www.peoples-vote.uk/march

While it's cutting things rather fine, the next People's vote is on March 23rd. It's clear the politicians have no clue. They still can't agree on what brexit should look like. Time to take it back to the people.

To people who respond to tell me things like 'we won, get over it',
I'd like to thank you in advance for bumping the thread.

Brilliant day. No aggro at all. Everybody just lovely.

SandAndSnow · 23/03/2019 19:39

Copied from the other March thread because I'm too tired to say anything else!

We had such a fabulous day! The atmosphere was brilliant and there were so many funny placards. I kept my eyes peeled for red toothbrushes but didn't see any. So glad we made the effort to go.

But I'm glad to be home now with my feet up in front of the fire.

to all of you still travelling home.

And thank you OYBBK for being such a source of useful information and encouragement. It was our first march but I don't think it will be our last!

You are welcome Sand :) I'm super knackered too.
We started near the front and somehow due to how things were funnelled didn't make it to Parliament Square until after 5pm. We spent a few hours stuck on Park Lane.

Mega day though!

This is a very good Twitter thread on numbers (police gave unofficial estimate of 2 million later in the day) twitter.com/sturdyalex/status/1109534678141276160

Had a wonderful day yesterday, gutted we missed the speeches though. We were quite early to Park Lane and apparently not far from the front but didn't get off park lane until gone 2pm.

The mood was wonderful very good spirits. Didn't see any police other than a few happy liaison officers until we got to downing street. Thought the drummers were ace, loved the boris lookalike too.

Hugely impressed by the number and attitude of the older teenagers and young adults. Really passionate but well behaved.

Lots of comments on our placard even though it was very rushed. We left it on the railings at Parliament Square.

Glad to have been able to go and have our voices heard.

Cherrypi · 24/03/2019 09:30

I went on the march yesterday. It was interesting the main refrain was bollocks to brexit not in support of a second referendum. Jeremy Corbyn was booed when he appeared on the led by donkeys screen. There were more older people than I expected. The people near me were definitely quite middle class/ posh but I suppose it is a self selecting group for those who can afford to travel to London or already live there.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 24/03/2019 10:22

Cherrypi re affording to travel, not necessarily. I travelled from Durham, the journey cost £10 on the coach. Not the most comfortable means of travel, but affordable for most people.
I guess it is knowing about these things though. Had i not been pointed by badkitten to the relevant sites, i would never have known i could get to the march so cheaply, and with like minded people😊

Toooldtobearsed2 · 24/03/2019 10:23

And yes, Bollocks to Brexit was the loudest, longest refrain!

Tavannach · 24/03/2019 10:35

Great day.

Very spiteful piece in the Fail casting doubts on the numbers and sneering at the crowd.Charlotte Gill writes in the Daily Mail

When we got to Parliament Square it was gone 5pm and there still people behind us.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 24/03/2019 11:50

Just read it. She did her best but I think she was defeated by kindness and tolerance. She had obviously been telling everyone she is a Brexiteer in order to have something to write about.

Perhaps it depends where you were, because I'd say the crowd was younger than I expected (but I was up front where the accessible march joined so there were quite a lot of young kids). In Parliament square itself from where I was standing the crowd looked like you'd expect any London crowd to look ie quite diverse.

Yaralie · 24/03/2019 16:52

No-one can be sure exactly how many went on the march. The BBC started with "tens of thousands", then "hundreds of thousands" then "1 million" and BBC Scotland reported 2 million. The unofficial estimate from the Metropolitan Police is nearer to 2 million.

We can be pretty sure that it was somewhere between 1 and 2 million, making it the biggest ever march in London, even surpassing the 1 million who marched in the "Stop the War" campaign in 2003.

Tony Blair's government chose to ignore these 1 million people. Will this government pay any attention whatsoever to the many more peaceful marchers who came to London yesterday and showed how ordinary people who feel very passionately about the dreadful harm that could be done to our country if brexit is not stopped, can march through our capital city with no incidents of violence or threats of violence?

They seem to pay more attention to about 100 pro-brexit thugs who attacked the police and threatened MPs, encouraging Theresa May to talk about civil unrest "if brexit is not delivered"

CurrerBell · 24/03/2019 18:02

It was incredible. We were in the main march for the first hour or so, and then sort of skirted around it so as not to get stuck in the crowds with the kids. The side streets and parks were full of people supporting the march. Such a friendly atmosphere, and I've never felt so safe in London.

Lovely people on the coach too, and we cheered when the petition got to 4 million.

We caught some of the speeches at Parliament Square. Have only just caught up online, but Lord Heseltine's speech... wow.

If Brexit has brought one good thing, for me, it seems to have united people across the traditional party lines.

SweetestThing · 24/03/2019 21:26

Late report on yesterday. What a fabulous day out! Amazing to see so many people all with a common purpose, all unfailingly good-natured (even when my enormous EU flag kept flapping over their faces). It was a slow shuffle for most of the time but that meant we could enjoy reading the placards and chatting.

Highlights:
Boris Johnson lookalike who just shouted out "Sorry!" and got the loudest cheer.
The drummers who did an amazing job making some noise for us
Meeting EUSupergirl and Brian Cox at the start, and then Tony Robinson partway round
The guy giving away hot vegetarian food - awesome
The door to the Cabinet Office being festooned, literally covered, with Bollocks to Brexit stickers and surrounded by placards
Hearing Jess Philips's speech
Just being with other passionate, engaged people and seeing the range of ages, from babes in arms to quite elderly.

Democracy in action.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/03/2019 21:29

The Cabinet Office was cool! I felt super naughty sticking a sticker on it!
