rebuy bread flour.
Christmas presents.
Many many chopped tomatoes.
I use lots more than tins of beans.must find, and count it all.

Tomorrow I start the holiday packing.

BlackeyedGruesome · 04/08/2019 21:37

Good news is the tinned dried milk is well in date.

AutumnCrow · 04/08/2019 22:18

We went to Asda on Friday morning and bought some cracking camping bargains. Camping stove £3! Pack of four gas canisters £1.50. (I bought 3 packs.) Camping kettle £1.25. They were flying off the shelves so we were lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

DS says I'm going to blow up the house.

BlackeyedGruesome · 04/08/2019 22:52

Store the gas outside in the shed.

BlackeyedGruesome · 04/08/2019 22:54

I am trying to record the dates on tins and put them back but the space is occupied at present as it is apparently a good place to chill.

prettybird · 04/08/2019 23:24

I currently have £8 off if I spend £40 vouchers for Sainsbury's (3, one per week starting last week, this week and next week). Smile

Running short of Darjeeling (one brand) and Earl Grey (Twinings) loose tea so can stick up on them. More loo roll (prefer Sainsbury's to Tesco or Lidl) and kitchen paper, plus some Issigny unpasteurised salted butter (can freeze some) which we like for toast/bread (dh and ds) or to eat in slices (me: following the MN HFLC Way of Eating Wink), plus some Boursin and I'll soon be up at £40 Grin

Mackies Honeycomb chocolate, which Sainsbury's stocks, is also to die for (not that I'm supposed to have any Blush - but dh loves it and never, ever shares any with me, oh no, not ever Wink)

BlackeyedGruesome · 05/08/2019 01:27

Finally got stash back into place and dated.

Got a mixture of pastas, rice, dried and tinned beans, lentils, tinned soups, rice pudding, pilchards, tinned veg and fruit, olives, herbs, coffee and milk powder.

Definitely a mixed stash which can be used to build some meals.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/08/2019 06:29

You did better than I did with Sainsbury's vouchers, prettybird. I had four weeks of £7.50 off £50.00 and now have four weeks of £5.00 off £50.00. Still better than nothing though!

prettybird · 05/08/2019 11:04

Actually, I've just re-checked: I have 4 weeks worth of vouchers. 1st 2 weeks are £8 off if I spend £40 and Weeks 3 and 4 are just Wink £6 off if I spend £40.

But being in Scotland, all alcohol is excluded so I can't buy a bottle of wine to make up any shortfall which is what I used to do Wine

@TheFlis12345 Ratatouille is either La Doria brand (68p/can in Waitrose) or D'aucy (90p in Morrisons, but our pound shop often has it 2/£1). Years of cheap camping holidays in France where that plus a baguette made a fine dinner!

This week restocked multivitamins as the toddler is fussy, made a small batch of jam, added some bottled lemon juice. Trying out Who Gives a Crap, because if we get on with it that'd be an easy way to restock loo rolls without having to lug them home from the shop!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/08/2019 13:13

test.

TheFlis12345 · 05/08/2019 13:39

Thanks @MotherWol I shall stock up!

BlackeyedGruesome · 05/08/2019 15:35

Test? England and Wales should have stayed in... They failed. They are out...

But at least now I can hoover and not miss a vital ball.

Then restock the stash.

Annoyingly I forgot to record how many tins of carrots or the date of the chopped tomatoes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/08/2019 16:15

Grin it was the nearest convenient post to check that MN wasn't actually fully dead.

I've done a a bit of a recon, and found where dh hid stuff from the builders. Until they've finished though I can't actually do a full check. But we look ok still. We need more juice and paracetamol.

Thanks for the reminder about printer paper. Ink too.

BlackeyedGruesome · 05/08/2019 16:25

I actually had to do housework this morning.

AutumnCrow · 05/08/2019 16:55

@BlackeyedGruesome are you still hoovering up bugs?

Printer ink's a good shout. It's expensive enough already ...

SistemaAddict · 05/08/2019 17:14

Waitrose emailed me a £15 voucher as I couldn't find my others Smile I've ordered a fair amount of butter, cranberry sauce, shloer drinks for Christmas, laundry stuff, pasta, rice, flours. My mum has got into this prepping lark now too: one on the go and one in the cupboard Smile

Can anyone tell me about reusable sanpro? I'm willing to give it a go but how does it stay in place and how do you launder them?

OP posts:
BlackeyedGruesome · 05/08/2019 17:27

They stay in place with wings fastened with poppers.

I am working out how many layers of cloth needed and the plastic backing and which fabric is most absorbant.

It was investigating that when I found the bugs.

The trouble is, I sleep in the living room as there are not enough bedrooms and I have laundry drying in here and a fabric stash that needed washing and bedding and the sewing heap. There was also the food stash and toys and my clothes are in here.... In other words, lots of aces for little critters to hide...

Throw in hypermobility exhaustion and looking after two children with disabilities... Things take a long time to organise.

CrunchyCarrot · 05/08/2019 18:49

Been cooking my redcurrants now they're all picked, just filtering them through muslin now in preparation for making them into jelly.

Realised I need more malt vinegar, too (not for the redcurrants, obv.)!

Planning on getting all my stash off the shelves and documenting exactly what I have with use-bys, and put it back in a more orderly fashion!

Hoooo · 05/08/2019 20:26

I use reusable sanpro. Got mine from amazon. They are pretty good. Perhaps not for the sqeamish?

Also switched to beeswax wraps last year and bar soap and bamboo toothbrushes.

T K Maxx is good for really nice soaps. I like neste danti.

Amazon pantry can be good if you're ordering a lot of stuff.

Hoooo · 05/08/2019 20:28

Printer ink! Good shout!
I'll get dh to get some reams of paper from work too.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/08/2019 22:16

Don't forget the Amazon Pantry £10 off £30 discount which might be account-specific, but is worth a look.

I wasn't a member on Prime Day. Bugger!

Definitely worth a shout if it's for anyone!
