I'm not afraid to admit I'm terrified

I really am. It feels like we're hurtling towards no deal Brexit with a coward and idiot at the helm who couldnt organise a booze up in a brewery.
What are we heading for? Huge economic crash? War?

Metaphors are fine for most. Leavers don't seem to like them, possibly because they might start to understand what Brexit will do to the UK, and that the unicorns never existed.

myfingersarenotsogreen · 31/05/2019 11:58

Those who say the talk of war is insane... I guess you haven’t studied many? Anyone who has spent any time learning about the routes and origins of war is panicking. Maybe we should listen to them.

How do you think civil wars start?

SleightOfMind · 31/05/2019 12:11

DH and I have made plans to leave the UK with our three younger children.
DS1 has a place at med school here, so not sure what he’ll decide.
He’s very worried about the future for the NHS, as is every single one of the doctors he’s spoken to at his university.
Anyone who isn’t worried about the repercussions of Brexit is either blissfully ignorant or looking to profit from the chaos.

howwudufeel · 31/05/2019 12:13

Where are going Sleight?

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 31/05/2019 12:44

Look it's fine, wars only affect other countries, us British have figured out how to end war for ever.

1tisILeClerc · 31/05/2019 12:56

{Look it's fine, wars only affect other countries, us British have figured out how to end war for ever.}

I can only presume you are taking the piss or you are being ironic.
Although relatively 'quiet', at least as far as gets reported in England, the tension persists in NI. The UK continues to 'export' violence, some with wider justification, some not.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 31/05/2019 13:27

It's alright LeClerc I'm taking the piss.

People who laugh at the prospect of us being involved in a war have either very short memories or very little awareness, or most likely, both.

StealthPolarBear · 31/05/2019 13:53

Who are we going to war with?

1tisILeClerc · 31/05/2019 15:06

{Who are we going to war with?}

With the ever escalating claims and counterclaims by leavers and possibly some Remainers with the country pretty well divided there is going to be a lot of tension before too long. Either Remainers being furious that the UK is getting trashed by leaving, or leavers getting furious if the UK doesn't leave, or still furious when the unicorns don't arrive.
None of it looks like 'happy times' and it is going to take a lot of careful management by whichever government to try and calm all sides.
So far the country is only united in hating the WA but for many different reasons.

StealthPolarBear · 31/05/2019 15:27

Apparently there's a small issue in ireland

Who are we going to war with?

How disgustingly narrow-minded.

Oh dear! What happened here?

KennDodd · 31/05/2019 20:17

Met someone a while ago who said modern people don't go to war. I thought he was quite stupid .

pallisers · 31/05/2019 20:33

I saw my Dad this morning. He saw people machine gunned in the street in his home country.

So did many citizens of the United Kingdom. They are understandably a bit worried it might start again if the peace treaty which ended the civil war is overturned.

It’s ridiculous that my post was deleted.

PCPlumsTruncheon · 31/05/2019 21:57

Stealth I haven’t read the whole thread which is generally something I generally do religiously before I post but I absolutely get where you are coming from.
It just feels like the world has turned into a very dark place and Brexit is a symptom of that.
My husband is Northern Irish and the first time I went there was in 1996. I still have this vision of driving through the border where there were soldiers with guns.
He has 6 siblings that are dotted around either side of the border and, when we visit, we go through the border about 10 times a day and the only thing you notice is that the signs change front miles to kms.
The Good Friday agreement was one of most amazing things in history- it united the Labour and Conservative party.
People had to bite their lip and see people who had murdered their child let out of jail but they did it to stop the endless ‘tit for tat’
I have 3 children and I am beyond furious about what Brexit is going to do to their futures.
My son is at Imperial college doing biomedical science. He is fascinated with pharmacology. The European Medicine Agency moved its HQ from London to Amsterdam because of Brexit.
That would have been the perfect job for him/
I get you. I understand.

PCPlumsTruncheon · 31/05/2019 22:33

I remember people on here when they declared the referendum saying ‘what about the Irish border’?
It seemed to occur to people on Mumsnet that it might be an issue before it occurred to David Cameron

PCPlumsTruncheon · 01/06/2019 04:59

I’m rambling now but the point I was trying to make was that over 3,000 people died in the troubles. My husband’s best friend’s wife was killed in the Omagh bombing along with her mum. She was pregnant with twins. She left 3 children behind.
The fact that Politicians can say that the Good Friday Agreement can just be chucked out of the window absolutely sickens me

namechange0123 · 01/06/2019 06:19

I am terrified too @StealthPolarBear.

I'm EU and in theory have nothing to be afraid of as I have acquired my British citizenship, as has DH - consequently, DS is dual citizen from birth.

But our jobs are strictly dependent on the budget the government will define for public expenditure and that can change quite a lot if the economy crashes.

Also, DH only comes back at weekends, I'm enjoying the help of PIL who have moved here semi-permanently to stay with us, and they might have to go back home for 3 months after every 3 months or apply for a visa, which is sad. Freedom of movement is one of the best outcomes of the EU.

But besides personal circumstances, I find everything so disheartening. I don't want to go back to my f** country as someone would say, as it's also dominated by an idiotic far-right individual (any guesses? Lol)

Terrified for NI too.
