Tom Newton Dunnn@tnewtondunn*

David Lidingon emerges from voting to say “I’ve made it clear to both of them I’m not declaring where my vote goes”.
< but still didn't scribble a penis ? >

So not Boris then.
Also adds this somewhat apocalyptic warning:

“The union of the United Kingdom is under the greatest strain I’ve known in my lifetime”.

< no kidding. Which party caused all this shit then ? >

howabout · 20/06/2019 17:12

RTB both my DH and I are similarly anarchic - fun times Grin
and you've seen my capacity to start a rammy.

bellinisurge · 20/06/2019 17:13

@Iambuffy , there's a strong possibility "they" ( being a Johnson government) won't be allowed by Parliament to do anything stupid. That would be our sovereign parliament voted for in a democratic election in 2017 By The People.

Songsofexperience · 20/06/2019 17:14

I have said this before: NO DEAL is by definition anti British.
Truly boggles the mind.
It's spitting on centuries of history. I hope the fuckwits who let that happen get their just deserts down the line.
If any no deal supporter blathers on about national pride in my presence I shall heap contempt upon them. Idiots.

BigChocFrenzy · 20/06/2019 17:20

Lewis Goodall@lewisgoodall

The government has a working majority of five.
< so long as they keep (buying) the support of 10 DUP MPs >

Two Conservative MPs have essentially said they can’t support any of the candidates for leader.

That’s a big problem.
....
In this spirit keep a very close eye on what’s going on in Brecon and Radnorshire.

The Conservatives’ grip on power is hanging by a thread.

< oh no, not another by-election >

Recall petition in Wales over Tory MP Chris Davies draws to close

All depends if 10% of voters cab that their MP has been convicted of submitting of fake expenses invoices

Early test for new Conservative leader if Brecon seat contested after false expenses claims

songsofpraise No Deal Brexit is in the British tradition of Suez,
when we got slapped down good and hard by a real superpower

Now we'll get slapped down by the top 50 or so

Apileofballyhoo · 20/06/2019 17:23

My DH is another who thinks no deal - give 'em what they want.

I wonder could somebody start a political party for some other single issue. For example, The Save the NHS Party. Policies would be stop Brexit (it's costing too much money), improve air and food quality (to save the NHS money) improve education (better education leads to better health and saves the NHS money), improve housing (leads to better physical and mental health and saves the NHS money). Etc. Saving the NHS money leads to lower taxes for everyone.

It's far more practical than UKIP was as we've seen and it's something people could get behind.

Songsofexperience · 20/06/2019 17:27

BCF
Yes I know.

And as much as I do sometimes attend church at Easter and Xmas, I'm not necessarily enough of a Songs of Praise fan to make it my username 😁

BigChocFrenzy · 20/06/2019 17:27

Beth Rigby@BethRigby

Two votes between Gove and Hunt.

Frantic chasing of those 34 Javid votes.

Hearing that Javid supporters splitting between the three camps, but most going to Johnson/Gove, less to Hunt.
Too close to predict.....

< oh, I hope Hunt is dropped next. Unscrupulous opportunist who'll even suck up to the worst racists.
BJ vs Gove might give us (Tory political) blood on the floor
Or Gove might just roll over >

DGRossetti · 20/06/2019 17:27

No Deal Brexit is in the British tradition of Suez,

Or the Charge of the Light Brigade. Remember - even before they rode into the valley of death, the soldiers knew it was a doomed operation. But then remember also the English like to execute an admiral from time to time pour encourager les autres as Voltaire wrote.

It's times like this you realise how well our neighbours had us sussed ...

BigChocFrenzy · 20/06/2019 17:29

songsofexperience Blush Sorry, another poster Blush

BigChocFrenzy · 20/06/2019 17:30

Perfidious Albion is most apt

Songsofexperience · 20/06/2019 17:32

No worries bcf, I actually thought it was hilarious!

jasjas1973 · 20/06/2019 17:32

No Deal is nothing like Suez, an Anglo French military adventure, that did no lasting damage to the UK.

We ve faced disaster and crisis before BUT we've never before chosen it.

Its beyond belief.

bellinisurge · 20/06/2019 17:34

I disagree that Suez did no lasting damage @jasjas1973 . Other countries started to think that maybe we aren't so fecking brilliant after all. From that point.

Peregrina · 20/06/2019 17:34

We did have a candidate for a Save the NHS party standing in the Local elections 4 years ago. She didn't get very far though. I know we had a number to vote for so she got one of my votes.

DGRossetti · 20/06/2019 17:35

Songs of Experience (and Innocence) comes from Blake ?

Tiger Tiger etc ?

I got told off for telling the class he liked to hang around "tackle out" and being a bit of a swinger Grin. (One of many reasons why I have a deep seated antipathy to "education" ...)

I know Stewart Lee is a bit Marmite, but fair play he helped with a memorial to one of Englands more interesting poets ...

Ellie56 · 20/06/2019 17:37

Should Boris and 'pulling things off' be in the same sentence?

Ew! Let's not go there! Bleugh!

DGRossetti · 20/06/2019 17:43

Suez was an existential moment for Britain. And not in a good way.

We'll never know, but I wonder how many Leavers went into the ballot box thinking they were somehow avenging Britains humiliation ?

Suez was where the UK was told very clearly - in words of very few syllables - that the US was top dog, and never to forget it

(It's also when the US had a bitchslap from Nasser who made it clear that he had no problems with a USSR that had never done him no harm, as opposed to an Anglo-US alliance which had pissed all over Egypt for too long ...)

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 20/06/2019 17:45

My dh is convinced it will all be fine in the end. He’s not stipulated when “the end” is. Confused

He’s supremely relaxed about the whole thing, thinks I’m bonkers for worrying. He’s the reason (and people like him) we have such shit politicians.

tobee · 20/06/2019 17:46

From what I read about Boris being incredibly lazy and getting others to do the work for him, I get the feeling that Boris doesn't do his own "pulling off". In any area.

DGRossetti · 20/06/2019 17:48

You know, I hadn't really thought it was possible to make the Boris/pulling-off picture any worse in my head. Until now.

Congratulations @tobee Grin

Songsofexperience · 20/06/2019 17:52

@DGRossetti
Yes it does Smile
I wonder what he would have made of our times. He could be unforgivingly dark.

Iambuffy · 20/06/2019 17:55

Ew.

Imagine being boris's fluffer??

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
