Really mummmy2017? Where's that?

Peregrina · 22/03/2019 11:11

No one on this thread has said that Pets are signing - well only mummmy2017.

Trekkingbeyond · 22/03/2019 11:13

I've written to no 10, great link!

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2019 11:14

One of the threads today, school children all said they have signed it, so the figures are distorted

Trekkingbeyond · 22/03/2019 11:15

I've got lots of friends who are far better educated than me and yet who are totally disengaged with the whole Brexit debate, they find it boring and shut down conversation. One of them accused me of being obsessed (she's possibly right) but she never mentions it, dying to know what she voted - I actually suspect that she didn't at all.....

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/03/2019 11:16

I think Mummy2017 missed the sarcasm when someone said 'I'll get my cats and dogs to sign it, shall I?'

TheElementsSong · 22/03/2019 11:16

So funny, mumsnetters have admitted the children, even pets are signing...

I'm just going to clarify for those who might have fallen for this nonsense, that I noted one post on the "kids signing petitions" thread which mentioned pets signing. This was written in a sarcastic tone, but a poster who (when I did an AS) appears to have a pro-Brexit (or at least anti-Remain) stance.

Trekkingbeyond · 22/03/2019 11:17

mummy2017 well there is a little poetic justice in that if it's true as it will be today's school children who will be massively affected by Brexit...

PerkingFaintly · 22/03/2019 11:18

I'm not on the electoral roll at the moment as I've just moved.

When I clicked the confirmation link, the petition site acknowledged my signature and suggested I register to vote.

So I'm guessing any children and pets not on the electoral roll will be noted.Grin

icannotremember · 22/03/2019 11:20

mummy2017's evidence for anything is that she believes it.

Songsofexperience · 22/03/2019 11:20

This whole democracy debate has really gone 1984 on us. Only leave voters who voted once (very specific) are worthy of vote. Damn the rest. In the thread mummmy refers to, a couple of people said their teenagers signed. It's their future at stake.
If the ref of 2016 had been conducted properly we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. Cameron thought no need to make it legally binding with stricter rules on the majority result, fobbed off the Scots when they pointed out the majority should be across all UK nations for it to be binding and he then had the gall to commit to whatever mess/ result. That dishonest approach plus the infamous bus campaign and a non existent complacent remain 'campaign' put us there. Plus dark money activating far right US & Russian trolls all over social media! Not to mention the horrible poster confusing refugees with legal immigration through FOM.
Forgive me if I think today's petition is still a very good tool to measure public frustration even if a few teens sign up as well.

There it is at the top of the page
Contact the Prime Minister - Great Britain and Northern Ireland

HumblePi · 22/03/2019 11:23

Is this just a case of slactivism?
Just been reading an article on the New Statesman and apparently none of the biggest online petitions have had any effect / success.

Noextremes2017 · 22/03/2019 11:23

Probably already been asked on here but is anybody running a 'get rid of Theresa May' petition?

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2019 11:23

Oh come on, how many of you have a single email, and no more?
Do you really thing people are that principaled that they are are resisting, when it is a known fact people have admitted in here to using a postal vote, then going to the polls as well..!
Also if school children are voting, then getting to 17 million means nothing...

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 22/03/2019 11:25

It's going to hit 3 million soon. That's almost a million signatures in 12 hours!

Afineexample · 22/03/2019 11:26

One of the threads today, school children all said they have signed it, so the figures are distorted

Not really? There's no age limit on it. It's not a legally binding vote, just a signal to the government.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 22/03/2019 11:26

Given that over 16 million people voted remain, its not all that shocking that nearly 3 million have signed this petition is it? Why do people think its fake?

Trekkingbeyond · 22/03/2019 11:29

Mummy there are 4 of us in our household over 16 and 4 of us have signed. No more and no dodgy email addresses. I will be marching tomorrow and marched last October no doubt we were all just figments of your imagination then too? All 700,000 and I bet there are even more tomorrow. I also bet that for every one person that marches there are 4 more who wish they could get there too.

Afineexample · 22/03/2019 11:29

You can't vote and postal vote- your name is removed from the list at the polling station. You can present your postal vote at the polling station, though.
Also, this is an online petition, not a legally binding vote. It doesn't much matter if people sign it once, twice or a million times- the government will do fuck all. But it does signal peoples views, which have been ignored somewhat since 2016 in the cries of "we won" "get over it" and "FREEEEEEDOM".

CaptainSquirrel · 22/03/2019 11:30

It's perfectly possible for schoolchildren to sign the no deal petition as well. And loads of the other petitions on the site. Seems a little churlish to castigate people doing something they're perfectly entitled to do and that indeed is as envisaged by the website's creators.

Peregrina · 22/03/2019 11:34

when it is a known fact people have admitted in here to using a postal vote, then going to the polls as well..!

I very much doubt it - there is very little electoral fraud of that sort in this country. The Postal voters are already marked off on the register. It is possible to go and hand your postal vote in at the polling station, if you realise that the post won't get there in time. For example, if you applied for a postal vote because you thought you might not get back from holiday in time, the post comes while you are away, and then you get back on the day of the vote.

Peregrina · 22/03/2019 11:36

Cross post with Afineexample. We might just know something of electoral law mummmy2017 which you appear not to do.

DioneTheDiabolist · 22/03/2019 11:36

when it is a known fact people have admitted in here to using a postal vote, then going to the polls as well..!

It's not a known fact to me mummmy2017. Who are these multiple mumsnetters who claim to have voted twice? Can you link to their claims?
TIA
