Westminstenders: Competitive Stupidity

A week of wondering which MP is going to be the most dumb.

There is stiff competition between parties and remain / leave.

Expect incredible bids of ignorance and incompetence to curl your toes, with a bit of constitutional craziness thrown in for good measure.

Valentine's Day beckons...

... And so does the No Deal Divorce.

....now, about that 500 page Brexit White Paper? Wink

If you admit that you got it wrong and that no such White Paper exists, then we'll stop mentioning it! Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 11/02/2019 17:44

If hauliers don't receive permits, how much business would they lose after Brexit - Is this just a small part of the business for most of them ?
Where / if can they diversify ?
The domestic market isn't going to grow much to replace it

Maybe fishes can reassure here, or did I miss something earlier ?

Peter Foster Retweeted Aodhán Michael Connolly@MichaelAodhan

This is unbelievable. haulage firms basically been told nope, no business for you!
This is what I have said all along deal or no-deal will fundamentally change how we do business. This is just not right.
.....
Seamus Leheny@Freight_NI

Hearing now from several hauliers that they haven't been granted an ECMT permit.
Expecting a busy morning once people start logging into their work email.

Sending these on a Saturday at 9pm certainly a strange way to communicate such bad news with serious implications. #Brexit

BiglyBadgers · 11/02/2019 17:45

And I'm still waiting eagerly to find out what I will gain from this wonderful sovereignty. I mean it must be pretty damn special right...? I mean to make up for all the stuff we will be losing...

Hazards · 11/02/2019 17:46

dest oh that's so kind Grin I'm sure they are very stressed trying to dig out the 500 page Brexit white paper.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/02/2019 17:47

This is my worry too ..

Fabian Zuleeg@FabianZuleeg (European Policy centre)

After we have gone through the whole process including extension so time for a final decision has come:
if it is no deal vs. no Brexit (revocation, PV), no deal vs government falling (GE), no deal vs May's deal/backstop,

I would be far from certain that no deal can be ruled out

GD12 · 11/02/2019 17:47

Well there you go, what we all knew. Mays fallback is a no deal.

You know me...all heart but mostly lemon drizlle
❤😂

BiglyBadgers · 11/02/2019 17:49

I am still of the opinion that no deal is currently the most likely outcome. Nothing May is saying or doing is changing that view. There are other possibilities but I just can't see her taking them.

Here are some of the tomatoes I grew last year,

The Founder Of Nigel Farage's New Brexit Party Has A History Of Anti-Muslim Comments

Alex Wickham @alexwickham
EXC: The founder of Nigel Farage’s new Brexit Party has a long history of making inflammatory comments about Muslims. Farage is refusing to say if he will continue to support the party six days after it was founded.

Brexit Party founder Catherine Blaiklock wrote about Muslims last year: “There are currently 50 majority Muslim countries in the world. If these people really dislike it so much in the West, why do they chose to live here?"

Two anti-Muslim videos posted on the website of the founder of Nigel Farage's new Brexit Party

Founder of new Brexit party claimed pubs are being turned into mosques: “Just imagine if even a small proportion of these pubs get turned into Mosques. That is what seems to be happening in East Anglia."

More from the founder of Farage's Brexit party: "There is also some truth in the statement that Muslim men were impregnating white British girls to create Muslim babies”. Remember Farage said he was quitting UKIP because it had become "obsessed" with Islam

The Brexit Party founder's history of inflammatory comments do not just extend to Muslims. She has written about "Mongoloid eyes" and "white girls mixed with demented older black men". Farage declining to say if he'll continue to support the party.

Well, colour me surprised....

Destiel
Tell us about the hunnyflapjack mummy.

The lack of permits was flagged up several weeks back, time flies so I can't remember when it was.

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 17:55

Well thank your for today, it's been illuminating. If slightly weird at certain points.

Looking forward to discussing it with DP

Steps: Did you know that some people think that if you use the word "Globalisation" it's actually anti-semitism?

DP Don't be fucking ridiculous, how do you want your dog?

RedToothBrush · 11/02/2019 17:57

Steven Swinford @steven_swinford
New:

Cooper/ Boles amendment will NOT be tabled this week if PM commits to amendable motion by end of month

Under new plan PM would be forced to request A50 extension if she has no deal by March 14

Length of extension will be for Govt to determine subject to MP's approval

Can I just start roasting the dog now?

how do you want your dog?

Well Done. Not fancying it medium rare tbh. Not for a carnivore.

TalkinPeece have you tried Tromba d'Albenga? They are a sort of courgette / squash which grows into a weird and wonderful shape. We use them in all sorts of ways (including roast). When you cut a bit off it forms a sort of sticky layer which seals the end. They keep for ages in our cool-room. Very good value. They love to ramble and usually escape the raised bed and wind through a tree.

GD12 · 11/02/2019 17:58

Redtooth, yes. See Paul Waughs story too.

TalkinPeece · 11/02/2019 17:59

Oooh, no, need to check that.

This appears to be the full 585 page text of the Brexit white paper. Found, in all places, on CNN. I hope the link works.

jasjas1973 · 11/02/2019 18:02

....but the economic turmoil that no deal risks to the UK, would mean the Tories out of office for at least a GE, prob two.

unless she can somehow blame Corbyn.......?

RedToothBrush · 11/02/2019 18:02

First line of Peston article

Most MPs tell me they believe a no-deal Brexit is a remote prospect.

What do you think dog should be paired with for the full Brexit Michelin Starred Experience?

Thank you for the link which seems to work.
Maybe the 'cure' for insomnia that some on here are suffering.

PostNotInHaste · 11/02/2019 18:07

I think there is sufficient ‘it’s the EU’s fault ‘combined with issues surrounding Corbyn that they’d get back in, like Teflon at the moment. We’d be out so that would tick a lot of people’s boxes and gradually drip by drip we’ve gone from easiest deal ever to the pain will be worth it to be free.
