Leavers, I'm a leaver... are you out there

I know this thread will get trolled and spammed with the usual suspects demanding answers from us.

But I'm hoping any leavers out there could ignore them and tell me how their feeling.

Right now I'm wondering who the hell is speaking out for us? It's gone very quiet....

There is some momentum from pro Europe voices... but aside from a damp squib march from farage..does anyone else think it's gone eerily quiet!!

OP posts:

My MP voted for no deal. He is a total cock.

Iggly · 27/03/2019 22:26

The last time I checked the uk government was trying to leave the eu.

However, as real as unicorns are, it’s incredibly difficult to negotiate how things will look post leaving because it’s fucking complicated.

That’s the issue.

Leavers are moaning about parliament and self serving politicians yet don’t ask themselves why didn’t those leavers in cabinet come up with a sensible proposal?

Because it’s fucking complicated.

We have to trade with the EU and we want to change the basis for that trading relationship by leaving. Trade deals alone take fucking ages to negotiate.

Because they’re fucking complicated.

And there isn’t an easy answer.

Stop moaning Leavers and accept that to protect the country’s interest, a long game needs to be played.

Two years was never enough.

Also, ask yourself the question - why did the Tories want a referendum? They hate the great unwashed, they don’t actually want the majority to decide on anything. It was always self serving from the beginning.

I am a remainer, but I would like to thank all those who have shared their views on here, I think is is very useful to see where people are coming from and I think this has been a useful thread to understand people better.

So, these plucky 'leavers' get their way and the UK leaves either with or without a deal.
So far, several of the countries that have stuff to trade that the UK wants have already said 'hold on there guys, we need to look at this' and are not promising anything.
Everything that the UK trades with as part of the EU now, has to be renegotiated WITH THE EU, the people that the UK has forced to shell out Billions for preparation work and that the UK is pissing off big time.
If you ask your employer for a pay rise, would you start by smacking them in the face?
After leaving, the EU would like to continue trade with the UK, but it doesn't HAVE to and since the UK will be a 'third country' there is no reason that any trade deals will be 'good' for the UK.
The UK has a population of around 60 Million, which is not many compared to around 7 Billion in the world. Arguing for 'good' trade deals (that are better than we had with the EU and the others in the FTA) will be difficult.

TalkinPaece · 28/03/2019 10:04

Cora
At the moment it is HIGHLY likely that we will leave in two weeks with no deal.
I hope you are delighted.

No, it is very easy to leave the EU.
Cancel all flights and ships, which unfortunately will lead to starvation before long.
Most of the UK trade is via the EU using the WTO trade rules as part of the EU, not the 'no trade deals with anyone' position that dropping out of the EU means. Being generous and saying some rudimentary deals can be thrown together in say 6 - 9 months, how is the UK going to survive 9 months in the 'wilderness'?

1tisILeClerc · 28/03/2019 10:33

For those 'poo pooing' this idea, if you go down to the supermarket but leave your purse at home, do they let you take your bags of shopping home without paying? The LEGAL aspect of 'no deal' is exactly this with everything to do with the EU. Fortunately the EU have said that even with a 'no deal' they won't let the UK starve, but they don't HAVE to, it is not a legal requirement for a 'third country'.

MockerstheFeManist · 28/03/2019 10:38

Stunningly petulant and rude display by Mark Froancois on BBC2 this morning, trying to pick a fight with Victoria Derbyshire and not letting Chukka Ummuna get three words out without interrupting. He is The People. You are all Traitors. Do You Not Understand?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 28/03/2019 12:16

Hazard Flowers

I fully expect 10 to even 30 years of economical hardship while we get on our feet

What kind of person thinks it’s OK to inflict economic hardship on people who are already struggling?

Parker231 · 28/03/2019 12:22

MV3 is listed for debate tomorrow

DarlingNikita · 28/03/2019 12:47

There is not an easy way to Brexit without doing those things. I think this Govt is a complete disaster but that's not their fault.

Of course it is. It isn't Humphrey the fucking cat's fault, is it? They could/should at any point have behaved responsibly and said 'This would cause chaos whichever way you slice it, so we'll consider the result and the lessons learned from it but we will not leave'. Of course politically no fucker was going to say that, but they could and should have.

At the very least they needed to have been working cross-party since BEFORE the result – never mind the minute it came in – to try to a) find consensus and b) mitigate the shitshow as much as possible.

Not surprising headlines in Europe.

Helmetbymidnight · 28/03/2019 13:11

It isn't Humphrey the fucking cat's fault, is it?

Hmmm. Is he a brexitteer?

Yeah, I agree anyway.

I was increasingly annoyed at seeing Brexiteers post things on FB like 'If it weren't for the remainers then everything would be brilliant' - and this doesn't tell half or even quarter of the story but yeah, absolutely, TMay has been abysmal and has certainly made a bad situation ten times worse.

bojosmoralcompass · 28/03/2019 15:07

As someone said upthread the world is now very different to the way it was in the 70's when we joined the EEC, as it then was. The reality is if we are not part of the EU, we will be a relatively insignificant potential trading partner. We will not be adventurers carving out our own destiny in the world, we will have to take what we can get.

DarlingNikita · 28/03/2019 16:02

Helmetbymidnight, apparently Humphrey said on Twitter that the cats were taking over Brexit now.

They might as well, TBH. Although I'm not sure if Humphrey and Palmerston get on. But that's just like the current shower really.

Coppersulphate · 28/03/2019 17:02

Helmet, I am looking forward to :
being out of the EU
to no longer having the ECJ being able to overrule our own courts,
to not being net contributors to their budget.
tohaving a system which controls immigration according to the needs of this country.

Parker231 · 28/03/2019 17:34

@Coppersulphate - are you not concerned about the GFA, the UK supply chain, economic collapse for starters? The UK desperately needs EU immigrants as they contribute so much to the UK (I am one!)

1tisILeClerc · 28/03/2019 17:43

Coppersulphate doesn't give a damn about anyone else.

Parker231 · 28/03/2019 17:49

Am very glad that I’ve kept my EU passport, although it meant I couldn’t vote (even though I’ve lived here since I was five). DH and DC’s have Canadian passports.

Songsofexperience · 28/03/2019 18:00

I wonder how much copper will care about the points s/he raises once we have a full-on brexit-induced depression.
I bet they will seem wonderfully academic by then.

Songsofexperience · 28/03/2019 18:03

They certainly dont justify ruining the lives of so many people.

Football fans - fuck that’s scary.

Londoners stay safe today

Parker231 · 29/03/2019 08:30

I live in central London and marches like the one advertised are scary. I hope the police refuse to allow it/arrest Tommy Robinson. With Britain becoming an even more racist country, it is no longer a good place to live.

Football fans - fuck that’s scary

Eh? Why?
