Theresa May has asked for a short extension until 30th June, after Cabinet Brexiteers stopped her asking for a longer extension.

She has not stated the purpose of the extension beyond 'to pass her deal'. Which does not have a majority, because if it did May would be overturn the standing order Bercow invoked to block MVIII.

The EU have not reacted well to the request. Noises from France sound negative.

That doesn't mean we won't get one, but its not looking good. If we do it looks unlikely to go beyond May 23rd and EU elections.

We do not expect a response from the EU until Monday.

May has therefore in practice reinstated the possibility of no deal next Friday. Or at the end of any extension we do get.

She is due to give a speech on a podum at 6pm tonight.

Parliament has called an emergency debate on the extension to try and take control of debate. It, so far, looks like no more that the Brexit Secretary filibusting. Its going round and round in circles going no where.

Meanwhile rumours that Operation Yellowhammer will kick in on Monday are in the air. That's the first steps to martial law to manage no deal. This is very bad.

9 days to go.

How else do you get rid of dictators?

Military coup or revolution generally...

We have entered the Twilight Zone

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 20/03/2019 21:41

I thought she did ok. I think she is decent.

WaterQuarter · 20/03/2019 21:41

nearly 140,000 now. people really loved that speech...

DivisionBelles · 20/03/2019 21:41

That petition has certainly gained traction since TM's non-speech. I signed it at about 7.45 and it was 75k, 2 hours and a pointless speech later it's almost doubled! Maybe if gets to 500k, they might listen.

CordeliaEarhart · 20/03/2019 21:41

TM just said she knows what the public want - for parliament to get on with Brexit. There's not a lot ordinary people can do to show we disagree. But we can sign a petition and we can attend the march on Saturday.

SparklySneakers · 20/03/2019 21:41

@Amoregentlemanlikemanner ??? You jest, surely?

Icantreachthepretzels · 20/03/2019 21:42

It's actually sped up - now more like 200 people every 8 secs. According to my rough calculations, if people kept on signing at this pace we would reach 17 million signatures on ... 29th March.

Just catching up on the speech and if that isn't the final stake in the cold dead heart of the WA I don't know what it. What self respecting Remainer MP would vote for her deal after that insulting diatribe of self-absorbed shittiness.

EnlightenmentwasaPassingPhase · 20/03/2019 21:43

I don’t know how she can be made to go tomorrow

They were talking about this on the radio last week. If the "men in suits" aka the 1922 Committee pay her a visit, then she goes.

Actually, they were talking about "normal" Tory leaders so who knows how TM would react if 1923 Committee put the screws on.

keepforgettingmyusername · 20/03/2019 21:43

The petition seems to be gathering about 509 signatures every couple of minutes. Would be great if a genuinely meaningful number of people signed - millions.

The80sweregreat · 20/03/2019 21:44

His can this deal be voted on again when the speaker said that it can't?
Why does every politician say different things? The EU haven't said they can extend yet either , but that seems to be a given?
No wonder people are confused.

SandAndSnow · 20/03/2019 21:44

Does anyone know how many signatures the most signed petition on the government website is?

CordeliaEarhart · 20/03/2019 21:44

Well I signed earlier and that speech spurred me on to share with people. You can see how it has gained momentum. But yes, she definitely has managed to unite the country.

WaterQuarter · 20/03/2019 21:44

Like a Francis Urquhart type of man in suit? I jest!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/03/2019 21:45

The Petition map is very interesting

Cambridgeshire appears to be the most outraged.

SandAndSnow · 20/03/2019 21:45

Sorry, am incoherent with stress and exhaustion about all of this.

Will reword.

Does anyone know how many signatures the most signed petition on the government website received? And what it was for, actually.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/03/2019 21:46

What does the 1922 committee do?

TatianaLarina · 20/03/2019 21:46

Perhaps the March this weekend should be ‘Get Theresa out’

horseshit · 20/03/2019 21:47

Does the Kyle/Wilson amendment stand any chance? Or is it truly game over now?

BiglyBadgers · 20/03/2019 21:47

Glad to see my city getting pretty darn furious. That's cheered me up a bit Grin
