I'm going to vote for an MP that supports Brexit and leaving the customs union and single market. What about the rest of you?

@wafflyversatile That a communist point of view. I can see why some on here like the EU!

How will banning private schools generate money to be invested in state? It will result in state resources being spread more thinly as it absorbs all the pupils currently attending private school.

SimonJT · 31/03/2019 18:34

I have no idea, Meg Hillier is my MP, her voting record is poor. Unless there is a significant change I will most likely spoil my ballot.

ElenadeClermont · 31/03/2019 18:39

@JustAnotherPoster00 Sorry I have just seen your post. No, it is not Hoey. I am in the North East, and my MP decided that she would only represent leavers, because remainers have nowhere else to go. We'll see about that.

prettybird · 31/03/2019 18:43

Codswallop. I'm not talking about "just going to Uni" (although I will agree with you that that process has been devalued): I'm talking about state school pupils going to good Unis - which is my (or rather ds') experience from his inner city school with a high SIMD (c30% iirc).

Ds' classmates from this year and last are off to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, St Andrews, Strathclyde, Oxbridge, amongst others.... to do a range of subjects from law, medicine, engineering, vet science, languages, architecture, Physics, Maths, Politics and international relations..... Real (tough) subjects at real universities.

The "private school" pupil that ds is now sharing with at Uni is the one going off the rails Hmm (coincidentally, he should have gone to the school that ds went to - they didn't even know that they were both going to the same Uni as they hadn't seen each other for 6 years)

The hothoused kids from the private schools and from East Ren (in particular) and East Dunbartonshire are the ones more likely to drop out. Sad

But anyway, this isn't a thread about Scottish education: it's a thread about who you'd vote for at the next election.

If/when Scottish independence happens (and Brexit is making it more likely Smile), there will be a whole range of parties to vote for Smile It's probably the quickest way for you to get rid of the SNP as they well splinter once their goal is achieved Wink

wafflyversatile · 31/03/2019 18:48

If you think the eu is communist perhaps you should go back to school for another few years.

WickedGoodDoge · 31/03/2019 19:16

As the mother of two privately educated Scottish DC, they are neither one to two years ahead of their state sector peers, nor are they “hothoused”. Hmm

Littlespaces · 31/03/2019 19:25

Poor kids don't stand a chance.

They will stand even less of a chance if we leave EU with no deal.

I'll support an MP & party who want to Revoke or re-join.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 31/03/2019 19:26

Absolutely not voting for Corbyn, or his side kicks. Lib Dems and Greens are also women hating lunatics. My safe seat tory MP is a waste of space even if I was prepared to vote for the mess that is the tory party. I'm politically homeless and it will be an independent or a spoiled paper. Hope to goodness the Change party turns out eventually to be a sane, centre left option.

Bluntness100 · 31/03/2019 19:31

I don't know, I've always been Tory and I can't support labour and Corbyn, but I want a party that will keep us in

Oh and we won't adopt the euro, that's already been confirmed as nonsense, we have a permanent exclusion.

Littlespaces · 31/03/2019 19:36

We are more likely to adopt the Euro and lose the rebate if we leave, as the young will re-join in the future. We have the best deal in the EU now.

Colossal own goal for the UK.

OOAOML · 31/03/2019 19:36

SNP. The last couple of years have totally changed my view on independence.

needsleepzzz · 31/03/2019 19:38

Tory. Could accept Labour, but not Corbyn!

needsleepzzz · 31/03/2019 19:43

My MP is Conservative, safe and thankfully very good, highly thought of and very passionate about rural areas Star

MutantDisco · 31/03/2019 19:43

OP you talked about education earlier. What do you mean by 'liberal' subjects? I'm not familiar with the term. Do you mean the seven liberal arts (trivium and quadrivium)?

ElyElyOy · 31/03/2019 19:46

It was quite a close call between labour and Tory here last time but the evil Tory woman won so I will vote labour (as I always have) and hope she wins this time.

We are lucky that our labour candidates have always been quite Centre-Left Blair-Babe types and the current PPC is very pro-EU so fingers crossed.

If a pro-Corbyn, anti-EU labour PPC gets chosen instead then I will vote Green.

Incidentally when I do these “which party most aligns with your views” tests it’s always Greens followed by Labour, then Lib Dem’s and Tory’s don’t get a look in. I used to be a Labour member, but Corbyn ended my allegiance to them I’m afraid.

WheelyCote · 31/03/2019 19:48

Not sure. A remainer here. Ive lost faith in any of them delivering anything they promise or doing whats best for the country.

beebreath · 31/03/2019 19:52

In my area it is a safe Tory seat. If a labour candidate was the only one standing they still wouldn't win

Put a donkey in with a blue rosette and the donkey would win. 😂

EggysMom · 31/03/2019 20:00

Are you scared of a different result? Surely the will of the people is resolute and Leave would get an even bigger majority. Wouldn't they?

Not in the least bit scared. Don't know why remoaners keep trotting out this line. But we were told that leave is leave, brexit is brexit, and now our elected officials seem to want to renege on that result. It's no wonder that some of us have lost faith in democracy in this country.

RedToothBrush · 31/03/2019 20:20

Your problem is not with democracy.

Your problem is with incompetence and people who don't understand the detail of how things work and instead are only interested in ideology rather that what is possible in the real world.

This is true of every political party. Those with ability, practical skill and vision were long since driven out, largely by political bullying and chronic nepotism.

That's not the fault of democracy. That the fault of corruption and chronism. Which have flourished as local media has declined and accountability has declined through lower rates of political engagement and growing public apathy. And accelerated with the effects of austerity and the post 2008 crash.

That's not a failure of democracy though.

Don't be fooled by politicians blaming the system for their own inadequacy when the shit hits the fan.

RedToothBrush · 31/03/2019 20:21

As the old saying goes 'a bad workman blames his tools'.

Thus bad politicians blame democracy for them being shit at keeping the country functional.

Windowsareforcheaters · 31/03/2019 20:29

@EggysMom It's no wonder that some of us have lost faith in democracy in this country

If you believe that democracy means the majority always wins and mob rule is absolute then you should have lost faith in 'democracy' years ago.

Democracy, when working well, is about nuance and protecting minority rights. It is about working for the good of the country not serving the needs of the mob.

Democracy is a word flung about by leavers with no understanding of what it means and how it is implemented.

Onemorefortheroad · 31/03/2019 20:30

SNP

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/03/2019 20:36

Lib Dem, though I'd consider Change UK if they put up a candidate here.

Redwinestillfine · 31/03/2019 20:41

I won't be deciding based on Brexit. I would have to see policies on other stuff. Based on what's been going on in parliament lately it won't be Labour or the Tories though.
