Westminstenders: Arse about Face

Everything about Brexit seems to have been done wrongly.

Setting red lines to rule out a compromise

The attempt to use executive power to trigger A50, that resulted in a court case

Triggering A50 before knowing what the UK wanted

Agreeing to the backstop before any Tory MP understood the GFA

Appointing a Brexit minister before checking he understood where Dover was.

May going on about NI and pissing off the DUP before they were just about to climb down.

Having a Meaningless Vote repeatedly with a gun to head.

Contempt of Parliament and just general fucking up.

Tonight, 3 days before we were due to leave the HoC finally sat down to decide what Brexit outcomes they thought would be a good idea - more than 2years after that should have happened.

And we now we are told the meaningful vote might be may even more meaningless by being wrapped up in the illusive Withdrawal Agreement Implimentation Bill.

Farce doesn't even cover it.

Anyway Indicative Vote results incoming in approx 15 mins.

Languish,
I bet Tusk likes to know what other Europeans think and will even be happy to read your message.

Do you have a link to the page ?

I’m in a strong remain constituency in Scotland and my MP voted against everything apart from EFTA but outside customs union. I’ll be dropping him an email this morning. If there is GE I can vote SNP as the alternative (never have before). This would at least represent my remain stance in Westminster.

What do you do in England? What are those of you in Wales and NI planning to do ? Neither Tory or Labour represents you - they keep on bleating about their manifesto but you don’t get to pick and choose which bits you’re voting for. Do the Lib Dems or TIGs offer hope? How can you punish the incumbent MP for voting against the wishes of their constituents??

HesterThrale · 28/03/2019 07:17

Surely Zac Goldsmith will get booted out at the next election? (Majority 45, Remain 72% area).
He voted against the SI agreeing the exit date extension, yes to ‘no deal’ and no to virtually everything else.

Same can be said for Kate Hoey (78% Remain area.)

Bearbehind · 28/03/2019 07:17

Beyond confused now!

Is MV3 happening or not?

Runningintothesunset · 28/03/2019 07:18

There has never been a candidate in my constituency that wasn’t labour or conservative Sad This bit if England is screwed.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/mar/27/brexit-westminster-is-like-the-crystal-maze-on-crystal-meth This made me smile with its description though

I used this and selected President of the European Council drop down
(Not very good at links, hope it works).

Freudian slip, anguish is probably appropriate right now!

My MP is Geoffrey Cox, I can't stand him. He's out for himself more than the party I think. He abstained from all. I don't think MPs should be able to abstain, especially without serious consequences, surely they are there to debate and vote. I hate the whipping, they should always be able to vote for what they believe is best. It's so muddied by party politics. I hate the braying and shouting too. It's all fucked in there.

Runningintothesunset · 28/03/2019 07:26

Hester - that’s brilliant

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 28/03/2019 07:28

My Mp voted no to everything except no deal and a preferential FTA unicorns. Not surprising but I suppose at least he voted. Mirrored by the other mp in my borough constituency. They're both erg headbangers.

ShowerOfBrexshit · 28/03/2019 07:31

Lurker here. Thanks to Westminstenders for such astuteness and helping me work out what is happening with brexit over the last few months.

Awful how so many MPs voted only for 6 and 7 - most from leave areas but a few from remain ones too??! 7 is just a unicorn is it not?

lonelyplanetmum · 28/03/2019 07:32

Can we analyse what could happen on the second attempt on Monday?

So the smallest gap between ayes and noes were:

•KC custom's Union
• Revoke

Is that right?

LouiseCollins28 · 28/03/2019 07:32

Just to say that if your MP is in the Cabinet, G Cox is one example, don’t be surprised that they didn’t vote for anything, that is what they agreed to do.

borntobequiet · 28/03/2019 07:33

My MP voted against everything bar 6, 7 and 8. But that doesn’t surprise me as she’s all for the WA and I did email her a few weeks ago to say that despite disagreeing with her on just about everything else, I’d prefer the WA as the least worst option (at that time) to no deal so accepted her support for it.
Petition now over 5.9 million. My son just sent me a lovely picture of me and him at the March, one of you, possibly Courage took it...thanks so much and I don’t look drunk (usually do in photos even when stone cold sober, I think I roll my eyes or something).

Flowerplower · 28/03/2019 07:34

I am incredibly disappointed by JC but not quite ready to give up on the Labour party just yet. If I thought Lib Dems could ever gain a majority I would probably vote for them but on the other hand they've recently had a leader I could not bear (Tim Farron and his evangelical Christian views causing wobbles in his voting record on equal marriage along with his refusal to say gay sex is not a sin. And that's without even mentioning NC/ tuition fees).

If only there were an "anti-Tory" party all those of us who despise the Tories could vote for just to stop them getting in and waging war against the poor I would vote for then in a heartbeat. Because even the "good Tories" who are showing integrity now...well if you scratch the surface just a little it gets ugly fast. Oliver Letwin was a great champion for Thatcher's poll tax, for example. So while I agree in principle against voting for a rosette I feel strongly enough to vote against one and at the moment it seems like in England that can only realistically be a Labour vote. And I'd be very happy if for example Keir Starmer were PM.

What frightens me the most now about TM's deal getting through is not the deal itself but who would replace her to implement it. I don't give a damn about the woman but it's also for that reason alone I worry about her health. At this point I'd want to keep her and prop her up "Weekend at Bernie's" style just to prevent something even worse and nastier crawling up to take her place.

borntobequiet · 28/03/2019 07:35

Oh it’s possibly because I have sunglasses on...

1tisILeClerc · 28/03/2019 07:36

Missed out last night's 'excitement' but it appears the crap is continuing.
I hope Theresa kept the receipt for the bung to the DUP.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 28/03/2019 07:36

My MP voted yes to the first 5, no to 6 and 7 and abstained on 8. Very pleased - Labour MP in remain area (highest voting in Revoke petition) Smile.

It’s all being portrayed negatively in the press though saying MPs didn’t agree on anything.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/03/2019 07:40

I don't know why we are talking about Monday tbh. Isn't that too late?

Flowerplower · 28/03/2019 07:40

LuckyMarmiteLover the way the press is reporting the indicative votes is ridiculous, isn't it?!?! Everyone knew there was never going to be an overall majority for any of the items. What's interesting is which ones were most popular going into the next round on Monday. The way it's being reported now as a failure is absolutely not necessary when there's a much more positive story in there waiting to be told!

MadAboutWands · 28/03/2019 07:41

PMK

My MP is Labour and voted against no deal and for PV, Labour idea and revoke if too close to a no deal. We are a leave area (67%) too....

lonelyplanetmum · 28/03/2019 07:42

So taking option M that was 268 ayes 295 noes for a public vote.

So a gap of 27?

Only 563 MPs voted.
10 of the abstentions were the shadow cabinet despite a Labour whip? Who else abstained?

Only eight Tories voted for this but how many Labour against the results won't load as I'm on the train!

DivisionBelles · 28/03/2019 07:42

My MP is a true blue Tory and voted against everything except 6, 7 and 8. We're in a 60% leave area and the Revoke Article 50 petition signature count for this area is now getting dangerously close to his majority. I feel another email coming on, even though he hasn't replied to the last one I sent fucker
