Leavers, I'm a leaver... are you out there

BurpsandHustles · 26/03/2019 20:43

I know this thread will get trolled and spammed with the usual suspects demanding answers from us.

But I'm hoping any leavers out there could ignore them and tell me how their feeling.

Right now I'm wondering who the hell is speaking out for us? It's gone very quiet....

There is some momentum from pro Europe voices... but aside from a damp squib march from farage..does anyone else think it's gone eerily quiet!!

OP posts:

songs constructive, but politically incendiary. This is what I’d like to see too.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 27/03/2019 09:16

Excellent post chocolate

Figmentofmyimagination
Thanks, a well made point.
Tearing something down is always a lot easier than building up.
It is right to strive for things that are better but you have to be pragmatic, something the UK used to be known for, and accept that not everyone will realise their dream, but that with a will, things can improve for many.
The Tories have always been the party of greed and self interest, although Thatcher for example understood that being in the EEC/EU was better for the UK and fought very hard for the UK generally. Many of her other actions went 'off track' but that is politics.

AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo · 27/03/2019 09:27

Do you think prominent Leave campaigners like Boris, Gove (even JRM over the past fortnight) have gone quiet because they realise all their predictions about the E.U. begging us to stay with fantastic trade deals and no costs, China offering us fantastic trade deals (funny how their premier met with Merkel not May yesterday!), all those predictions were wrong. Maybe their quiet because they realise Leave is a bad idea and are trying to distance themselves from it before the inevitable Tory leadership contest and GE.

Butterymuffin · 27/03/2019 09:31

I'd be expecting someone with positive optimism to be speaking out now. And it's silence!!

OP, you've said several times now that Leavers ought to be mentioning all the positives, or alternatively pointing out all the terrible things the EU has said. I've asked you what these might be and you don't answer. Can't you think of any positives, or any terrible things the EU has said? Because it does start to look like they are a comforting idea but don't actually exist.

Random18 · 27/03/2019 09:36

A GE well that could be interesting.

We have essentially been told that 80% of us supported leaving the EU since we voted for either Labour / Tory in 2017.

That will not happen again. I will not support any party that supports Brexit.
I am sure many remainers will do the same.

Not sure how it will pan out ..............

BonnesVacances · 27/03/2019 09:38

Starting with Project Fear and an abuse of tax payers money to fund their campaign

InfiniteSheldon Are you referring to the leaflet that was sent to every household? That was a legal requirement to run a referendum. Govt had to spell out its position. So by following the rules, can’t see how this warrants the label “abuse of tax payers [sic] money”. Hmm

TheElementsSong · 27/03/2019 09:46

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”

1tisILeClerc · 27/03/2019 09:47

The only significant thing incorrect about that government leaflet is that it's wording suggested the significant fall in the value of the Pound would be instant, whereas it took the most serious dive when A50 was triggered some months later.
Although it is not easy to make 'magnolia' sound sexy and exciting, it was correct.
Promises on buses and fine (but hollow) words have all the sincerity of Love Island.

big leave support March scheduled in London for this Saturday

piscis · 27/03/2019 10:27

Look I’m a leaver but I have thought of a way to keep everyone happy.
We stay in,but those that wanted to stay in pay higher taxes that benefit those areas and people that are affected by being in the EU

And what about Britons living abroad (over 1 million britons live in the EU, a majority of them are not workers, they are retired, in Spain for example) what do we do with them? Because as they are not in work, they do not pay taxes. Do you really think is fair that an european working here has to pay more taxes than the average person but a retired briton abroad doesn't have to pay anything at all? You haven't thought that through. Unless you mean that europeans pay more taxes and retired britons abroad are kicked out. But something tells me that you wouldn't agree with that...

bellinisurge · 27/03/2019 10:27

@CabbageHippy , I wonder if it will be as big as the Revoke one.

onalongsabbatical · 27/03/2019 10:49

big leave support March scheduled in London for this Saturday ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I look forward to seeing the hordes and hordes of people limping round Parliament Square on my TV. How many - a dozen? Two? I deserve a good laugh, I'm still a bit tired after marching for People's Vote last weekend. Bring it on leavers.

MuseumofInnocence · 27/03/2019 10:51

My question for leavers is whether you will be happy with any deal that isn’t no deal. Polls seem to suggest no deal is the most popular option among leavers but no responsible politician would support it. As a result, if we leave it will require the sort of compromises we see in the WA. Will you ever be happy ?

ifonly4 · 27/03/2019 10:55

Leave, would vote same again.

Hellenbackagen · 27/03/2019 10:58

Can I point out I not a racist or xenophobic.

But the fear
Of being labelled racist is what stopped a lot of people speaking out on child sexual abuse scandal - simply labelling people for stating the facts as they see them isn't helpful.

I am not a racist.
My political ideologies lean very heavily to the left and I would love to see the benefit of remaining in the eu

I just don't see it.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 27/03/2019 11:12

We have essentially been told that 80% of us supported leaving the EU since we voted for either Labour / Tory in 2017

Would've been nice if they'd mentioned this distortion of the facts before the GE

HazardGhost · 27/03/2019 11:21

Hellen the only benefit of staying in the EU that I can see is the continuing ease of trade with our nearest neighbours which includes medicines and food standards higher than america. It won't get better than that I don't think.

jasjas1973 · 27/03/2019 11:26

My political ideologies lean very heavily to the left and I would love to see the benefit of remaining in the eu

The benefits of EU employment, parental and environmental legislation or trade, FOM for work purposes are clear and if you really are left leaning, then you've a lot more trust in the Tories keeping these, let alone adding to them is far greater than i have.

Are there downsides? yes of course but the UK not implementing EU law on deportation is a UK problem
Staying in the EU and helping reform is a better way forward than an isolationist brexit, we are effectively going back to where we were in the 50s and 60s.
The world was a far less competitive place back then but we still could not prosper on our own and were desperate to join the EEC.

Helmetbymidnight · 27/03/2019 11:29

The Etonian Leavers are on Radio 4, most days, OP.

Other leavers are all over FB - saying 'Britain will always be great because its Great Britain.' And 'We had an Empire once, we'll be fine'.

bellinisurge · 27/03/2019 11:32

"We have essentially been told that 80% of us supported leaving the EU since we voted for either Labour / Tory in 2017"

Which is why I spoiled my ballot paper.

Helmetbymidnight · 27/03/2019 11:35

Do you think our reps have gone suspicious ly quiet!
To be honest I'd be expecting someone with positive optimism to be speaking out now. And it's silence!!

Utterly bizarre. There are leavers on my Radio and TV every single day.

bellinisurge · 27/03/2019 11:41

I heard Andrea Loathsome on R4this morning. There's usually one on every morning. This isn't some celebrity mag, you know. Just because a particular view point does something to get attention, it doesn't mean the other side has gone away or lost or isn't doing anything newsworthy anymore because the fad has passed. This is real grown up stuff not fecking "Strikly".

Random18 · 27/03/2019 11:48

@bellini tempting as it was it wouldn’t have achieved anything in my constituency, not that my vote did anyway.

It’s one of these seats that often can be used to predict how an election will go.

Although last time we disappointingly retained the same MP even though the party lost seats elsewhere

Helmetbymidnight · 27/03/2019 11:58

JRM and Boris were on - JRM said re Mays deal: half a loaf of bread is better than no bread. Quite beautiful considering he and Boris and the ardent Brexiteers will be quite immune from the economic costs of Brexit I think.

Op, what media do you listen to/read or watch which is full of remainers and no leavers?
