Westminstenders: Arse about Face

Everything about Brexit seems to have been done wrongly.

Setting red lines to rule out a compromise

The attempt to use executive power to trigger A50, that resulted in a court case

Triggering A50 before knowing what the UK wanted

Agreeing to the backstop before any Tory MP understood the GFA

Appointing a Brexit minister before checking he understood where Dover was.

May going on about NI and pissing off the DUP before they were just about to climb down.

Having a Meaningless Vote repeatedly with a gun to head.

Contempt of Parliament and just general fucking up.

Tonight, 3 days before we were due to leave the HoC finally sat down to decide what Brexit outcomes they thought would be a good idea - more than 2years after that should have happened.

And we now we are told the meaningful vote might be may even more meaningless by being wrapped up in the illusive Withdrawal Agreement Implimentation Bill.

Farce doesn't even cover it.

Anyway Indicative Vote results incoming in approx 15 mins.

That high win for PV will have been noted in Brussels, hopefully.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 22:05

if PV comes out on top Monday, I expect there would be further votes about the choices that should be there

If not, then the winning PD would presumably win
I don't know how much negotiating their would be aboiut the detail of a PD that can't be legally binding.

Probably the EU legal drafting team would start work pretty soon, if a PD wins

Anyway, looks like Monday will be the Big Day .... unless May pulls the plug or something else happens

woman19 · 27/03/2019 22:07

Agree, bigly and tatiana on the revoke vote. Also, non SNP parties have a poor record on supporting SNP motions. I admire Cherry so much.

BercowsSilkTie · 27/03/2019 22:07

Why do they keep voting time and time again? What was the point of tonight if they are going to do it all again on Monday? What is it: keep voting until there's a majority for something?

Wake me up when it's all over.

BiglyBadgers · 27/03/2019 22:07

Roll on monday. I think I'll take the rest of the week off. ;)

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 22:08

I hope the HoC move their schedule so we can have the vote this week, to decide which of the final 2 wins,
because if it is PV, they'll need more time to vote for the possible choices

wheresmymojo · 27/03/2019 22:08

I must say Bercow's tie today is particularly fetching...

NoWordForFluffy · 27/03/2019 22:09

We were talking at work the other day about where the Labour Party went wrong, and it all started when John Smith died, I think, as that allowed TB in.

Peregrina · 27/03/2019 22:09

Ah yes, I see she did stand and came a poor third. Unfortunately that confirms to me the inbuilt macho-ness of the Labour party.

prettybird · 27/03/2019 22:09

We think we're "civilised", polite and courteous as a nation - and out parliament should reflect that.

We're not providing much evidence of that SadAngry

....the behaviour of the UKIP delegation at the EP is just as boorish. But there again, what sort of example have they been set? Angry

On a more positive note, in addition to Richard Ashworth's speech, did anyone see the lovely Alyn Smith's speech? He asked that the EP leave the light on so that Scotland could find its way back Smile I have a wee bit of a crush on Alyn Smith Blush

TheMostBoringPersonEver · 27/03/2019 22:10

I am so confused.
I know I always ask this but can I have dot points on what happens now please?

lonelyplanetmum · 27/03/2019 22:11

But isn't it abstentions that made the difference? Confused.

264 vs 272 customs union ( 536 total)
184 vs 293 revoke ( 477 total)
268 vs 295 public vote ( 563 total)

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 22:11

Bercow It was expected that no option would have a majority
Hence the aim today was to narrow down the options to find probably the favourite 2
and then have a head-to-head vote, to get a majority for something

I hope they aren't going to do a series of knockout rounds instead though - that would be torture Shock and waste too much time.

OublietteBravo · 27/03/2019 22:11

My MP voted for revoke. I have to say his voting record on Brexit is pretty good.

pretty yes moved to tears by that Alyn Smith quote!

Peregrina · 27/03/2019 22:12

We think we're "civilised", polite and courteous as a nation - and our parliament should reflect that.

The million plus of us on Saturday's march were a reflection of that. Can you imagine how many arrests there would have been if Farage or 'Tommy Robinson' had got even a tenth of those numbers?

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 22:13

pretty The behaviour of some Conservative MEPs - the ones who haven't resigned to become Indies -
is disrepectful too.
also, they don't do anything expect posture for the folks back home, whinge and try to block any progress on anything

Looks like (according to dh who is on his laptop rather than me on my phone) it was Labour's abstentions and outright "No" votes that did for the Revoke motion. Angry

Even Alan Duncan voted for it! Shock

This should all have happened before the Referendum.

Except it would have sounded like complete madness to us three years ago.

I hope May now won't dare let no Deal happen, after it got defeated again so heavily,
but that she will instead go with whatever option the HoC choose
