Westminstenders: Competitive Stupidity

RedToothBrush · 10/02/2019 16:00

A week of wondering which MP is going to be the most dumb.

There is stiff competition between parties and remain / leave.

Expect incredible bids of ignorance and incompetence to curl your toes, with a bit of constitutional craziness thrown in for good measure.

Valentine's Day beckons...

... And so does the No Deal Divorce.

Seriously people, staying in the EU is like sleep walking into some Orwellian nightmare that we could never return from.

For fecks sake, we already have the thought police in the UK.

Why do you think the EU are so keen for an EU army?

I'll tell you, so when there is unrest in a country, they can send in the Army from a different country and put down the rebellion.

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 16:09

Not it's not

Yes it is, would you like to comment on the article featuring Merkel?

or not?

1tisILeClerc · 11/02/2019 16:10

{all countries to give up their Sovereignty }
You obviously missed the bit that said a LITTLE BIT of sovereignty in certain aspects, which is what any coalition of countries does to some extent anyway. It is part of trust and mutual support, obviously a bit too subtle for 'little Englanders'.
You can only be totally 'sovereign' when in isolation.

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 16:10

So how will you measure the success of Brexit

Being free of potential EU tyranny.

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 16:11

Really? @StepLadders007 . And you think some self inflicted economic drama here in the UKis the answer? as well as ripping up the GFA? That'll impress people we want to make deals with, won't it? Show how dependable we are.Hmm

1tisILeClerc · 11/02/2019 16:12

{I'll tell you, so when there is unrest in a country, they can send in the Army from a different country and put down the rebellion.}
So how do you feel about the British army being put on standby to 'help out' when the UK leaves the EU?

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 16:12

LeClerc

Also from the article.

Europe must be stronger… and win more sovereignty,” the French president said, demanding EU member states surrender national sovereignty to Brussels over “foreign affairs, migration, and development” in addition to “an increasing part of our budgets and even fiscal resources

Laidbackorlazy · 11/02/2019 16:13

So if you could answer the question? Or an easier question. Name one EU imposed law that you wish to revoke, and thereby significantly improve your life.
Just one. Without mentioning any old shit that Boris Johnson made up.

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 16:14

So how do you feel about the British army being put on standby to 'help out' when the UK leaves the EU

You'll have to remind me of the article, thanks.

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 16:14

I think @StepLadders007 is just shitting us. No one could still actually believe that nonsense.

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 16:14

Yes it is, would you like to comment on the article featuring Merkel?

You show me yours first Grin

RedToothBrush · 11/02/2019 16:14

I'm against Globalisation and believe in Nation states having full sovereignty over their own affairs.

Oh you are against the internet and the reality of trade in 2019. That's nice.

Why are you using MN if you don't believe in globalisation? Or are you contemplating plugging the plug on it and returning to 4 television channels and Only Fools And Horses on repeat 7 days a week?

I take it you like British holidays only and don't have any interest in warm sun and sea, and would happily swap that for a donkey, an arcade and a dodgy B&B in wet Blackpool in August.

I take it you never eat bananas, coffee, tea, chocolate or anything out of season. And you'll eat my share of tripe and liver instead.

I take it that everything you own and use is produced in the UK. That includes all metal, wood, minerals, synthetics, cotton, etc etc and any other raw materials or anything made from them abroad. Like bog roll. If you are managing that, get cracking with the book on how to live off grid, you might make a fortune. Though producing the book and getting it published without the Internet or imported goods might prove a problem.

I hope you are of working age and aren't too bothered by mass employment rather than think the young should have to suck up your lifestyle choices which take away the good things you've enjoyed for the last 30 years or so. And you never have nor intend to take money from the state, including for health or pension.

I know, eh, what a bastard I am

No I don't think you are a bastard. I might be inclined to go so far as to concede that reality is a bit of a bastard, though I quite like the luxuries it brings too.

I don't like a lot of things but the good things we have come about because we have swapped a little big of sovereignty for cooperation because we lack the hard power and shun the brutally that allowed us to flourish in the Empire. So I take the compromise cos I figure it works out quite well for everyone.

Honestly I'm sure you are genuinely a good person, but I think you miss the minor problem that technology has made the world smaller, more crowded and it harder if not impossible to live in splendid isolationism.

The US isn't 3 weeks sailing away anymore. You can speak to someone in Australia instantly. You can communicate via an online translator with someone you don't share language with. The world is at your finger tips and you can carry it around in your pocket.

Not everyone shares nostalgia for the Stone Age. And even if we decided we did want it, outside influences would always still try and interfere and find their way in whether we like it or not.

Your idealism is quaint. I wish the world was that simple in many respects. But it's just not.

Yes reality. It's a bastard.

{Being free of potential EU tyranny.}
Here in sunny 'EU land' it is obvious that the Brussels bureaucrats are really cracking the whip and making life hell for the citizens.
Or perhaps not.

Hazards · 11/02/2019 16:15

You are a bastard for risking medicine supply

You are a bastard for wanting fresh food to be even more expensive

You are indeed a bastard.

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 16:15

Your idealism is quaint

Grin ....

1tisILeClerc · 11/02/2019 16:17

{I think @StepLadders007 is just shitting us.}
Bored troll perhaps?

jasjas1973 · 11/02/2019 16:17

Chancellor Angela Merkel advocated a reconciliation of interests at the international, parliamentary level. "Nation-states should be willing to give up their sovereignty today," Merkel said on Wednesday in Berlin. But this should be done in an orderly process, which would require a parliament.......

.......Merkel explained that Germany had given up part of its sovereign rights to the European Union. "But the states are the masters of the treaties". This requires always the backing and the decision of the national parliament. The heart of democracy is parliament, Merkel said

Rather different from steps interpretation.

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 16:18

Why isn't anyone doing anything ?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47200688

The UK food industry has threatened to stop co-operating with government policy consultations, saying it is busy trying to stave off the "catastrophic impact" of a no-deal Brexit.

The warning came in a letter to Environment Secretary Michael Gove from more than 30 business leaders.

(contd)

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 16:19

Name one EU imposed law that you wish to revoke

Let's go for policies: The CFP.

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 16:19

jasjas1973

Respect Grin you have more patience than I do. Hope you haven't lost too much intelligence ....

RedToothBrush · 11/02/2019 16:19

Anyway, I suggest that we all stick to contemplating reality and not indulging fantastists who seem to have had a bump to the head and are unsure of the current year.

It's not going to achieve anything trying to spell out how the world works in the modern era with all this new fangled stuff.

Currently Globalism is purely for the benefit of Corporations which benefits a tiny percentage of the population - when Globalisation is for the good of the people then I will get on board with it and not before.

BiglyBadgers · 11/02/2019 16:24

I'm against Globalisation and believe in Nation states having full sovereignty over their own affairs.

What does that even mean? It's one of those things people say but has no connection with reality.

What does this mythical sovereignty look like? Can I eat it? Will trade deals with the US that force us to sell off the NHS and flood the market with chemical filled chicken give us more or less sovereignty?

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 16:24

I take it that anyone who disagrees with you people is a troll?

No wonder we find ourselves so divided.
