I promise I won’t ask you anymore questions or it turn into a slanging match, you are untitled to your opinion.
I don’t know anyone of my friends who voted leave, the odd acquaintance who voted leave “because they didn’t really understand” but the people I am friendly with all seem to be remianers. We are in our 30s and to teaching, sales and banking type jobs. Dh is a solicitor and all do law in one form.
I was wondering if certain sectors voted leave generally and if what you did for a living influenced your leave vote, and if you could possibly explain why the leave vote would benefit your sector. I am not here to judge at all just trying to understand

I didn't but the two members of my family who did are an estate agent (wanted to get their country back) and a data analyst thingy (concerned about the EU's apparent lack of democracy).

My dad’s a carpenter and he voted leave because he felt the influx of European cheap labour was making it difficult to get work and lowering wages. He’s now been out of work for 3 months as no one seem to be investing in his industry to create the jobs in the first place 🙄

Bishalisha · 22/03/2019 19:17

I obviously said his reasoning in a much more polite way than he does.

RugbyRugby · 22/03/2019 19:18

Not me but I know four lawyers who voted leave.

Abouttime · 22/03/2019 19:18

Accountant. My friend is a physiotherapist

ATailofTwoKitties · 22/03/2019 19:19

Friend here who voted Leave is a gardener. He says he voted out because he was 'sick of fannying about with EU Health and Safety nonsense'.

He may be saying that just to wind me up, though.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 22/03/2019 19:19

My leave voting “friend” is a housewife and her DH a retired policeman.

CatGoals · 22/03/2019 19:20

Company manager (x3)
Educational Psychologist

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-politics-36616028

This is full of charts, graphs and commentary on the breakdown of the voters, and to quote:

"As well as age, educational attainment and national identity were also key factors in how the UK voted."

ItsInTheSpoon · 22/03/2019 19:22

Leavers I know: farmers, small food business owner, financial advisor, administrator, plumbing & heating engineer... includes people with degrees and people not old... not a load of racist thickos

MonicaGB · 22/03/2019 19:22

The person I know who voted leave works for the NHS. Which for me is like a turkey voting for Christmas.

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 19:25

Leave voters in my family that I know for sure, one is a senior teacher, one is a chemical engineer . I live in a strong leave voting area so - it's a range from archetypal Free Tommy Robinson types to office workers and paralegals.

SingingLily · 22/03/2019 19:25

Prison governor.

Shookethtothecore · 22/03/2019 19:26

Thank you for that link I’ll have a look. I expected tradespeople, farmers, fisherman, hualage firms to be high up the list of leavers a they have been very vocal but tbh I don’t understand why so vocal? Are they restricted by eu laws or something?
Mixed bag of people really. I’m assuming then that people’s work isn’t really effected by the eu and there was other reasons for voting

I'm an office manager and OH is a general manager in a logistics company. I know very few people in my circle of friends who voted Remain.

The retired people I know voted remain

iMatter · 22/03/2019 19:31

I think they (genuinely) think that things were better in the "old days".

Selective memory or rose tinted glasses imvho but they really do seem to believe it.

Shookethtothecore · 22/03/2019 19:32

is the logistics industry impacted by the eu regulations a lot?

OP posts:
Coppersulphate · 22/03/2019 19:33

Apart from the one retired person the others are all in their 30s or 40s, so remembering "the good old days" is not something they relate to.

bobiana · 22/03/2019 19:33

All but one leave voter I know are retired.

The one I know who isn’t retired is a programmer. He voted leave, and then immediately regretted his vote when the pound tanked, and the NHS thing was back pedalled on the very next day.

bobiana · 22/03/2019 19:36

think they (genuinely) think that things were better in the "old days".

I’ve never understood why they think voting to leave the EU is going to turn back time.
