Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

Carney is brilliant. One of the few people who interview well on R4. Clear and measured“

And as such feared by the ERG and their ilk, precisely why they take every opportunity to try to discredit him.
One of the few straws I’m clutching at in this cesspit is that they’ve failed to do so. Would be pretty impossible, he’s very, very smart, understands the markets like no other Governor before him and is clean, with integrity and no agenda other than his remit.
Most people, whatever their Brexit desire, recognise that (no, he’s not a friend or relative Grin, I’ve only listened to a speech or two, just a good bloke. Personally, if they’d asked me to stay on I’d have said on yer bike and been straight on the next flight to Canada.

Calloway · 29/03/2019 11:24

Eugh Ian Duncan Smith turns my stomach

Me too. That photo of him last week looking like Toad of Toad Hall on his way to Chequers in his classic sports car made me want to storm a palace.

ContinuityError · 29/03/2019 11:25

DadDadDad That’s true re where the money is going. BIL does this for a living and has Yes at a 24% chance. He’s been pretty accurate up to now so hoping he’s right again.

woman19 · 29/03/2019 11:26

All EU flags behind the reporters have been replaced with UKIP and Union Jack. Can't hear Bray anymore

Because of continued violent threats to Pro EU campaigners and MPs, police have advised against #Sodem presence today.

AutumnCrow · 29/03/2019 11:28

Awful isn't it, those stalwart campaigners having to be moved for their own safety today, after they've been there for so long.

The80sweregreat · 29/03/2019 11:30

I do think I may have dreamt all of this, but on the day after the referendum i was listening to five live with Adrian Chiles in the car around lunchtime and he was speaking to someone and they kind of predicted all of this - the infighting, the call for another vote ( then having another vote?) how the government would be pulled to pieces. Nobody else i know heard this conversation ( among the many held that day) but it seems eerie to me now that a lot of it has come true.
anyway, have to see what happens today now.
My MP wont vote for ' mark 3'.
I think a lot of others will.

1tisILeClerc · 29/03/2019 11:31

Mervyn King, like so many 'Brexiteers' tend to start off their point of discussion in a reasonable and usually 'correct' way. If they are clever orators and the subject is 'serious' in consequences, more vague words get put in to add a bit of wriggle room if challenged.
Towards the end of the piece the 'sting' might be revealed, such as Patrick Minfords 'Great for the financial industry, but all manufacturing will close'. Of course modern society has lost the ability to concentrate for more than a few minutes and the 'sting' is conveniently forgotten or deliberately airbrushed out.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/03/2019 11:32

Been awake since 4:30 am with an anxious feeling about today. But take some time to get outside, breathe in the spring air, admire the emerging buds and honey bees because no matter what happens today, they will still be there tomorrow. Look for the continuity of life.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 29/03/2019 11:33

FYI all the cat pics are posting first time Wink

There is apparently a protest planned at the Shard today that will 'make the Paris riots look like a fucking tea party'.

Many of my colleagues (and students) are working across the road from the Shard all day. I hope there's a serious police presence.

AutumnCrow · 29/03/2019 11:35

The Tory chap sitting behind John Redwood is either asleep or dead.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 29/03/2019 11:35

Eugh Ian Duncan Smith turns my stomach

Ive always called him Ian Dunkedin-Shit ever since his DWP days

1tisILeClerc · 29/03/2019 11:36

{Because of continued violent threats to Pro EU campaigners and MPs, police have advised against #Sodem presence today.}

I saw a demonstration in Korea many years ago. There were about 40, mostly women protestors (I think asking for a wage increase) with placards outside the front of the factory.
Surrounding them was a line of anti riot police, 3 lines deep with full riot gear and guns. It was bordering on surreal.

DadDadDad · 29/03/2019 11:36

BIL does this for a living and has Yes at a 24% chance. He’s been pretty accurate up to now so hoping he’s right again.

I'm sure he knows his stuff, but how do you measure accuracy? If he's got some independent events correctly pegged at 24%, that means one in four of those events will actually happen. So if he's had three occasions where he said 24% chance and the event didn't happen, this could be the fourth occasion where it does happen, which would confirm his accuracy! Shock

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 11:37

Either asleep or dead Grin

LonelyTiredandLow · 29/03/2019 11:39

I've noticed that the state broadcaster news keeps saying "both sides of the argument" have protests going on in London today. Are they trying to say pro-EU campaigners are there and then they can blame them for causing trouble? From what I've heard it is the different factions of Leave that will cause trouble amongst themselves?

The80sweregreat · 29/03/2019 11:41

I hope it doesn't kick off up there today, what good will that all do anyway? they are idiots to even try it.
My son works up the city,. but is off today, thank goodness.
lets hope any trouble is contained.

TheGhostOfBrexit · 29/03/2019 11:41

Ian Dunkedin shit Grin
Otoh Carney, swooooon 😘

Calloway · 29/03/2019 11:42

Everyone knows which side causes trouble when in a large group. The state broadcaster really is quite tiresome.

ContinuityError · 29/03/2019 11:42

DadDadDad He’s called MV1 and MV2 majorities to within a couple of votes each time.

Will try and get his prediction for today.

TheGhostOfBrexit · 29/03/2019 11:43

Let's hope anyone who breaks the law is arrested...

Langrish · 29/03/2019 11:44

“There is apparently a protest planned at the Shard today that will 'make the Paris riots look like a fucking tea party'.”

And these morons believe they’re helping the Leave cause how, exactly?

Langrish · 29/03/2019 11:46

TheGhostOfBrexit

......
Otoh Carney, swooooon 😘”

Personally, I admire his intellect .... 😜

DadDadDad · 29/03/2019 11:47

Ah, well if he's getting the vote counts that's a lot more impressive than just the binary yes/no!

Did he predict all 8 indicative votes? What odds were they offering on an 8-part accumulator? Grin

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/03/2019 11:47

Scottish independence may well involve some initial pain

Not may, will.

But not as much pain as an England being run by the ERG as a vassal state of Trump's US.

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 11:48

WTH are these people planning to do Confused swear at people, break stuff Hmm
