Westminstenders: Competitive Stupidity

A week of wondering which MP is going to be the most dumb.

There is stiff competition between parties and remain / leave.

Expect incredible bids of ignorance and incompetence to curl your toes, with a bit of constitutional craziness thrown in for good measure.

Valentine's Day beckons...

... And so does the No Deal Divorce.

I think many fascists embrace 'non-existence' towards certain groups don't they?

StepLadders007 · 12/02/2019 14:14

And my dcs grandfather was killed in 1943 when his shop was torpedoed

I thank him for his sacrifice but what's the relevance?

Are we playing WWII top trumps as I have a couple of grandparents who have some great stories when they opposed the German Wermacht.

1tisILeClerc · 12/02/2019 14:15

I believe Churchill considered the return of 20,000 troops from Dunkirk as a 'success'. The fact that over 300,000 came back was outstanding.

DGRossetti · 12/02/2019 14:15

I'd rather quote myself than neo nazis.

Which famous author made a comment about quoting themselves ? Eliot ? Auden ?

StepLadders007 · 12/02/2019 14:15

And my dcs grandfather was killed in 1943 when his shop was torpedoed

I really wanted to make a joke about that, but didn't.

ListsWonderfulLists · 12/02/2019 14:20

Long time lurker on these threads but want to say thank you so much for keeping us informed on this Brexit insanity.

Just reading the latest on Theresa May's idiocy on the BBC and many of the comments are horrendous. This one particularly.

  1. Posted by U17390819 on 6 minutes ago Last call for remainerturds leaving Blighty. Those still here after Independence Day better start getting used to wearing identifying armbands.

Go for it.

I put nothing past you.

Long time lurker on these threads

Welcome lists - tell us, are you eagerly awaiting the breaking of this echo chamber by the linking of the All-Answering 500-page Brexit White Paper?

Destiel · 12/02/2019 14:22

Simply pointing out many of us have family members who fought and died fighting fascism.

Whether you have read it on here or not.

SusanWalker · 12/02/2019 14:22

I baked a pineapple upside down cake yesterday. Then I flossed my teeth to make sure I had all the sticky bits out and dislodged half a filling.

I heard a piece on Chris Grayling on the radio, all his fuck ups in all the departments he's had. He's cost us millions of pounds in failed policies. He must have something good on TM. Or there's no one else willing to be a minister and back her deal.

PestyMachtubernahme · 12/02/2019 14:22

The Prevent strategy on radicalisation has many referrals for far right extremism. Fascism is a well recognised threat to this country. Maybe those that one who don't believe could google it.

Destiel · 12/02/2019 14:22

lists I wish I could say I'm shocked.

StepLadders007 · 12/02/2019 14:22

Read the post again and look for the glaring error and then rethink what you're trying to insinuate against me.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/02/2019 14:23

Several of us here aren't impressed with mindless nationalism and ramping up hate against our neighbours,
because we have family members who fought and died in WW2 - e.g. my uncle at 18

I referred to my dad at Dunkirk, because as I posted, I'm offended by people who claim the reflected glory of what he and his mates did, who twist what happened and why,
who hide behind the flag.

My dad fought against fascism
Many on the hard British right instead supported Mosely's Blackshirts

Breitbart is fascist central, where they are trying to spread fascism again, across the US and Europe
Brexit is part of that struggle
Noone who respects the sacrifices our armed forces made in WW2 should be linking to those scum

Destiel · 12/02/2019 14:23

The only prevent use in our school has been for far right radicalisation.

Destiel · 12/02/2019 14:23

I saw the error.

I corrected it.

That's what adults do.

Destiel · 12/02/2019 14:24

I think its prob the latter Susan

BigChocFrenzy · 12/02/2019 14:25

Let's get back to serious discussion and ignore the pigeon

Destiel · 12/02/2019 14:25

I think I'm going to make some flapjacks.

RedToothBrush · 12/02/2019 14:26

My grandfather was a pilot in WWII. His third wife was a German. She was a daughter of a baker. A baker who was conscripted to the German army and wore a nazi uniform. His disappeared when the red army advanced, and his body was never found. His daughter was 5. When she grew up her mother ended up in East Germany and she was in West Germany. It was difficult for her to see her mother as a result, but marrying my grandfather made it more possible. When I was ten I went to visit them in Germany. They took me to the border and showed me the gun towers.

I can quite categorically say that my grandfather and my step grandmother thought it all bullshit and the idea of glory was total crap. They both hated the ideology which had such profound misery and suffering on them both.

The idea of good versus evil is one which takes away the reality that people just ended up doing what they had to survive. It almost makes you vulnerable to repeating the same crap all over again.

But yes let's hear all the stories about how amazing X was in WWII. You completely miss the entire point.

So are we having a vote on Thursday or not? Has that too been postponed? What's going on?!

StepLadders007 · 12/02/2019 14:27

The Prevent strategy on radicalisation has many referrals for far right extremism

I'm actually surprised more people have been radicalised given the extent of the grooming gangs and our young children.

Some reports are now saying it's as high as 200,000 victims and no one really lifted a finger against the communities that harboured the gangs.

I don't blame the communities though, I blame the far left and it's indoctrination of normal people.

Cheery reports from the Sunday Times about Phil May's influence

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/brexit-deal-latest-irish-foreign-minister-deals-another-blow-to-theresa-may-by-insisting-backstop-a4049816.html

The Sunday Times reported today that Mrs May’s husband Philip had been accused by her chief of staff and former MP Gavin Barwell ^
of “scuppering” plans to offer Labour a permanent customs union
with the EU to try and get their backing.

Mr May is said to have continued to encourage his wife to seek a deal that is approved by the DUP and Brexiteer Tories.

The newspaper also reported that Whitehall officials were considering imposing martial law in Britain in the event of no-deal to prevent civil disobedience.

PestyMachtubernahme · 12/02/2019 14:34

For people who think (or who don't think) they may have been radicalised.
