The UKIP guy is banging on (very badly) about grammar schools. He says 50% of students should go to a grammar school. Presumably so long as they are not foreign, am guessing.

RedToothBrush · 04/06/2019 18:44

Malthouse has compromised.

He's dropped out of the leadership bid.

Goodness, Kay Burley is annoying me today.
She is 'interviewing' some hapless old buffer from change UK and simply haranguing him and sneering. Grrr.

Piggywaspushed · 04/06/2019 18:47

Re Peterborough I would say , so far, only the LibDem seems to have any detailed political knowledge. The BXP has just more or less admitted to being a private landlord : who are causing huge problems in the City.

Who are the SDP? He is v racist? This can't be the same SDP of yore?

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 04/06/2019 18:56

DGR

We're reenacting the fall of the Republic and the rise of the madness of Tiberius, Caligula (brief interlude for Claudius) and then Nero. After which it really turned to shit.

Vespasian (my personal favourite, ‘Vae, puto deus fio’) & Trajan both not so bad?

And now for something completely different:

DGRossetti · 04/06/2019 18:59

I also heard that Boris Johnson had a 20 minute phone conversation with Donald Trump today.

Did Donnie need to come to the UK for that ? He does know how phones work ?

Sostenueto · 04/06/2019 19:06

PMK

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 19:08

Rather fond of vespasian too

Clavinova · 04/06/2019 19:13

Did Donnie need to come to the UK for that ? He does know how phones work?

The explanation I heard was that Boris could have met with Trump in person today but Boris didn't want to presume that he was going to be chosen as the next Tory leader - playing it cool.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 04/06/2019 19:19

Boris realisies Trump is a divisive figure so is doing what he always does - seeing which way the wind is blowing.

In light of the NHS comments today probably made the right judgement call.

ContinuityError · 04/06/2019 19:19

Don't forget another phone call by Boris
I might - it was 30 years ago.

Of course, it’s easy to forget that a prospective PM “played along” about finding a journalist’s home address so that his chum could have him beaten up Hmm

tobee · 04/06/2019 19:25

Red Malthouse compromise - excellent gag!

RedToothBrush · 04/06/2019 19:33

Michael Fabricant @ michael_fabricant
BREAKING: The 1922 Committee of the Conservative Party has agreed a change to the rules whereby the large numbers of leadership candidates will be whittled down quickly. Talk of 16 votes or more needed for a candidate to stay in the 1st round and 32 votes in the 2nd. 1of2

.2of2 Once the final two have been chosen by Conservative MPs, the final choice will be made by all the members of the Conservative Party.
It is hoped the final 2 will be chosen by the end of next week and a new PM will be in place by the end of July at the latest.

Piggy are you local to Peterborough ?

prettybird · 04/06/2019 19:39

Wonderful. Making up the rules as they go along. Hmm

Bodes well for the future Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 04/06/2019 19:40

Not my constituency basil but close.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/06/2019 19:49

It would be quite funny if all the candidates tied.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/06/2019 19:50

Tory candidates I mean, not the Peterborough by election!

Piggywaspushed · 04/06/2019 19:52

That's throw the cat among the pigeons, too, mind!

ContinuityError · 04/06/2019 19:55

If anyone fancies being Ivanka then you can buy her State Banquet “Confused Amish” gown off the peg at Needless Markup Neiman Marcus for only £9000 of your British pounds.

Not sure there will be a Kate/Meghan effect on stocks though.

Icantreachthepretzels · 04/06/2019 20:06

Here we go - hands off our NHS, Donald Trump petition. If the tory candidates are getting twitchy at the idea of people realising the NHS is on the table in trade talks then we need lots of people to sign this to make them really sweat. Please sign and share.

Mistigri · 04/06/2019 20:09

Ideally that needs to be a government website petition.

But yes I think the NHS stuff has put the frighteners on a few of the candidates.

LoonvanBoon · 04/06/2019 20:15

Piggy, the SDP candidate in Peterborough - Patrick something?- used to be a UKIP MEP (just lost his seat). The new SDP doesn't seem to have anything in common with the old version at all - no idea why they're using the name.

Piggywaspushed · 04/06/2019 20:18

oh yes, he mentioned being an MEP which did rather confuse me!
