Brexit

Put it to the People March 23rd March

www.peoples-vote.uk/march

While it's cutting things rather fine, the next People's vote is on March 23rd. It's clear the politicians have no clue. They still can't agree on what brexit should look like. Time to take it back to the people.

To people who respond to tell me things like 'we won, get over it',
I'd like to thank you in advance for bumping the thread.

Grinchly

"... get seriously panicky in crowds..."

So do I and I talked about my discomfort before the last march. As it happens, it was absolutely fine, people were very kind and encouraging and I never felt threatened or overwhelmed. Do go if you can. If you carry a red toothbrush, I'll make sure I look out for you and we can panic together Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2019 21:35

I think we already represent a reasonable sample of the sort of people who are likely to go on this march. Can any of us actually imagine losing our heads and turning uncharacteristicly violent? It's just normal people like us not out to make trouble.

For anyone who really hates crowds, trafalgar square is a good place to stand back from the crowd and wave people on. There's also another spot on Piccadilly on the other side of Albemarle street where you can stand and support the crowd as it turns on to St James street.

The big marches are crowded on Park lane and then again in Whitehall. I'd probably peel off before Whitehall if you don't like crowds. Ther than that there's space around you and lots of side roads to step in and out of it.

There will be an accessible route too.

Talking with my 82 year old dad tonight: if there aren't going to be regional marches planned for the same day, he's seriously considering making the trip to London from Glasgow to join in. If he does, dh and I may well go too.

lonelyplanetmum · 18/02/2019 07:11

Can I swap my FiL for your Dad please Pretty ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2019 07:37

Good chap Prettybird.

One of the favourite phrases in the Trump threads is 'Nevertheless, she persisted' after the US senate tried to silence Elizabeth Warren. I think that is a good motto for our approach as we near the Brexit date.

If anyone is having a wobble about whether we should keep trying.

Nevertheless, she persisted.

A LOT of interest in the new independent group - their Twitter had 14k new followers in the first HOUR.

I think their website has crashed!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2019 12:12

Wow!

It's a bit dizzy making all of this. Anyone feeling wobbly might like to have a little ponder about making a placard. Sometimes a creative outlet can be really therapeutic.

Does anyone know if regional marches are likely? I can't go to London (small kids) but would really like to take part in Manchester

PostNotInHaste · 18/02/2019 12:52

I suggest emailing the PV about regional marches. I did awesome or so ago saying would be good to have coordination across the country so people like my elderly neighbour who regrets her Leave vote could get to one . No response as yet though.

DarlingNikita · 18/02/2019 13:03

It's a bit little too late IMO. Having said that I think I'll go.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2019 13:17

Good stuff Nikita.

As soon as info about coaches for those further afield starts appearing I'll post information.

Oh fantastic, thank you. That’s DH and I booked .

Grinchly · 18/02/2019 13:50

Thanks for the encouragement from fellow crowd panickers!
I will seriously consider this now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2019 13:53

Brilliant Post!

Grinchly, if I'm totally honest, I struggle in crowds too. I'm glad you are considering it.

I like "toddlers against Tory tantrums" but I'd like something a bit less focussed on JUST the Tories, as imho, the whole HoC has to accept responsibility for this shitshow.

I'll keep thinking...!

Peregrina · 18/02/2019 18:57

as imho, the whole HoC has to accept responsibility for this shitshow.

No, not all - those who have consistently voted to support Brexit without a thought for how it will affect the ordinary man or woman - so about 5 out of 6 MPs.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2019 18:58

Does she have a favourite tv program? Something like Girls name says the Teletubbies would do a better job.

Bit boring... but might be tweakable.

I want to have something along the lines of "stop ignoring half of the country" but it's too similar to leave means leave now.

"Broken Britain" sums it up but doesn't have the humour or pizazz i'd like.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 19/02/2019 07:53

Brexit - the world's craziest distraction from austerity policy.

Brexit - costing the UK double what we saved with austerity.

Brexit - because Tories were too proud to admit their own faults.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 19/02/2019 07:54

Yeah, I'm struggling to find my humour today Grin
