Westminstenders: Brace Yourself It's Gonna BeBoris

It seems inconceivable that Hunt can beat Johnson. And whilst we are all considering the horrors that Prime Johnson can bring...

Let's not forget Brexit, whats Brexit?

Already there is talk that Boris has gone soft on 31st Oct as an absolute. But he's also promised the earth to the ERG.

So what suits Boris best?

What does his ego demand?

What does Boris want his legacy to be?

Our fate rests on Boris's whims and personal desires.

And if you are Scottish, Muslim or otherwise not rich, white and male you might have reason to be concerned.

So Tory / DUP majority now down to 2, excluding what (if anything) happens to Mark Field.

Icantreachthepretzels · 21/06/2019 13:16

For goodness sake I didn't "hope" details would emerge. I expected they would

But as that expectation has been thwarted - surely you can see it was, in reality, nothing but a forlorn hope?

You assumed. You expected. You didn't know. Expectation and knowledge are not the same thing.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 13:18

Louise I'm no fan of Corbyn, but he is the leader of the Opposition, not responsible in any way for helping the govt get its policies through

He is a lifelong Lexiter, so genuinely wants Brexit
It's a perfectly reasonable position for Labour and any of the opposition parties to say they would not support a Brexit that would hammer our trade

The govt, with the DUP c&s, have a majority to govern

If they don't in fact have a majority for Brexit, then their correct course of action is
either to agree a new PD with the Opposition,

or to call a GE

  • Corbyn is always eager for this, so he's not preventing this course at all
averylongtimeago · 21/06/2019 13:21

Thanks for the threads.
I have stopped listening to the news as it's too depressing.

a Withdrawal Agreement has been prepared.

and rejected. So what are the details now? Now what did you vote for? I mean really - please articulate exactly what your vision of leave is and how it is workable and how it works for all four sections of the UK without crossing any EU red lines.

This for BJ

(Iliad 9.312f.)

Hateful to me as the gates of Hades is that man who hides one thing in his heart and speaks another

(Disclaimer: I know no Greek but I can Google)

LonelyTiredandLow · 21/06/2019 13:34

Leavers still clearly not admitting they voted for risk.
You didn't know, you had no clear plan, there was a risk of No Deal. Now half of you actively want that (even though they don't like what they have been told it means and thus ignore it as Project Fear) and the other half don't. You can't look at the Leave side and say you are all on the same page. That No Deal wasn't a risk you were willing to take when you voted. You wanted to go against the status quo and are only now worrying about the lack of a plan. Why aren't you just a little bit cross? At Farage/Boris/Gove? Why aren't you shouting "this isn't what we wanted"? Pride is a terrible thing, especially when people can't admit they even might have been hoodwinked.

LonelyTiredandLow · 21/06/2019 13:41

I suppose the great leveller is now that Leavers are starting to understand why remainers have been asking about a plan and perhaps starting to realise why we have been so worried for 3 years Hmm

LouiseCollins28 · 21/06/2019 13:44

Fine, I feel everything you say I'm supposed to be feeling, shame, duped, let down, didn't know what the hell I was doing. Believe whatever you like about me and my politics.

I have tried over a long time to engage constructively with people on these threads, I'm clearly hugely in the minority on here but nonetheless I have tried to articulate my point of view with care. I think I'm going back to just "lurking" now, the level of disconnect and hostility on here is just absurd. Enjoy the chamber everyone.

bellinisurge · 21/06/2019 13:55

@LouiseCollins28 given that there are very few places where you can openly say you think this is a stupid shit show and that you voted Remain, I'm sure you will be able to express your views quite happily everywhere else. Until it all turns to shit and then you can pretend you didn't vote Leave.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2019 13:56

The AIBU thread about Mark Field is somewhat depressing, with people seeking to blame Khan, saying that we are being racist for calling this out as assault (I think that's what they were saying, I couldn't quite follow their thought process) plus the usual victim blaming and decrying her as a potential terrorist etc etc.

