www.peoples-vote.uk/march

While it's cutting things rather fine, the next People's vote is on March 23rd. It's clear the politicians have no clue. They still can't agree on what brexit should look like. Time to take it back to the people.

To people who respond to tell me things like 'we won, get over it',
I'd like to thank you in advance for bumping the thread.

Who else is coming from Europe? There is a British in Europe meet up at 11.30 at speaker's corner. Not sure if we will be there - will depend on what other friends who are attending have planned - but might be useful for someone.

Lexilooo · 18/03/2019 10:23

I have now got travel and accommodation sorted and will definitely be going to the march!

First time DH or I have ever done anything like this!

Any tips for a first time marcher??? Are people wearing slogan t-shirts or just taking placards?

Any tips for a first time marcher???

I think anything goes really. It's just about swelling the numbers.

•Comfy shoes are a must as there's dawdling and waiting.
• Wear a t-shirt if you want or blue/ yellow stuff but plenty of people are just in normal clothes.
• Some people have placards but lots don't. I think blue and yellow balloons are quite good as they are lighter to carry. They do blow around a bit.

If you want to get into Westminster square to hear the speeches etc I'd get there really early. If you want to do that maybe don't march or take a short cut to the square.

You can dip in and out at any point - so no worries about doing all of it. Last time we just peeled off early to head for Waterloo as we had another commitment anyway.

If you are meeting friends better to meet them somewhere else first as anywhere on the route is very hard to spot people.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 18/03/2019 11:05

Dress for the weather - it could get cold hanging about.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/03/2019 11:08

It's the dressing bit that bothers me. I currently have about 3 outfits I can get on without moving my shoulder! My warmest clothes are a no no.

I'm sure I'll find something though. 😁 I'll be the one with a sling looking like I got dressed in the dark! 😂

CruCru · 18/03/2019 11:46

I'm going to take some bottles of water and maybe some Haribo. It could end up being a long time on my feet.

Wear layers so that if it's cold you can add them or too hot take them off.
Lots of us wear blue and yellow, but lots don't. There are usually a lot of flags as well as placards. If walking or waiting is a problem, one of those little folding seats might be handy. It's probably best to carry a rucksack rather than a handbag.

BonnesVacances · 18/03/2019 18:49

What are people putting on their placards? I'm so unimaginative but I do like to have one, if only because I can look for it in photos. Grin

Peregrina · 18/03/2019 19:39

Bollocks to Brexit
Bin Brexit
If Brexit were a Cat you'd put it out of its misery. (Bit wordy, maybe)
Do you trust these Charlatans? (with pictures of your favourite Charlatans.)

I have decided that a placard is too much bother and will just contend myself with the EU t-shirt and flag.

lonelyplanetmum · 18/03/2019 19:55

will just content myself with the EU t-shirt and flag

Both Flags and balloons are good because they're lighter and easier to pack away afterwards.Placards good for amusement value.

I'm a bit worried one of my ( male) friends is coming up with some silly all in one blue Lycra constricting construction!

Flowerplower · 18/03/2019 20:02

DH and I have decided to come and have just booked train tickets and hotel for the night before. Any idea when/where to duck out please to be sure of getting back to Euston for a 6pm train?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/03/2019 20:35

With so many cat photos on the .westminstenders threads, I feel sure that cats should be on many placards.

Flowerplower, I'd feel comfortable leaving parliament square at 5. It's about a 40 minute walk back to Euston from there at a sensible pace.

mizu · 18/03/2019 20:45

We're coming too - yay. Been on marches before but not a Brexit one. Coming from about a 2 hour drive away and have to be back at 5 so going to leave here early in the morning.
DDs currently thinking of slogans Grin

Flowerplower · 18/03/2019 20:53

Thanks OhYouBadKitten, that helps a lot!

lonelyplanetmum · 18/03/2019 21:19

I think I'd be inclined to leave the Westminster area by 4.30 just because progress could be slow with crowds etc. Maybe avoid Embankment and Charing Cross as they could be busy. Perhaps walk to Leicester Square then get Nothern line Northbound?

lonelyplanetmum · 18/03/2019 21:21

There's a float going around with loud speakers about the march...my friend saw it!

Put it to the People March 23rd March
SandAndSnow · 18/03/2019 22:04

After reading about the problems with placards I've decided to simply festoon DD's buggy with Eu flag bunting which I bought on eBay.

We're planning to do the accessible route and we're meeting some friends for drinks so won't stick around for the speeches. In fact, we may not make it to parliament square but I don't mind as long as our voices are counted.

Dd is bringing her drum and I'm tempted to teach her a "bollocks to Brexit" chant. Too much for a 2 year old? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/03/2019 07:22

Maybe Bananas to Brexit and she could wave around an inflatable banana. Grin

Saturday's current forecast: Sunny, light winds, temps around 12c.
Advise bringing suncream for those who burn early in the season.

Right well I have just ordered us all t-shirts and balloons. Placard will be a bit much I think as we are bringing dd(6) & ds(4) so thanks for the balloon tip.

Need to sort our travel logistics out still but we will be there.

lonelyplanetmum · 19/03/2019 10:18

Just a warning even though I recommended balloons they are quite annoying as they can sort of bob and blow around a bit. But still lighter than a placard!

Stylinit · 19/03/2019 10:35

We can always pop them if they get too irritating!

lonelyplanetmum · 19/03/2019 10:35

Yes but my children don't like a balloon popping approach!
