If anyone says they know what will happen this week....

... They don't.

May is not saying anything other than vote for my deal. I don't think she has a clue what to do if MV111 is voted down. I think she's winging it day to day, hour to hour.

DGRossetti · 25/03/2019 16:39

Am I understanding correctly? May is effectively saying that Parliament is meaningless and she will do what she wants?

In the absence of a failed confidence vote, she is - technically - correct. Unless or until someone challenges a decision she has made in the courts.

What we are seeing is the abuse of an unwritten constitution we have repeatedly been told is perfect because what is happening "could never happen". (Usually with a snarky patronising comment about somewhere foreign).

This is where complacency gets you.

MockerstheFeManist · 25/03/2019 16:41

The ONLY possible capital of Free Wessex is the Mighty New Metrollops of Christchurch-Bournemouth-Poole.

BiglyBadgers · 25/03/2019 16:41

But now she has apparently said that No deal is still on the table. So she hasn't ruled it out despite parliament having voted against. Honestly, she's just making shit up as she goes along.

SusanWalker · 25/03/2019 16:42

I'm up for moving to Wessex. I went to Bath uni and quite often think I would move to Bath if I won the lottery.

LarkDescending · 25/03/2019 16:42

Is her strategy simply this?:

  1. Whip against everything that isn't WA.
  2. Having defeated everything that isn't WA, then bring back WA for MV3.
  3. If MV3 then fails - no deal is "not her fault".

Email from Jeremy Hunt in response to mine, telling him I signed the petition:

Thank you for writing about your concerns about the Brexit process.

In many ways the debate in parliament reflects the divisions in the country but the situation is exacerbated because as I may have emailed you previously no party has a majority in parliament which means that all sides in the debate (strong Remainers worried about no deal, strong Brexiteers worried about this deal, the DUP and the Labour Party) are exploiting the fragility of the government’s majority to maximise their leverage – but the penny seems to be dropping finally that unless we come together as a parliament and as a country the outcome will be far worse for all of us.

Most people – and most of my constituents – respect the referendum result and want to get on with but also want to avoid the potential disruption of no deal. With the new delay agreed by the EU last week, that is within our grasp within the next three weeks. So I strongly believe we must see the bigger picture and vote for the deal we have - and make sure we deliver on our democratic duty to respect a referendum that parliament itself chose to allow.

That is what I will be working hard to achieve both as foreign secretary and as your MP.

Thank you again for writing.

It sounds like they spent the afternoon getting their stories straight...

Whoever wrote it needs to give some urgent attention to their punctuation and grammar. Lowly little me can get away with slips, but the Foreign Sec. has a reputation to uphold Smile

bellinisurge · 25/03/2019 16:43

I agree with @SusanWalker . She's winging it. She has obviously picked up some advice from somewhere about appealing directly to the people- like Trump and Twitter. She isn't much good at being a Parliamentarian and certainly hasn't got a Plan B. Her plan is to make it "My Deal Brexit or Fucking Disaster Brexit " because it is the only way to get WA through.

BiglyBadgers · 25/03/2019 16:43

The ONLY possible capital of Free Wessex is the Mighty New Metrollops of Christchurch-Bournemouth-Poole.

We haven't even had our first campaign meeting and we already have a disagreement about the capital.

I do like Free Wessex though. Very rousing.

TokyoSushi · 25/03/2019 16:43

PMK, I am currently homeless and have no garden (don't ask) your sunlit uplands are fabulous @prettybird

DGRossetti · 25/03/2019 16:44

Most people – and most of my constituents – respect the referendum result

Over 5 million people - 20 times your constituents - don't.

DGRossetti · 25/03/2019 16:44

She has obviously picked up some advice from somewhere about appealing directly to the people- like Trump and Twitter

And a 5 million plus signature petition against her was the result.

MockerstheFeManist · 25/03/2019 16:44

Shall we claim Oxford?

Thomas Hardy had it in his Wessex.

BiglyBadgers · 25/03/2019 16:45

Maybe we shouldn't have a single capital at all. We could move the seat of parliament around in order to increase accessibility for the good people of Free Wessex.

LarkDescending · 25/03/2019 16:45

She didn't (when I watched that bit live) say in terms "no deal is still on the table" - she attempted to fend off Blunt's criticism of her for (as he understood her statement) ruling out No Deal by saying Labour were always criticising her for not ruling out No Deal.

In the usual way, she was avoiding the point of the question.

Yamayo · 25/03/2019 16:46

Sounds like she's sulking because no-one wants her deal and is holding the country hostage as a result.

PostNotInHaste · 25/03/2019 16:46

I don't care about where the capital is , I just want my freedom from the shackles of the undemocratic UK and I want it now.

Highly · 25/03/2019 16:47

First time poster /long term lurker on here

So does all this mean no deal is more likely? When will we know one way or another?
My nerves are shot with all this!

CoffeeRunner · 25/03/2019 16:48

I have a sneaky feeling that TM will be resigning very soon. Probably if the third vote is either permanently ruled out or fails.

She is clearly saying she will not support or “do” anything else. So to me, that means she’s planning to either deliver Brexit with the WA or say “fuck it” and walk away.

Tanith · 25/03/2019 16:50

I think it means she's hedging her bets, Highly.

golondrina · 25/03/2019 16:50

Pmk

MockerstheFeManist · 25/03/2019 16:51

In a caravan of Dorset Shepherd's Huts?

Hardy's Birthday, 2nd June, great time for a bank holiday/national day.

National Anthem? XTC or Portshead?

Parliament does not want the Deal.

Parliament does not want No Deal.

The only other ultimate outcome is therefore revocation.

There is no other ultimate outcome for Brexit.

UK politics is currently an exercise in mass delusion that revocation is somehow not all that is left.