Peregrina · 21/06/2019 13:57

No Louise don't duck out like that. What did you want? Did you want more money for the NHS? A perfectly legitimate desire as far as I am concerned.
Did you want to see immigration controlled, especially that from E Europe? Blair botched that, so I don't know whether that genie could be put back in the bottle, but there may be solutions if the will was there.
Were you like Daniel Hannan - no one's talking about leaving the Single Market?
Were you like Farage - Norway's doing OK for itself?

I don't think in any of your posts I have seen you say, "this is what I want to see". It would be good if you and other Leavers did - they could then start telling their MPs what they should be negotiating for.

bellinisurge · 21/06/2019 13:58

@OhYouBadBadKitten I'm on that thread and I don't see anyone saying it is racist to defend his or her actions.

HesterThrale · 21/06/2019 14:03

I remember now why Mark Field’s name is familiar. He’s the MP with the highest proportion of constituents signing the Revoke petition (40.8%). And who said he’d vote for Revoke.
The petition is still going by the way. (6,088,434)

Basilpots · 21/06/2019 14:05

Louise & How and any other friendly leavers out there I’m probably on my own in saying this but I value your input and am sorry you Louise feel like this as you have always answered anything I have asked both articulately and politely so I for one will miss you.

And How you always give me lots of interesting stuff to read I wouldn’t usually come across so thank you for that I do appreciate it. Again you always answer questions I have really well and give me a different viewpoint to consider. (hope the migraine gets better)

Violetparis · 21/06/2019 14:09

I agree Basilpots

DGRossetti · 21/06/2019 14:14

Funny how little things go unnoticed - well barely noticed (it was briefly alluded to on a Westminstenders thread recently)

When Boris was flying kites to see which way the wind was blowing, he came up with a delay into 2021 ... that's disappeared without trace now, but it was noted at the time, that it would effectively make the time between the referendum vote and enactment greater than the life of a General Election ...

One reason for Brexiteers to be nervous about Boris is he may well effectively neuter the whole referendum with a stunt like that.

There is also the as yet hypothetical, but certainly debatable-if-it-happens possibility of a premature GE resulting once again in a hung parliament. Which would certainly make it a fair point of view that despite the referendum, the electorates failure to endorse Brexit twice means it's a dead duck.

The petition recalling Chris Davies doesn't bode well for Brexiteers - it exceeds his majority comfortably. It will remain to be seen whether that was made up of Remainers, BXPers, and a smattering of disgusted Tories - and in what proportion.

Interesting it's Jeremy Hunt that gets the soft soapbox to defend Mr. Davies. Not quite sure what that augers ...

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 21/06/2019 14:14

I The AIBU thread about Mark Field is somewhat depressing^

I’ve not seen that. Alarmingly one of my Facebook friends posted
^I might open a can of worms here, but if you barge uninvited into a private event full of potential political targets, then you should expect to be ejected.
However, why wasnt there security? This could easily have been a group of people with more on their minds than words!
He has reacted to a situation and they would have been hailing him a hero had violence been on their agenda^

Alarming this person is a police officer and is normally a lovely person (she came round to my point of view thankfully).

DGRossetti · 21/06/2019 14:16

I don't think in any of your posts I have seen you say, "this is what I want to see".

I want to be out of the EU !

God, us remainers are so thick.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 21/06/2019 14:17

I’m very much hoping louise and how keep posting here. It’s very Remainy here and I for one appreciate hearing a Leaver perspective even if I don’t agree with it or understand it.

carlynation · 21/06/2019 14:23

I think I'm going back to just "lurking" now, the level of disconnect and hostility on here is just absurd. Enjoy the chamber everyone.
Very wise Louise. The Mumsnet Brexit boards are a strange old place - the most prolific posters seem to be males who don't live in the UK. I just lurk occasionally to see what the current Remainer groupthink is.

BestIsWest · 21/06/2019 14:25

Pmk

JustAnotherPoster00 · 21/06/2019 14:25

I'm on that thread and I don't see anyone saying it is racist to defend his or her actions.

Plenty on there willing to excuse his behaviour though isnt that right bellinisurge Hmm
