If anyone says they know what will happen this week....

... They don't.

Could we tack neighbouring counties onto Wessex please. I need to feel included in something approaching sanity.

The KIngdom of the South West?

BigChocFrenzy · 25/03/2019 16:15

Tom McTague@TomMcTague

As Nick sets out here, there are two tests in play this week:

1) Is there a majority for anything (unlikely)

  1. Which will have more support: the PM's deal or (insert alternative plan)? ....... Nick Boles MP@NickBoles

If any Brexit compromise were to achieve a majority - and this is likely to take several goes - it would not be legally binding.

But the PM has not managed to win more than 242 votes in favour of her deal so it would have huge political force.

BiglyBadgers · 25/03/2019 16:16

can we make Old Sarum the capital of Wessex again

Oh, interesting choice. I was thinking Winchester, but am open to negotiation. We can add it to the agenda of the first meeting.

pepinana · 25/03/2019 16:17

Can someone explain to the ignorant (me), what all this means? Is she allowed to adjust ignore indicative votes?

In short, is there literally nothing, short of voting for her deal, that parliament can do to prevent No Deal?

DGRossetti · 25/03/2019 16:17

I'm no fan of the monarchy but surely if you're going to have one the least they can do is step in when the prime minister is lost all contact with reasonable logic and sense.

When all this is said and done. with the Union gone. the monarchy will be next. Since I was little it was sold to me - against increasingly republican views - as what ensures stability in the UK from government to government. Now that's been shown to be a crock of shit, I'm not quite so relaxed about a hereditary monarchy. Unless anyone can suggest a bigger peacetime crisis (and I am painfully aware of the qualification of "peacetime" in that sentence) in the past 100 years ?

pepinana · 25/03/2019 16:17

That should say just, not adjust!

BiglyBadgers · 25/03/2019 16:18

The KIngdom of the South West?

Happy for others to join, but not so hot on this whole Kingdom business as this surely implies a King being involved somewhere. A hereditory dictator seems like the last thing we need right now.

dreichuplands · 25/03/2019 16:18

What is TM's actual plan? Other than ignoring what parliament say? She doesn't want to agree to no deal, any parliamentary deal and can't get her deal through. What does she think will happen?

MyNameIsArthur · 25/03/2019 16:18

Just had a brief look at the 2017 Conservative manifesto. Am not sure it has delivered much of what it promised especially as all its focus has been on Brexit

67chevvyimpala · 25/03/2019 16:18

How does one email her maj?

no I cant believe I'm considering it, either!

yolofish · 25/03/2019 16:20

well on a quick search, it is impossible to email the Queen or even members of the family/household and she wont respond on political issues anyway, which is fine - dont expect a response, but would be nice to think she was aware of the the nation's concerns (and I am sure she is). I'm not a great monarchist either, but I do like HMQ and think she prob has a better grasp of politics than the current shitshower in the HoC.

DGRossetti · 25/03/2019 16:20

But the PM has not managed to win more than 242 votes in favour of her deal so it would have huge political force.

Ah, they old "we didn't actually win by a majority, but the loss was small enough that we can pretend we did" trick ? If so, I'm disappointed in Treeza. I spotted that two, three weeks ago ?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 25/03/2019 16:20

I think she is trying to strong arm the brexiteers into supporting WA by threatening “slow” /lengthy extension Brexit.

TalkinPaece · 25/03/2019 16:22

Actually BiglyBadgers is right
Winchester has much better pubs Grin
The ancient capital, with the round table still on the wall

BiglyBadgers · 25/03/2019 16:23

Surely at some point someone is going to have to call another vote of no confidence as it appears getting rid of May and the government is the only way we can possibly get any decision made no she has decided she'll just ignore anything parliament decides that isn't her deal.

DGRossetti · 25/03/2019 16:23

but I do like HMQ and think she prob has a better grasp of politics than the current shitshower in the HoC

Enjoying the irony, here's the Express:

www.express.co.uk/news/royal/370801/Her-Majesty-will-see-you-now-The-Queen-s-weekly-audiences-with-the-PM-revealed

...
One popular misconception might be that it’s a polite chat, over scones or sherry, with the PM checking his or her watch, wanting to get on with more important business. But as Margaret Thatcher said: “Anyone who imagines that they are a mere formality, or confined to social niceties, is quite wrong, they are quietly businesslike and Her Majesty brings to bear a formidable grasp of current issues and breadth of experience.”

The Queen reads each of her red ministerial boxes every day, is privy to the minutes from every Cabinet meeting, has a generous staff to keep her informed and is scrupulously prepared for every meeting.

IN CIVIL service circles, she is known as “Reader No 1”. A meeting with Her Majesty, therefore, is like a meeting with a well-briefed civil servant. If transcripts of the audience were to exist I’m confident she would emerge with some credit.

Sorry if posted already!

Sam Coates Times
@SamCoatesTimes
Theresa May just appeared to rule out no deal unless majority for the Commons agrees

“Unless this house agrees to it no deal will not happen”

Feels like a significant statement

67chevvyimpala · 25/03/2019 16:24

Yeah....pointless really.

Holidayshopping · 25/03/2019 16:24

So what now then?

No MV3 yet?

Indicative (but not binding) votes next? Are these different to tonight’s votes?

Why are tonight’s votes starting so late?!

Holidayshopping · 25/03/2019 16:25

“Unless this house agrees to it no deal will not happen”

Surely all she’s saying is, ‘vote for my deal or you’re getting No Deal and it’s your own fault, not mine!’?

DarlingNikita · 25/03/2019 16:25

PMK. What's going on then?

icannotremember · 25/03/2019 16:25

I have never been so confused in all my life

67chevvyimpala · 25/03/2019 16:25

She's a fucking despot.

Camomila · 25/03/2019 16:26

PMK

Watching BBC news is made slightly more fun/bearable by watching it with a preschooler.
"Its a church"
"No, other buildings have benches... Its a parliament. That's their work"
"Ah, its for mummy's. I want one for big children"
Also, we have gummy worms.

I'm very confused, she's allowing indicative votes but whipping against them Confused
