Westminstenders: Indicative Crossiants

RedToothBrush · 26/03/2019 18:23

Tomorrow the Indicative debate starts at 3pm

The Speaker will choose options to go to vote.

Vote at 7pm for yes or no for each option.

7.30pm The SI debate on extension followed by vote.

Announcement of the indicative vote sometime between 8.15pm and 9.30pm

Meanwhile the DUP have indicated they would prefer a long delay (and presumably EU elections by default) rather than May's deal, in a strange twist of Brexit.

Boris will have to work hard to overcome the man of sideline jibes and provocation and actually lead if he does

Littlespaces · 27/03/2019 19:11

I'm very confused. Headache.

How can May promise to step down when her WA goes through, if Bercow has said the rules prevent it?

And why will the Tories ignore the Indicative votes?

keepforgettingmyusername · 27/03/2019 19:11

Just when you think we might be getting somewhere TM scuppers it all again.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 27/03/2019 19:11

Nothing says I care deeply about the people more than Johnson basically shitting all over them in order to get another shot at being pm.

Holidayshopping · 27/03/2019 19:11

If someone signed up as a Tory party member now, would they be eligible for a vote in an upcoming leadership election? Asking for a friend...

I thought it was only Tory MPs who voted for the leader?

BiglyBadgers · 27/03/2019 19:13

How can May promise to step down when her WA goes through, if Bercow has said the rules prevent it?

It's one of those promises isn't it...a bit like I promise to give you all a billion pounds as soon as I become Queen of England.

TiddleTaddleTat · 27/03/2019 19:13

@Littlespaces they have stated as such. No decision is binding. Do we expect to see clear majorities for particular versions of Brexit this evening? I'm hopeful but I think it's unlikely

Calamapo · 27/03/2019 19:13

The membership vote when it's been whittled down to two options. I think.

TheMShip · 27/03/2019 19:14

Rumour that Steve Baker's vote for WA is in play on guardian live blog, but this is disputed.

According to my colleague Dan Sabbagh, talks of Steve Baker being open to backing Theresa May’s deal (see 7.10pm) sound premature.

Boris switched to back the deal at ERG but a source adds "No way that deal is getting out the room". Baker spoke against the deal, received a standing ovation, and was hugged by colleagues. Early estimates 30 still against the deal

Boris will waffle on about ' being pragmatic'
Blah blah.

drivinmecrazy · 27/03/2019 19:14

IF the WA sneaks through by skulduggery and coercion, what would happen if a motion of no confidence in the government was called?

wheresmymojo · 27/03/2019 19:14

Yep...Calampo has it.

MPs choose two contenders - they go forward to a vote by membership.

BercowsSilkTie · 27/03/2019 19:16

Pass the kitkats please!!

Horehound · 27/03/2019 19:17

What time are the votes?

LonelyTiredandLow · 27/03/2019 19:18

How can May promise to step down when her WA goes through, if Bercow has said the rules prevent it? - she doesn't know it will as they are still trying to amend it sufficiently. It's the provision to her resignation - if it doesn't go through she won't be held to resign and would potentially be in for a longer haul.

And why will the Tories ignore the Indicative votes? Fox and TM said they wouldn't be "bound" by whatever Parliament decides and sign a free cheque...so we can take them with a pinch of salt in their eyes. Whether Bercow has something to say about that later however...

CordeliaEarhart · 27/03/2019 19:19

Are JRM and BoJo just the acceptable public face of ERG? So the lesser known ones are perhaps more hardline and will not compromise?

As for the DUP - I just don't understand why they would vote for it.

LonelyTiredandLow · 27/03/2019 19:20

Also re indicative votes Grieve said yesterday that if there were doubt that they were being implemented/listened to another Bill would be passed to ensure they would. Again, seems like a lack of forward planning here.

PostNotInHaste · 27/03/2019 19:21

So was it Stephen Barclay who vanished at the end of debate who Bercow was looking to close it ?

I could have been ok about the WA but am not now given we wouldn’t know who would be leading next phase and am coming round to PV as some powerful speeches for it this afternoon.

DeRigueurMortis · 27/03/2019 19:22

If the Tories do bring in BoJo as leader are they not breaking an immutable (albeit unspoken) rule of British politics, namely that only one political party at a time can be headed by a self indulgent, feckless individual and that Corbyn already has the job?

AutumnCrow · 27/03/2019 19:22

C4's Cathy N giving Rees-Mogg a grilling.

AutumnCrow · 27/03/2019 19:24

Now interviewing N Morgan, Jess P and Soubry (C4)

The80sweregreat · 27/03/2019 19:25

I can't see my mp voting for it!

PostNotInHaste · 27/03/2019 19:25

Horehound they are voting now and I think results due at 9pm but could be wrong.

LonelyTiredandLow · 27/03/2019 19:26

'Tory psycho drama' Jess Phillips is right.
