Road Block Protests Planned.

Has anyone else seen the national planned pro-brexit road block protests?

I'm slightly concerned about this if they do pull it off. I am going to be stuck in traffic for hours!

There are also plans for fishermen to block shipping ports.

What has the nation come to, what utter chaos :(

No I haven't seen anything about this?

What do they have to be annoyed about, they're going to get their hard brexit for sure!

1tisILeClerc · 21/03/2019 20:42

The organisers are hardly the 'brains trust'.
Most trucks are fleet owned so the employers are unlikely to be wishing to get too involved. Owner drivers will be spending loads on diesel for what?

doIreallyneedto · 21/03/2019 20:55

How French Wink

Ellie56 · 21/03/2019 22:06

They are protesting about Brexit being delayed.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 22/03/2019 08:12

Does this mean that they did want to get involved in the fuel protests? Or was the structure of the industry different back then, did the drivers own their trucks?

MrPan · 22/03/2019 08:28

Oddly, this is obvs a sort of 'Project Fear'.......reverse.

So the idea is that the 'protesters' wish to over turn the process of democracy, which they are also earnestly defending???

MrPan · 22/03/2019 08:29

Also...OP, where did you come across these plans? Tell us.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 22/03/2019 08:40

Yeah this is predicted near us. My comment was that Brexiteers have to go in the slow lane because that’s how their brains work....

BIWI · 22/03/2019 08:41

Is there a link to any of this? Or is it just gossip and speculation?

FishesaPlenty · 22/03/2019 09:03

It's not 'predicted' by anyone, it's claimed by the ignorant twat who's trying to organise it. www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/a55-brexit-demo-leader-used-15996012

I think you may be overstating his intelligence!

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 09:19

Unless it's a properly approved demonstration, they would be committing a public or offence and/or a driving offence. If the police aren't too busy with people's use of pronouns, the fuckers risk committing an offence. Which is probably what they want. As Nige is already a "person of interest " in the Mueller investigation, he'd be running out of places to hide. Ecuador embassy with his mate, probably.

TheElementsSong · 22/03/2019 09:35

I saw it on Twitter thanks to somebody from MN, sorry I forgot which poster Blush. They're threatening to blockade all major motorways and arterial routes with a go-slow. All these angry Brexiteers saying that their aim was to "bring the country to its knees" - how very patriotic and civic-minded Hmm

I have my doubts as to how much disruption they could cause (how many will really participate as opposed to bloviating on the internet?) and as bellini said they'll probably be dealt with fairly firmly by the police if they're seriously trying to shit up the motorways - could cause serious accidents so this is life-threateningly nasty stuff which any decent human being should be ashamed of.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 22/03/2019 09:37

It is predicted. My local paper had warnings of when and where it is going to happen near us. How is this not s prediction? Or a warning?

FishesaPlenty · 22/03/2019 09:55

Yes, the same story has been run in local papers all over the country. Nobody's actually 'predicting' it except for the obnoxious twat who sent boilerplate press releases to all the papers.

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 10:01

They just want to take TV attention away from the massive PV march on Saturday. Interesting to see a) if it comes to anything and b) whether the actions of a few dicks is given equal coverage "for balance "

CoachBombay · 22/03/2019 11:52

Sorry for coming back so late to discuss.

So having seen a few more posts about it. Road blockages are due to begin this evening. As long as they allow emergency vehicles to pass, other than being stopped and their car inspected if it has no MOT etc there is no minimum driving limit legally enforceable.

So if they crawl at 5mph but allow emergency vehicles to pass they can't really be stopped!

There is now a major plan to disrupt the coaches for the people's vote. The people's vote have publicised all the "pick up points" so they are now being targeted.

Fishing/Ferry and shipping ports also have planned disruption by fishermen and owners of small vessels and again there is nothing but the port authorise who can deal with them and they have no legal binding ability to stop them.

If they do pull this off, which I still have my reservations about to be honest, this could be absolute chaos!

I've received an email at work from senior people advising they've heard about this and for staff to be aware and prepared.

CoachBombay · 22/03/2019 11:59

I'm getting anxious..and I'm not normally an anxious person.

17million people voted leave, not all have changed their minds, a large proportion still want leave. If only 10% of 17million set out to block roads, protest, riot that's still 1.7million people causing trouble. If you put UKIP, EDL, BNP, Neo Nazi sympathasiers and other far right groups collectively together...you won't fall short by much of that number. It is probably fair to say that 5-10% of leave supporters have far right thinking ideology and they now have a united cause.

One poor MP lost her life last time tensions were this high, what will they do now, in their minds they have won and government is attempting to take that away.

What if millions more join them, leave means leave they are convinced, there's no stopping it.

Oh god I'm in a panic an absolute panic...I genuinely can't cope with this with my PTSD.

They won't. Have you been paying attention to the Leave Means Leave march?

havingtochangeusernameagain · 22/03/2019 12:08

Apparently they are starting on the M25 around 3pm today. We'll see. I need to go on the M25 tomorrow morning and I refuse to change my plans because of these idiots. Why are lorry drivers so keen on Brexit anyway? Do they want to spend hours in queues? Turkeys and Christmas come to mind.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/03/2019 12:13

It actually is a driving offence to be driving so slowly as to cause a danger to other road users (the reason tractors can't go on motorways etc, as their slow speed isn't suitable for that type of road). The police can legitimately pull them over / herd them off the motorway.

CoachBombay · 22/03/2019 12:16

Can you guarantee that a few thousand right wing nut jobs aren't going to cause absolute chaos! These are dangerous people, consequences of the law mean nothing to them, and they know full well you can't arrest everyone in a riot.

I think I need to delete my TOR. There is far too much worrying information there.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 22/03/2019 12:21

Of course I can't. But, also, I can't imagine there are that many people wanting to spend their weekend driving slowly on the motorway.

Also, ifyou consider that many lorries on the road are from large fleets such as Stobart, I can't see these joining in as the companies wouldn't allow it.

CoachBombay · 22/03/2019 12:26

It doesn't always take 3 lorries to block a motorway. Just 3 vehicles, anyone with a car could do it.

If they get the numbers provided old plod can only pull a car at a time in a convoy, and what when the front 3 are pulled what's to stop the next 3. People are saying any vehicles to be used.

I mean don't get me wrong I hope it falls flat on its face. But if it doesn't and they disrupt the travel plans for the people's vote, what do you think a gang of far right activist with a bus load of sitting ducks are going to do, wave at the bus? No they are going to hurl bricks and shit at it.

Friends were planned to get on a people's vote bus this weekend but they've messaged to say it's a no go now, given what's planned. They don't want to be caught up in a civil clash.
