Brexit

Westminstenders: Arse about Face

Everything about Brexit seems to have been done wrongly.

Setting red lines to rule out a compromise

The attempt to use executive power to trigger A50, that resulted in a court case

Triggering A50 before knowing what the UK wanted

Agreeing to the backstop before any Tory MP understood the GFA

Appointing a Brexit minister before checking he understood where Dover was.

May going on about NI and pissing off the DUP before they were just about to climb down.

Having a Meaningless Vote repeatedly with a gun to head.

Contempt of Parliament and just general fucking up.

Tonight, 3 days before we were due to leave the HoC finally sat down to decide what Brexit outcomes they thought would be a good idea - more than 2years after that should have happened.

And we now we are told the meaningful vote might be may even more meaningless by being wrapped up in the illusive Withdrawal Agreement Implimentation Bill.

Farce doesn't even cover it.

Anyway Indicative Vote results incoming in approx 15 mins.

I’m not surprised on the mh effect. A crisis and disorder completely self-imposed by a few people in government.

Horehound · 28/03/2019 18:28

So it sounds like it won't pass tomorrow anyway doesn't it?

lonelyplanetmum · 28/03/2019 18:28

This .. Conservative member and leaver signed the petition to revoke article 50. His logic was if the government have done so badly now, how will they be able to handle more negotiations?

Is a really good point we should bring out more with our Leaver chums.

MarshaBradyo · 28/03/2019 18:29

It feels like it’ll be the WA or no deal by default. I just can’t imagine them getting their act together to agree on another way.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/03/2019 18:31

Being completely helpless as to your own destiny / future is bound to have some detrimental effect on your MH, with the extent being determined by personal factors.

I'm struggling a bit, but try to keep a lid on it. It's tricky.

Butterymuffin · 28/03/2019 18:31

Labour won't vote for it. (Although obviously there will be the usual rebels.)

It's high time Labour said to Kate Hoey that they will remove the whip if she votes against their preferences again. These are critical votes now and as someone said earlier she might as well be a member of the DUP.

Peregrina · 28/03/2019 18:33

My DH also thinks there will be a last minute revoke. He says he voted Remain, but is really a Lexiter. When he trotted out that 80% of people voted for parties which had Brexit in their manifesto, which while undoubtedly true, is meant to imply that the same number support Brexit, I accused him of throwing in his lot with Farage and Grease-Knob, and he didn't like that comparison at all!

dontcallmelen · 28/03/2019 18:33

It’s definitely affecting my MH, also,on the news just now over three million children living in poverty I just want to whimper in the corner.

dontcallmelen · 28/03/2019 18:34

Yy Kate Hoey, awful odious woman.

DGRossetti · 28/03/2019 18:37

I just heard someone on the radio say that if the WA passes tomorrow then that could negate the need for a meaningful vote at all

Considered (on these threads) 2 weeks ago ...

Unescorted · 28/03/2019 18:37

Another petition - this one for a second vote

Heard the Brexit stress thing on PM. Difficult to manage stress if you know your business is going to go down the pan (v grateful that’s not me).
Managed my stress today (day off) by doing what I now know is a deep clean (I wiped down the skirting boards, whoopee) in my flat and am now off to the cinema. I’ll put stressing off until tomorrow.

Littlespaces · 28/03/2019 18:42

Tory Councillor just rang my doorbell.

I blasted him for five minutes.

Ever so satisfying and told him I would never vote Tory due to Brexit.

lonelyplanetmum · 28/03/2019 18:46

Isn't it horrible that we now describe the UK as "twisted weasels "**

As a diversionary aside calling some government members weasels is more shocking and apt than you might think.

Weasels and stoats think nothing of harming those they are supposed to represent and protect.

By about 12-13 weeks of age female babies can breed -there are instances of males mating with their daughters inside the nests. I'm not accusing MPs of incest but lack of morality- yes.

Stoats actually upholster their nests with skins of the hunted rodents to conserve heat. As well as rats, mice, voles, moles, frogs, small birds and fish they attack even larger animals too.

BiglyBadgers · 28/03/2019 18:48

I’m not surprised on the mh effect. A crisis and disorder completely self-imposed by a few people in government.

I have a long term mental health condition and my psychiatrist told me I should try and reduce my stress. I'm not sure she had accounted for Brexit when she said that. Hmm

That's pretty impressive. Too smart for our MPs. I can hardly be shocked by it when I'm sitting here in my sheepskin slippers.

What about this mess I've just read on Twitter Shock

James Copeland
‏*@JustJaamesy*

To be honest, things are really starting to get messy in the Commons. The High Court ruling in Miller's case vs the government made expressly clear that only an Act of Parliament can amend an Act of Parliament; not a Statutory Instrument.
To my knowledge, the SI has not yet
/1

Been approved by the HoL which it must before it can be considered legal. As of right now (unless I've not caught up with everything) it is very much still just a Draft.

There is a serious potential here that this could be later declared illegal thus automatically putting us
/2

Into a setting where we have left the EU on a 'no deal' basis as of March 29th.

Some argue that S.20(4) gives ability for amendment, but that doesn't give ability to act outside of constitutional procedure.

This is something to keep a keen eye on...

Jon Stone
‏*@joncstone*

i’d not heard that suggestion before but will certainly be ‘interesting' if it happens!

Part in parcel of having an unwritten constitution that relies on interpretation and prior case rulings, I suppose!

Either way, this whole thing is a complete mess. 😖

HeronLanyon · 28/03/2019 18:51

Just walked by a ministerial car with police/bodyguard cars all parked up outside Chambers - laughed as I thought whoever it is sure does need all the advice they can get at the mo !

Runningintothesunset · 28/03/2019 18:53

It’s a prolonged period of psychological stress, it’s having a horrible toll. DH and I had a full on row about Brexit this week - I think in 15 years together we’ve maybe had 3 other arguments so it’s a big deal for us.

The institute of ... rang today at work to do a business attitudes survey. Apparently they’ve removed all the Brexit questions from the survey because of how angry the responses were from everyone.

HeronLanyon · 28/03/2019 19:02

Agreednitnis really stressful - just silly things like telling dp (of 30 years) to sign petition and sorting out going on march in Saturday. Both brought about ‘it’s pointless - I’m sick and tired of all of this - no one will take a blind bit of notice - sick of caring anymore’. I was completely gobsmacked. Never known anything like that before. Caused row. Some flouncing off by me. Depressed all round !
If boris does by any chance become prime minister I don’t really know what the point is anymore. Shock

BercowsSilkTie · 28/03/2019 19:04

My stomach is a mess. I can't tolerate chocolate any more it seems so the kitkat problem is now really a problem 😩 no matter what I eat my stomach bloats and I get epigastric pain. My exH is on the warpath though and being abusive so that on top of the political bollocks is having a very negative effect.

Littlespaces · 28/03/2019 19:04

I must be very stressed.

I'm shaking after that visit.

67chevvyimpala · 28/03/2019 19:05

I've eaten 3 crunchies today
