Westminstenders: Arse about Face

Everything about Brexit seems to have been done wrongly.

Setting red lines to rule out a compromise

The attempt to use executive power to trigger A50, that resulted in a court case

Triggering A50 before knowing what the UK wanted

Agreeing to the backstop before any Tory MP understood the GFA

Appointing a Brexit minister before checking he understood where Dover was.

May going on about NI and pissing off the DUP before they were just about to climb down.

Having a Meaningless Vote repeatedly with a gun to head.

Contempt of Parliament and just general fucking up.

Tonight, 3 days before we were due to leave the HoC finally sat down to decide what Brexit outcomes they thought would be a good idea - more than 2years after that should have happened.

And we now we are told the meaningful vote might be may even more meaningless by being wrapped up in the illusive Withdrawal Agreement Implimentation Bill.

Farce doesn't even cover it.

Anyway Indicative Vote results incoming in approx 15 mins.

Will we know if our MP abstained in any of the indicative votes?

We don't send them to Parliament to abstain.

Peregrina · 27/03/2019 22:17

Meanwhile the petition is still gathering numbers: 5904003 when I last looked, so only the numbers of a small city need to sign and it's passed 6 million.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 22:17

If we Brexit, we must remember that Labour could have supported Revoke today and given it a majority Angry

prettybird · 27/03/2019 22:17

Parliament would not vote for Revoke unless it was it was a straight No Deal vs Revoke.

But that's what exactly what the motion was Confused: Revoke as a backstop if the UK was a day away from going out with No Deal Confused

pretty, cherry muttered "fucking labour" when the results were read out.

I'm fuming at JC tbh - indicative votes should always have been free votes. This is a cross-party issue and they (most MPs) need to get a bloody grip and realise that the country has to come before party.

Langrish · 27/03/2019 22:19

Just to say, Revoke petition is suddenly shooting up again after several slow days.

Horehound · 27/03/2019 22:20

f we Brexit, we must remember that Labour could have supported Revoke today and given it a majority Well, there's still the votes on Monday maybe they will change their mind.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 22:20

AutumnCrow You can check here, for each vote how each individual MP voted, or didn't

QueenMabby · 27/03/2019 22:20

PMK into the middle of this clusterfuck of epic proportions. Off to see how my MP voted....
Thanks Red and the Westminstender stalwarts for the info and updates (and the laughs in the face of crisis) I’d be lost without you!

AutumnCrow · 27/03/2019 22:20

What are the fucking Lib Dems playing at??

NoWordForFluffy · 27/03/2019 22:20

So what exactly is the next step after this?

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 27/03/2019 22:21

I disagree. Revoke is the status quo and that needs to be in any referendum in my view. I would expect it to be whatever deal (by this vote a CU deal) versus status quo which is remain.

Agree. Added to this, it would be shameful not to have it on the ballot when almost 6 million have signed the petition.

Surely they will need more time than just Monday?

Everyone's saying that they should have had these votes and discussions two years ago. It's all been as if the referendum had been 93% leave and all the MPs were leave too. Madness.

If there is another general election I hope all the best MPs don't decide not to stand. And the froot loops remain.

RedToothBrush · 27/03/2019 22:21

Yes I was going to say the abstaining is significant. Most LDs only voted for revoke and PV. If pushed what would they do? DUP also abstained on a few.

The cabinet also abstained.

OP posts:
PickleSarnie · 27/03/2019 22:23

Fucsake. My MP voted FOR no deal. It's the only one he voted for. Utter arse.

AutumnCrow · 27/03/2019 22:23

Thanks, BigChoc. That's a good tool.

Random18 · 27/03/2019 22:23

My MP continues to disappoint. Voted against all, abstained from 1.

Anything to please pm.

I do think he will lose his seat as he seems very unpopular across the board

Horehound · 27/03/2019 22:23

Surely they will need more time than just Monday they're just redoing the votes for reals.
Why woukd they need more time for that?

RedToothBrush · 27/03/2019 22:23

Problem here is that all the softer options are Labour dominated. May's it difficult in terms of arguing cross party or compromise arrangement.

I'm fuming at JC tbh

He’s a basket case.

oldmum22 · 27/03/2019 22:26

Shocking behaviour in Parliament tonight. Whilst it appears that lip service is being carried out to us, the electorate, any winner tonight would not have had legal status , so it was all a bit of a farce IMO. Bercow and his theatrics were very patronising and to be honest doesn't serve any purpose as nobody listens to him . When Anna Soubrey(sp) tried to make a point it felt like I was back in reception class with the headmaster having to take over, and this is democracy !! On another matter TM doesn't look well , I hope she is getting medical advice .
