Westminstenders: Indicative Crossiants

RedToothBrush · 26/03/2019 18:23

Tomorrow the Indicative debate starts at 3pm

The Speaker will choose options to go to vote.

Vote at 7pm for yes or no for each option.

7.30pm The SI debate on extension followed by vote.

Announcement of the indicative vote sometime between 8.15pm and 9.30pm

Meanwhile the DUP have indicated they would prefer a long delay (and presumably EU elections by default) rather than May's deal, in a strange twist of Brexit.

Woke up too early. That reply to the petition is beyond infuriating - it provokes an anger you rarely feel as an adult.

"reduce confidence in our democracy" Ha bloody ha.

A Government that suppresses impact assessments -that undermines confidence in democracy.

A PM who makes a speech that lay aim to pit the public against Parliament - that undermines confidence in democracy.

A government that disrespects Parliamentary process and is held in contempt for the first time in centuries - that undermines confidence in democracy.

A government that panders to a small loony self interested faction within it - that undermines democracy.

A government that buys votes from another small self interested faction - that undermines democracy.

An opposition that doesn't bloody oppose - that undermines democracy.

A Parliament that leaves everything until the last minute - that undermines democracy too.

Remember when the esteemed prescient David Davis said :

" we know from past experience that the EU always leaves agreement to the final moment possible at the 11th hour.”

Ha bloody ha.It's the EU that leaves things until the last minute?!? Really?

Old article just containing DD quote.Prophetic~article~from~Prospect~magazine

Three years and look where we are. Please tell me the stories aren't still leading the voting intention polls?

lonelyplanetmum · 27/03/2019 04:45

Tories not stories. Although current Torys tell nothing but Stories anyway.

mathanxiety · 27/03/2019 04:59

To those with DCs who are experiencing high temps - some small relatives of mine were recently hospitalised suffering from similar symptoms and diagnosed with bona fide flu.

Up too early thinking about it here too. Astonished & furious at the patronising response to the petition.

lonelyplanetmum · 27/03/2019 06:00

Something else you can do about the petition for older relatives or friends who agree but aren't proactive ..you can just complete the initial boxes on the petition with the relative's email and postcode. Then all they have to do is click the link when the email arrives!

PostNotInHaste · 27/03/2019 06:06

I hope all the ill children (and parents) had a more peaceful night Flowers

Am worried about Tegan now Grin Put link on family WhatsApp to cheer DD up as she was really saddened about respond to the petition and said its failed. Told her it absolutely hasn’t. The Petition along with Saturday’s March has given more MPs the courage to speak out. 3 resigned to vote for indicative votes, Revoke now a possibility to be voted on which was pretty much unthinkable @ couple of weeks ago and half the ERG look like they may capitulate plus we’re no longer leaving on Friday.

I feel I need to have another go at my MP who was one of the signatories on the Bill Cash letter. He said in previous letters he wants to leave with A deal but failing that with No Deal clean global exit’ or something like that. However I won’t have any effect as am like a squeaky wheel. Am thinking I could do with encouraging others who feel strongly to contact him as they may make a small impact.

LonelyTiredandLow · 27/03/2019 06:10

Only 2 hours to catch up today!
I was interested in JRM's declaration that he suddenly realised Brexit was a "process rather than an event".
When we all emailed the PM I was keen to point out her speech was misleading leavers into thinking once we are 'out' Brexit will just go away. I chastised her on it as long term this isn't be realistic and would come back to bite the Tory bottom.
I'm glad Mogg vocalised it because his 'word' will be heard and make those leave voters baying for blood pause, with luck, and wonder just how long they can keep this up without needing heart meds Grin

Banks and Fartage's tweets just show they are out of the control room through no one's fault but their own. Yes it's all about their filthy money to them, but I don't think even their 'BeLeavers' actually think they have influence any more.

Flowerplower · 27/03/2019 06:41

The leaver soundbites have got more and more ridiculous, haven't they? Now we have "clean global exit". Do they think they can actually leave the planet? Although that isn't a bad idea actually....I for one would chip in for a rocketship to blast then all into outer space. Maybe their buddy Elon Musk can design it. Obviously a one-way ticket only.

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2019 06:48

Another email saying they’ll debate it. Wtf
Why say no never going to happen then debate?

Agree with pp at annoyance rarely felt

Holidayshopping · 27/03/2019 07:04

Does anyone know if petitions are frozen/removed (so the numbers stop being added) once they are debated?

