{Does that make Jeremy Corbyn Caractacus ?}

I read that as 'Does that make Jeremy Corbyn a cactus?

Songsofexperience · 04/06/2019 15:14

😂

Songsofexperience · 04/06/2019 15:14

An old gnarly cactus

prettybird · 04/06/2019 15:15

Talking about fake news in general (not just Trump's version Wink), this is quite good advice from Naked Security/Sophos. Whatever the bots, AI or paid manipulators try to do (whether for political purposes or purely as click bait for profit), we as supposedly thinking human beings can still filter information and make our own judgements.

Songsofexperience · 04/06/2019 15:16

We might get plugged into the Matrix soon enough but not just yet...

tobee · 04/06/2019 15:19

Trump looks like a toad in that photo with HMQ.

The Gove photo 🤦‍♀️

Songsofexperience · 04/06/2019 15:24

Twisted version of The Apprentice.

Talking about fake news in general

On a related note - maybe one for the older posters ....

Has anyone ever gone to check something via Google, only to find that it seems to have never happened ? Sort of a reverse Mandela effect ?

There are a few times of late that I've wanted to cite something only to discover that usual search terms in Google suggest there's nothing there ? Or is memory that unreliable ?

The last thing I wanted to check was my recollection that during the 1970s, South Africa tried to disguise the origins of produce from the country, as the consumer boycott was biting. Did it ever happen ?

I've also never seen that oft-discussed Conservative poster from the by-election in Brum in the 1960s that said "If you want a --- for a neighbour, vote liberal or labour". I've heard about it. But never once seen a scan, a photo, or evidence it existed.

Songsofexperience · 04/06/2019 15:26

Labour says Trump does not deserve such special honours

Then they should have the courage to highlight the link between brexit and his politics.
We've been saying here for years how it's ultimately a choice between aligning with the US or aligning with Europe. It's either or.

1tisILeClerc · 04/06/2019 15:30

Google is filtered and I would expect many things 'don't quite make it' into the 'google realm'.
China is trying to 'airbrush' Tianenmen Square as much as possible for example.

Iambuffy · 04/06/2019 15:39

Trump looks like like a tanned geriatric scrotum.

CrunchyCarrot · 04/06/2019 15:49

Anna Soubry is the new Change UK leader, and 6 of the party have left it!
Just announced on the BBC news - so living up to their name internally, at least!

CrunchyCarrot · 04/06/2019 15:50

Thank you BackinTime for the passport photo advice. I will look into it. Smile

Very frustrating call ins on Radio Kent on school run - lady who apparently used to campaign for animal rights saying what America does to chickens can't be any worse and telling the presenter (an expert of some sort) that we already inject hormones into beef which is why people are so fat! Completely refused to believe anything he said. Second caller was a guy who said our transport of cattle from Scotland to Spain was worse than anything US does, that we already eat GM crops and chlorine isn't bad because it is in our water. Again presenter challenged all points to complete refusal to believe anything.

I've notice animal rights tied up with Leaver on fb's mum. It's one of the character profiles they have to target Leavers i'm sure of it.

Most worryingly perhaps was that when the presenter asked if they trusted Trump with our NHS both said Virgin had already bought 'most of it' and both said he would be more trusted than Corbyn Sad. One seemed so fixated on the figure of 'trillions in trade' he would forgive all roll backs in regulations Sad. These people were confident enough in their opinions to call in and continue arguing their point even when it was blown out of the water!

prettybird · 04/06/2019 15:59

People forget - or choose to ignore Hmm - the fact that the "trillions of trade that Trump talks about is first and foremost from the US to the UK. Any "extra" trade that the UK might get would be secondary to that. Confused

He hates that the US has a trade deficit with the UK (or any country, for that matter).

His mantras are "America First" and "Make America Great Again" - and the UK would be unwise to forget that Hmm

DGRossetti · 04/06/2019 16:04

Very frustrating call ins on Radio Kent on school run

Having had to endure the masses when driving during the day, I am forever reminded of a priceless quote from P.J. O'Rourke, who documented a visit to London and being a guest on an LBC phone in where it appeared every single caller disagreed with him.

Presenter: Seems you're in the minority here, Mr. O'Rourke. Where are all the people that agree with you ?
P.J.: They all have jobs.

Yes, puerile, and simplistic (and from the 1990s). But in levitas veritas as I have just said Grin

ElenadeClermont · 04/06/2019 16:04

Look at Mumsnet. Someone claims on this thread that kids are taller nowadays because of growth hormones in cows milk: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3597682-that-kids-are-getting-taller-nowadays?pg=6

Medication is soo expensive in the US it is hard to get your head round it.
I can't help thinking that many leave voters will be the first to complain when they have to face into the medical costs of a trade deal with the US.
I also don't think that everyone realizes that private healthcare is so cheap in the U.K. because of the NHS. Without the costs would be huge like the US.

Littlebelina · 04/06/2019 16:18

I'd spotted that carrot, wonder what the other six (including Heidi and Chukka) will do? Could be linked to the apparent disagreement between Souby and Heidi Allen about tactical voting?

Littlebelina · 04/06/2019 16:21

Why, just spotted bigchoc link up thread, wonder if they will join lib Dems?

1tisILeClerc · 04/06/2019 16:21

So 'Change UK' actually means 'No change' in that they still can't organise a piss up in a brewery.

Medication is soo expensive in the US it is hard to get your head round it.

And most insurance policies are capped (DBs is $1,000,000 for medicines).

lonelyplanetmum · 04/06/2019 16:34

wonder if they will join lib Dems?

The article doesn't say they will.

Also for anyone who listened to that DT/TM Press Conference ...our outgoing PM was going on about millions or was it billions of U.K. citizens working for US companies in the US and here...and billions of US citizens working for U.K. companies - reciprocity etc - what was all that about?

Why aren't the anti foreign brigade up in arms about it? It seemed May was quite pro trans Atlantic international mobility. So foreign people living and working in a country they weren't born in? I can't bear to listen again - does anyone remember.
