What are the real tangible benefits of the UK leaving the EU ?

I assume there must be at least a couple, things that can be said with certainty, that will improve the lives of UK citizens. I am not talking about the 'feelings' stuff like sovereignty, I mean if the UK leaves the EU , X will happen and this will automatically improve the lives of the majority of the people in the UK. There has to be at least one ?

Coppersulphate , if I had to choose between Corbyn and a No Deal Brexit .... I'd probably choose the latter because I am a prepper with a right to an Irish passport so I could probably manage.
Like choosing between poking your eyes out or chopping your arm off.

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 07/07/2019 19:32

I would choose Corbyn. Much as I despise him, I don't think he would cause as much irreparable damage to the country as Brexit most definitely will.

Bearbehind · 07/07/2019 19:35

Agreed doris

Corbyn is an epic twat but no way near as damaging as Brexit.

Bunnyfuller · 07/07/2019 19:36

Ffs we’re going to trash our nation because fucking lightbulbs and hoover power.

STOP READING TABLOIDS.

bellinisurge · 07/07/2019 19:45

Corbyn is a Lexiteer. So if you got Corbyn you'd get Brexit anyway.

ContinuityError · 07/07/2019 20:21

I have never, as far as I am aware, been affected by a ruling of the ECJ.

You have. By quite a few judgments. And assuming that you’re female some will specifically have been to your benefit.

Or if you’ve had your employment rights protected by TUPE.

In addition to the 45% or so of the cases brought against the UK over the last 10 years that have been environmental, such as failure to deal adequately with urban waste waters (ie allowing untreated sewage to enter watercourses).

Oh, and the ECJ ruled that the UK privatised water companies couldn’t hide their untreated sewage discharges either.

Copper my love , can you actually answer my original question ?

if the UK leaves the EU , X will happen and this will automatically improve the lives of the majority of the people in the UK

Is there one thing that you can categorically state will happen that will improve the lives of 60 odd million people, as a result of the UK leaving the EU ? Not what you would like to happen, not how you think you will feel if or when we eventually leave, just a simple x will happen and this will absolutely and definitely improve the lives of the majority of people in the UK ? There must be one that fits that criteria surely ?

Well it seems that according to many on this thread there are no tangible benefits so let's look at it another way.
Given that the government (and not only) expect a no deal Brexit to lead to disruption in medicines and medical treatments as well as other supply chain problems, how many deaths are you prepared to accept? And does it matter to you?

bellinisurge · 07/07/2019 21:31

What I can't wait for post Brexit is the abolition of the House of Lords and the monarchy. Cos we hate unelected power.

Coppersulphate · 07/07/2019 21:58

Continuity ....
No I haven't.
You may well have been but I haven't.

Coppersulphate · 07/07/2019 22:04

Frumety, don't be so condescending as to call me"love".

I am most definitely not your love.

Everybody's life will be improved by leaving the EU.

Their taxes will not be wasted moving EU institutions between cities, paying inflated salaries to commissioners or the EU President, supporting numerous overpaid EU officials who then tell us what to do.

And, by the way, I have a lot of family and friends who are foreigners. It is not foreigners I dislike. It is the EU.

Coppersulphate · 07/07/2019 22:05

Bellini, I agree with you about the HoL and monarchy. So at least we can agree on one thing.

timeforakinderworld · 07/07/2019 22:07

Everybody's life will be improved by leaving the EU.
Including those who rely on EU- sourced medicines? And those who have lost their jobs? What about those who have been told they have to leave or they can't stay in the same country as their children?

Jason118 · 07/07/2019 22:10

I think @Coppersulphate is just winding us up now, very funny stuff especially how everyone will benefit from leaving. Made me laugh anyway GrinGrinGrin

ContinuityError · 07/07/2019 22:10

Coppersulphate

Really? You’ve never benefitted from maternity rights or equal pay?

Bearbehind · 07/07/2019 22:11

Everybody's life will be improved by leaving the EU.

Yet the best you can come up with is

Their taxes will not be wasted moving EU institutions between cities, paying inflated salaries to commissioners or the EU President, supporting numerous overpaid EU officials who then tell us what to do.

Which will disappear in the increased cost of their first grocery shop.

Fucking idiocy.

ContinuityError · 07/07/2019 22:24

Coppersulphate I can guarantee that you have benefitted from the environmental cases, you just don’t know it.

Coppersulphate , if I had to choose between Corbyn and a No Deal Brexit .... I'd probably choose the latter

Depends on whether it’s a Corbyn Government with a working majority, or a minority one dependent on confidence and supply arrangement with other parties. The latter being both far more likely and preferable.

Corbyn is the Brexiteers secret weapon....virtually any other Labour PM and Remainer Tories would
be willing to vote down the Government by the dozen!

Oakenbeach · 07/07/2019 22:54

The latter being both far more likely and preferable.

As in whether we get a GE before Brexit... afterwards, all bets are off.

LifeContinues · 08/07/2019 03:01

There must be one that fits that criteria surely

There is one word to describe the benefit

INTANGIBLES

LifeContinues · 08/07/2019 03:05

how many deaths are you prepared to accept? And does it matter to you

For some freedom has no price. Suicide bombers blow themselves, and others, up in their search for freedom.

bellinisurge · 08/07/2019 05:34

What a ridiculous thing to say

timeforakinderworld · 08/07/2019 07:16

For some freedom has no price.
And for you? Considering you personally won't be affected, how many deaths are you prepared to accept?

frumpety · 08/07/2019 07:21

Copper sorry if 'my love' came across as condescending, that wasn't my intention Blush

Lifecontinues the intangible benefits only benefit those who believe in them, surely ?
