Jessica Elgot @jessicaelgot
Last thought on Peterborough - Labour have worked this seat for far longer than you’d think, getting voter info since Jan, they have experienced ground ops and they should know where their voters were to get them out. Brexit party won’t have this. That could make the difference.

As pp have said, the seeming overwhelming Boris love will be down to name/face recognition.

Not all people are freaky like us and think about Brexit multiple times a day! GrinI read this thread fairly closely most days but I have just thumbnail sketches of some of the leadership candidates. Not all of them.

It's cult of the flamin' personality, innit?

Anyone want some light entertainment?

Mr Details has another nickname: 'Psycho Dom'.

With every new appearance, Dominic Raab increasingly resembles a man who views Hannibal Lecter movies as self-help documentaries. The anger is so barely repressed you expect his hand to explode through the screen and slit your throat. All done with the perfect rictus smile. It’s what you would have wanted.

oooo the live odds are moving on William Hill....

... to the Brexshit Party.

Sophy Ridge @SophyRidgeSky
Nigel Farage is, I’m told, currently in a nearby pub - waiting the #Peterborough result. Hearing it will be a battle between the Labour vote in inner city areas & Brexit Party elsewhere - lots of rumours flying around about who is nosing in front

OP posts:
tobee · 06/06/2019 23:41

Ah bollocks!

re William Hill odds

HagridsBigToe · 06/06/2019 23:41

@SophyRidgeSky
Turnout in Peterborough- 48.4%

Pretty low, which won't help.

tobee · 06/06/2019 23:42

It's one of those days where everything goes wrong.

RedToothBrush · 06/06/2019 23:43

Ben Schofield @benschofield
Peterborough by-election turnout just announced - 48.4%. Higher than some predictions, but lower than the 66.7% who voted in the 2017 General Election. @BBCLookEast

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 06/06/2019 23:44

A turnout of 48.4% is higher than most places for the EU elections.

OP posts:
HagridsBigToe · 06/06/2019 23:44

I stand corrected, as according to comments, that's v. high for a by election.

RedToothBrush · 06/06/2019 23:47

I think the turnout for the EUs in Peterborough was 35% I think.

Lonelycrab · 06/06/2019 23:50

Malleable is one way of putting itHmm

Many thanks again red and everyone else for these threads. Keeps me sane knowing there are people that still use their brain. Placemarking with a hedgehog because I haven’t got a cat.

No 10 backtracking on previous statement about when May would quit as PM

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/blog/live/2019/jun/06/tory-leadership-gove-boris-johnson-says-he-would-be-more-flexible-on-brexit-timing-than-johnson-to-avoid-risk-of-election-live-news?page=with:block-5cf91f488f0803f2a595bd45#block-5cf91f488f0803f2a595bd45

Downing Street has been in touch to say that the comments from the prime minister’s spokesman at lobby this morning (see 12.46pm))^ have been over-interpreted. 😂

A source said that there was “no question of the prime minister hanging around beyond the Conservative leadership contest”.
< not now the men in grey suits have told her GO >

The source said that when the spokesman talked about May needing to be able to tell the Queen that her successor could command the confidence of the Commons,
he was just setting out the language used as a formality, not flagging up May’s intention to make this an issue. 😂

BigChocFrenzy · 07/06/2019 00:31

Well, at least if the Faragists win, the loss of a seat should mean that Labour finally force Corbyn into fully supporting a PV
< crosses fingers >

HagridsBigToe · 07/06/2019 01:32

Twitter aflame with rumours that Labour have won by a small margin. Fingers crossed waiting for official results!

tava63 · 07/06/2019 01:32

Owen Jones tweeting it is a win for Labour in Peterborough - looks tight so could be a recount.

HagridsBigToe · 07/06/2019 02:01

@britainelects

Labour HOLD Peterborough.
Brexit Party second.

No voting figures yet.