If it’s pulled on Monday once it’s been ‘debated’ (a farce because they’ve already emailed everyone saying they’re not doing it) then it will never get to 17 million!

Songsofexperience · 27/03/2019 07:04

Now we have "clean global exit

In 20 years, when climate chaos causes actual famines, we'll be thoroughly fucked being out there alone with no friends. Maybe the US in its infinite kindness will spare us a few bags of rice and chicken past the use by date.

Songsofexperience · 27/03/2019 07:08

I'm pretty annoyed this morning having read various articles about the collapse in insect numbers around the world and watched the BBC's Our World about permanent drought in Australia.
A proper existential global crisis is underway and what's happening here?? We get OUT of possibly the most successful international cooperation of all time. It's ridiculous.

Songsofexperience · 27/03/2019 07:12

It's going to get brutal in so many ways and being isolated will give us zero leverage with anyone.

LonelyTiredandLow · 27/03/2019 07:12

I think if we were hearing more about what we are doing as a country that will benefit us after Brexit - seeing as most of us think it will happen eventually - i'd have more 'faith' in the future. If, for example, we were seeing farmers being supported by our govt/land given over for crops we usually import, a new recycling plant built here and there, de-salination plants for our water shortages etc...a few billion should cover it. In reality there's no need for Trident any more, we aren't part of a super power so have no onus to protect anyone on a big scale and on our own we aren't worth invading. Maybe scrapping that would be a first step to us opting out of international politics as that is where we seem to be heading? If anything like this were happening I might, MIGHT have a slightly different hope for the outcome.

As it is we are just confounding the issues that lead to Brexit in the first place. Over spending on cheap fixes, soundbites and lack of forethought.

RevokeRemainRebuild · 27/03/2019 07:12

I've never felt such despair and actual fear of the government before. Their contempt for parliament is chilling.

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2019 07:20

Letwin was good on R4

Songsofexperience · 27/03/2019 07:22

Over spending on cheap fixes, soundbites and lack of forethought.

Indeed... and the point I was trying to make earlier is that now is the time to plan for the difficult patch ahead. Can we trust people to do that who systematically put the interests of literally a handful of elite rich men ahead of the well-being of the nation and its future prosperity (cause THEY're the elite, not me because I sometimes shop at Waitrose).

Peregrina · 27/03/2019 07:22

Theresa May has struggled in Brexitt negotiations because she lacks “the basic human skills to be a political leader”,

I thought that from her very first PMQs. A good leader has to be able to form relationships with people and draw out the best from them. Otherwise you get the sort of dictatorial behaviour we see. Someone more perceptive than she is would have realised this.

Peter Kyle says Jeremy Corbyn WILL order Labour MPs to back his and Phil Wilson's motion pledging that any Brexit deal passed by the Commons must be put to the public in a confirmatory referendum. #r4today

wherearemychickens · 27/03/2019 07:28

Yes a Brexit with a focus on local food production, a Green deal to replace manufacturing losses in the car industry, supporting a rewilding of uplands to replace all the sheep and growing wildlife tourism... Those are things I could support. Not going to happen under this government though is it?

wherearemychickens · 27/03/2019 07:30

Turning our coastal waters into protection zones, no dredging allowed.

BercowsSilkTie · 27/03/2019 07:32

Morning all. Red hope your dc is better this morning. My little one is bright as a button but was yesterday too. Just very hot, dreadful cough and tired and quiet.
I suspect the kitkat stash may be demolished today. Are things happening with votes and meetings all day?

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2019 07:36

Is revoke on the list to be voted on? Then how can they say no already.

LonelyTiredandLow · 27/03/2019 07:36

I'm hopeful (when in a good mood) that perhaps the two main parties have so pissed off the gen public through this that there will be a wild swing to Libs/Greens in the next GE. I think that a coalition of them would be amazing. TIG's would be good too but not enough of them yet.

As my friend who works in Env Science said, if we keep the Tories we will be completely screwed. I don't really see what their long term aim is, as they have pissed off businesses, made it harder to trade and the public will have less to spend meaning basic wages will have to go up again. I know some have made millions, but the idea of Tories as being the party for business is well and truly extinct.

OutwithMyRemit · 27/03/2019 07:39

I read on here a few weeks ago that the Tories believe themselves to be "the natural party of power". I agree and i think that's (at least partly) why they keep getting elected no matter what. They assume they'll be in charge and (some) people like that arrogance confidence.
