Brexit

Put it to the People March 23rd March

www.peoples-vote.uk/march

While it's cutting things rather fine, the next People's vote is on March 23rd. It's clear the politicians have no clue. They still can't agree on what brexit should look like. Time to take it back to the people.

To people who respond to tell me things like 'we won, get over it',
I'd like to thank you in advance for bumping the thread.

Still early to tell Born, at the moment it looks nice, but the Atlantic is pretty mobile, so that could change.

bellini I would guess a lot of people at that march could have been students, who might have grown up in different parts of the country.

bellinisurge · 10/03/2019 09:13

Thanks @Kittywampus . It just jarred a bit to my ears. And I'm already on side.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/03/2019 09:39

I'm a southerner (comparatively, I'm from East Mids) living in the north west, so that's how I'd sound on a local march! There aren't many of us round here though, so I'd likely be drowned out!

borntobequiet · 10/03/2019 10:08

York is a v popular university with lots of students from the southern half of the country, could be an explanation.

borntobequiet · 10/03/2019 10:09

Oops cross post (very late cross on my part)

NoWordForFluffy · 10/03/2019 10:13

I'm not sure the accents matter really, it's not local marches for local people, is it?! I probably wouldn't even pay attention to accents overly (maybe because I'm the odd one out!).

Toooldtobearsed2 · 10/03/2019 10:13

Anybody else travelling from the north east?

I am getting on the coach at 5am (will be leaving home at 4am) and hoping to be home at midnight😣

Kind of hoping Brexit is just cancelled forever before the 23rd😁

Helmetbymidnight · 10/03/2019 10:25

it is reading about the coaches and the distances people are travelling to join that shamed me into coming!
thank you op -and everyone making such efforts!

JockTamsonsBairns · 10/03/2019 12:14

@toooldtobearsed me! I'm getting on the coach in Darlington at 5am returning at midnight. We must be near each other! Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/03/2019 13:59

:)

With less than two weeks to go, maybe we should start thinking about tying people together (figuratively speaking) Are there any people arriving by themselves who would rather meet up with others at the London train stations? (usual sensible precautions apply). Are there people who have been on marches before who would be happy to shepherd others from train stations across to the march?

Toooldtobearsed2 · 10/03/2019 15:59

@JockTamsonsBairns yay! Will have to look out for each other - i will be on the Durham bus, so no chance of meeting up before we get there😑

OhYouBadBadKitten I am hoping the organisers will walk us from the bus drop off point to the march, I am just hoping to stick alongside someone who knows their way back😁

Yaralie · 10/03/2019 17:06

Even if b*** brexit is cancelled before 23rd, I think we should still march to show how strongly we all feel about the dreadful damage that has been inflicted on our country over the last three years.

JockTamsonsBairns · 10/03/2019 17:56

@toooldtobearsed2 I'll give the Durham coach a wave if we pass you on the A1! Grin
Kitten that's a good idea about teaming up. I haven't been on a march for years, and I'm not hugely familiar with London. A bit like tooold, I'm more concerned with finding my way back to the coach on time! I'm coming down on my own, just me and 11yo ds, so it would be great to meet up with a group if anyone's up for that?

Helmetbymidnight I couldn't agree more. I'm sorry to say I missed the last demo in London, as it felt a bit far and I had 'stuff to do'. In reality, that "stuff" was just run-of-the-mill mundanity. It was this thread that inspired me to get myself in gear, and get booked up for this one. I just want my kids to know that I did what I could.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/03/2019 18:21

Bus people I'm sure will find people to walk with :) City Mapper is great for getting around London, also you can drop a pin when you get there either on google maps or whats app. BUT at massive demos the mobile signal gets swamped and it can be impossible to get on line. So I also recommend going old school and printing off a a couple of maps and prearranging a meet point in case you get separated from people.

Usually once you get a block away from the demo you can pick up a signal again.

I've booked flights from Toulouse for me and DS. We arrive late on Friday night and will stay at an airport hotel before getting a coach into London on the Saturday. Flight back home at the crack of dawn on Sunday.

Picked up return flights for 20€ each, though I also have to budget for 2 nights in a hotel.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2019 21:57

Gosh Misti, that's impresssive commitment!

OP posts:
leccybill · 11/03/2019 22:06

I'm toying with coming down on my own from the north-west by coach. Really want to. Tryly now or never isn't it.
Partly as DD 9 is on a trip to Houses of Parliament the next day and I'm feeling a bit anxious about it, want to have a nosey around security measures around Westminster.

Tolleshunt · 11/03/2019 22:11

I'm coming, but it's easy for me, as I live in London. I'm in awe at all of you who are travelling such long distances. Thank-you.

Mistigri · 12/03/2019 07:26

Gosh Misti, that's impresssive commitment!

I'll regret it forever if I don't.

Though tbh there are comments on here today (not this thread), from remainers, that are making me wonder why I am bothering to march for someone else's right to vote on my future.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/03/2019 07:29

:) leccybill, good for you,! :) If you are coming by coach, you soon won't be alone.

Thank you for doing this Mistigri.

If you are struggling for placard ideas you can buy a not for profit one here:

www.protestprint.co.uk/c/119/ledbydonkeys-placards

Apparently comes with a stick. No idea of the quality or size.

OP posts:
Mistigri · 12/03/2019 09:00

Won't have a placard though unless we can persuade someone else to supply one. Ryanair 9.99€ flights don't allow you to carry a suitcase.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/03/2019 09:16

There will be loads of placards to pick up when you get there and its definitely not essential to carry one.

someone paid for one of those on a local billboard. It is a bit leave round here as far as I can gather.
