While it's cutting things rather fine, the next People's vote is on March 23rd. It's clear the politicians have no clue. They still can't agree on what brexit should look like. Time to take it back to the people.

To people who respond to tell me things like 'we won, get over it',
I'd like to thank you in advance for bumping the thread.

We will be there.

There are coaches being organised for people who are outside London. Manchester already has booked a number.

I went last time and it was really good natured and loads of families were there. As a precaution Sharpie your contact details on their arm so in the unlikely event of separation they can get someone to call you.

If you think that a 2nd referendum is a way out of the deadlock created by some posh boys having a tiz it is really important that you make it to London. October's march rattled cages and gave wavering MPs bit of spine due to it's size. Lets make this bigger than that.

colouringinpro · 17/02/2019 09:35

I'll be there.

The previous one was great and family friendly. But like others I think the atmosphere will be different. People are now a lot angrier and frustrated.

I Really hope for a big turnout. And if nothing else, actually doing something is helpful to my mental health, at least in the short term. I'm going to be nagging friends and family this time too...

DH and I have cancelled plans for the weekend and are coming. I don’t think I want actually a PV but it’s the only way of voicing our disgust at what is happening . We want to stand up, be counted and say we tried.

SusanWalker · 17/02/2019 09:54

I wish I could go. If they have a regional one I could manage that. Otherwise I will have to be there in spirit.

borntobequiet · 17/02/2019 09:54

If you’re not able to join a group, I find getting a train that arrives in London about 10:00 am or a little after gives plenty of time to orientate oneself and get to the start of the march. Plan your Tube route, if you’re not used to it it’s really much easier and quicker than you might think. You can do this on
tfl.gov.uk
Also you can buy day return train tickets (day travel cards) that include Tube trains in zones 1 and 2, which would be fine. They’re very good value, and if you have a railcard, the Tube is discounted as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2019 09:59

City mapper is also a really good app for getting around London, it gives walking, tube and bus routes.

Some rail companies give discounts for group travel which can be handy. For those in the SE two people can travel on a network rail card, giving 30% off travel.

And of course family and friends rail card also gives very good discounts.

I'm not going to be able to travel any distance as I'm likely to be in significant discomfort at best on that date. Regional coaches to London won't work for me, or trains. It's all very awkwardly-timed as usually I'd be fine and able to travel easily anywhere.

If there's a local march I'll do it though, as I should be able to manage that (unless it's all gone very wrong!).

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 17/02/2019 10:09

I'm all for protesting but I'm afraid I don't think another vote would change anything. What would the options be at this point? No deal, wa, remain?

lonelyplanetmum · 17/02/2019 10:12

Sorry about your op fluffy.

Here's a pic of my DD holding a red toothbrush at the last march.

I think the point is to show complete disrespect for the government and to set the scene for the inevitable closest possible trading relationship.

borntobequiet · 17/02/2019 10:19

If you don’t express your point of view people will reasonably think you don’t have one. I think the timing of this is in reaction to the government’s taking it right to the line.

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/02/2019 10:28

It will be interesting to see how it goes.

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/02/2019 10:31

And whether it effects anything.

I hope that it stops a no deal Brexit.

borntobequiet · 17/02/2019 10:42

Even if all it does is stop no deal by making MPs accept the WA - the least worst option - it will have had a positive effect.

borntobequiet · 17/02/2019 10:42

I should have said least worst apart from Remain.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 17/02/2019 11:02

If people are concerned about getting to the march from further afield, our experience of last few marches (Brexit x 2, Trump, NHS etc) is that they don't start on time. It's 'fun' to be at the gathering point and get chatting to other marchers from all over but it's very crowded (obvs) and there's a lot of standing around. So if you're infirm or with young ones you may find it easier to plan to join the march after it's set off later on the route. Green Park on Piccadilly is a good joining point. It will be very crowded there but the March moves very slowly and you'll definitely be in the thick of it and be counted! There's time to run into a sandwich shop and grab refreshments or loo break and rejoin as the march takes a looong time to get down to Trafalgar Square (which is a bit of a bottleneck) and then on to Parliment Square.

SandAndSnow · 17/02/2019 11:58

You're all making me think we should just go for it. I'm desperate to be counted in the numbers against the sheer madness of Brexit.

So...what would be a good message to put on my (almost) 3 yr old dd's placard?

LarkDescending · 17/02/2019 12:13

I think the timing of the march (last-minute) is deliberate, in circumstances where the PM is clearly running down the clock so that everything that matters will be happening in the last week of March. On when the country is on the brink of the March “meaningful vote” will she run out of road for further obfuscation.

If the march is well-supported by the public it strengthens the hand of MPs who want to support an amendment whereby the WA is approved but subject to public ratification (this deal vs the status quo) - as happened with the Good Friday agreement. If successful the strategy avoids no-deal, delays any departure until we are better prepared, and probably softens any Brexit which does happen.

If on the other hand the well-publicised march is poorly supported, it will be spun as though we have all been “won round” to the Government’s position, just like we are told that 80% of the electorate supposedly supported Brexit by voting for the Tories/Labour in 2017.

LarkDescending · 17/02/2019 12:13

*Only when the country...

Hasenstein · 17/02/2019 12:20

I'll be digging out my Red Tooth Brush from the last march. Would be good to see some more this time!

Don't expect it to be a quick affair. Last time we stood for about 2 hours before we even moved - and we were fairly near the front.Couldn't get into Parliament Square, so had to watch on big screen on Whitehall. By the time we left, they were saying that some people were just setting off from Marble Arch.

No idea whether it will do any good with the cloth-eared bunch in the HoC, but as others have said at least it will be good to be on the right side of history.

KennDodd · 17/02/2019 12:27

I'm going to march. It's more for international consumption than domestic though. I know it will be reported across the world and I want people to see how many people are unhappy with this and are being taken out of the EU against their will. I want Europe to know 70%+ of our young people don't want this.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2019 12:38

SandandSnow, good question! I'll have a muse on that. I'm fond of a good witty placard.
