Westminstenders: Arse about Face

Everything about Brexit seems to have been done wrongly.

Setting red lines to rule out a compromise

The attempt to use executive power to trigger A50, that resulted in a court case

Triggering A50 before knowing what the UK wanted

Agreeing to the backstop before any Tory MP understood the GFA

Appointing a Brexit minister before checking he understood where Dover was.

May going on about NI and pissing off the DUP before they were just about to climb down.

Having a Meaningless Vote repeatedly with a gun to head.

Contempt of Parliament and just general fucking up.

Tonight, 3 days before we were due to leave the HoC finally sat down to decide what Brexit outcomes they thought would be a good idea - more than 2years after that should have happened.

And we now we are told the meaningful vote might be may even more meaningless by being wrapped up in the illusive Withdrawal Agreement Implimentation Bill.

Farce doesn't even cover it.

Anyway Indicative Vote results incoming in approx 15 mins.

God, we are a mess.

Horehound · 28/03/2019 19:11

So the vote yesterday on the extension of the WA, the one that was debated and Bill cash spoke for a long time on...over 100 people voted against it. So surely the same people will vote against the WA tomorrow?

RevokeRemainRebuild · 28/03/2019 19:12

Rory Tory (prison minister) on C4 now setting Labour up to take the blame for this mess.

OublietteBravo · 28/03/2019 19:15

Tomorrow’s vote is during the afternoon. How am I supposed to cope? I’ll be at work and thus devoid of MN and alcohol. Waaaah. Woe is me.

Belindabelle · 28/03/2019 19:20

I am going to have to re arrange my day tomorrow. Up and out extra early to get back in time.

Sostenueto · 28/03/2019 19:21

Yes they are going to throw up in labours face the fact that both JC and KS said a while back they didn't have a problem with the WA. The Tory party getting ready for a GE so they want labour to be the scapegoat. I can't believe that cow TM has got round procedure, hoodwinked Parliament ( they got 10 minutes before debate to read the motion) so were not prepared for debate. They are devious snakes the Tories. How could anyone ever trust them! I'm so angry and frustrated. Arrrrrrgh!AngryAngry

TheMShip · 28/03/2019 19:22

@SwedishEdith that source has not been paying attention.

The House of Lords approved the SI yesterday.

May and the Tories have caused fuck up after fuck up over Brexit; they can’t pin this on Labour.

Please tell me she won’t get blankBrexit through tomorrow-who is likely to vote for it??

RHTawneyonabus · 28/03/2019 19:28

So this article sums up everything I think about Brexit www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2019/03/humbling-britain

I’ve been told not to come into work tomorrow as it’s too dangerous (I work near Parliament and we are expecting the nasty leave underbelly to be out in force Yaxley-Lennon etc.).

ContinuityError · 28/03/2019 19:29

SwedishEdith as the EU changed exit day in its decision last week and international law trumps domestic law, the UK isn’t leaving the EU on 29th March.

It is true though that both Houses need to approve the SI to change the date in UK law.

OublietteBravo · 28/03/2019 19:32

I don’t blaming labour is going to fly.

’Its all their fault because they voted against the government while in opposition.’

Totally unexpected that. The opposition voting against the government.

HeronLanyon · 28/03/2019 19:33

rht omg. What the f is going on anymore ?

HeronLanyon · 28/03/2019 19:35

I live closish to Westminster and I’ve got to say the helicopter activity is a bit much this evening !

SwedishEdith · 28/03/2019 19:38

the UK isn’t leaving the EU on 29th March.

I understand that but wondered if some hideous legal can of worms had been opened here that hadn't been thought of. Clearly, Jon Stone wondered as well. Aargh! Anyway, not the case.

dontcallmelen · 28/03/2019 19:40

Rh totally agree that’s a wonderful piece of no nonsense writing very succinctly put.

jasjas1973 · 28/03/2019 19:41

Considering most of the public don't like the WA, Labour would be mad to support it, indeed considering the flak they got for Gardners comments, a 3 line whip against the WA is a vote winner.

imho the Tories can blame whoever they like, they cannot escape the fact they are in Govt and it seems the public also blame the tories for how they've handled Brexit.

InterchangeableEmma · 28/03/2019 19:44

Labour apparently not supporting

Thank fuck

Littlespaces · 28/03/2019 19:46

Good.

MarshaBradyo · 28/03/2019 19:48

That article Sad v good but sad

dontcallmelen · 28/03/2019 19:50

Yy very sad & quite sobering.

OublietteBravo · 28/03/2019 19:51

An excellent article by New Statesman. I love the turn of phrase regarding JC leading an opposition-in-hosing rather than a government-in-waiting.

OublietteBravo · 28/03/2019 19:51

Argh opposition-in-HIDING.

1tisILeClerc · 28/03/2019 19:52

{I’ve been told not to come into work tomorrow as it’s too dangerous (I work near Parliament and we are expecting the nasty leave underbelly to be out in force Yaxley-Lennon etc.).}

In a way, the thug (on the street rather than in Westminster) element showing their tactics and welcoming Farage who should have been arriving at Westminster tomorrow? will provide an indication of what is really going on.

Icantreachthepretzels · 28/03/2019 19:55

I emailed everyone in the shadow cabinet asking them not to support the W.A tomorrow and to vote for a P.V on Monday in the indicative votes (if they get the chance). Glad to hear they're not planning to vote it through - but will believe it when they don't. JC does so much ridiculous, contrary shit that you can never tell.

I'm wondering if I should email the DUP asking them to vote against it. I'm not sure I want them knowing I exist if I'm honest - but they do seem like the key voters in all this.
I might also look up all the tories who voted against the w.a last time and email to ask them to do the same again - but that would mean inadvertantly emailing some of the batshit ERGers.
