Westminstenders: Competitive Stupidity

RedToothBrush · 10/02/2019 16:00

A week of wondering which MP is going to be the most dumb.

There is stiff competition between parties and remain / leave.

Expect incredible bids of ignorance and incompetence to curl your toes, with a bit of constitutional craziness thrown in for good measure.

Valentine's Day beckons...

... And so does the No Deal Divorce.

Oh fuck, I’m so cross about all of this. I don’t get cross very often.

Maybe we wouldn't be in this mess if people had got a bit more cross a bit earlier ?

Huggybear16 · 11/02/2019 15:38

@StepLadders007

Despite all the hostility on here I'm still glad we're leaving

Thanks for clarifying. We're glad you're glad Confused

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 15:39

We always had sovereignty, for heaven's sake.
Seriously? That's your best argument? You think that all the economic shit that has happened is the EU's fault. The economic shit to come won't be their fault, that's for sure.

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 15:39

Here's an idea for mischief, while the UK burns ...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-47156328

A zoo in the US state of Texas is celebrating Valentine's Day by inviting visitors to name cockroaches after their ex-partners.

In an event called Quit Bugging Me!!!, keepers at El Paso Zoo will feed the insects to hungry meerkats.

They will also display ex partners' names around the meerkat enclosure and on social media.

(contd)

How about cockroaches called "Boris", "Jacob", "Nigel" and one of your choice ... "Jeremy" ?

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 15:40

what a bastard I am

Not a word that springs to mind, I'll admit.

jasjas1973 · 11/02/2019 15:41

I'm against Globalisation and believe in Nation states having full sovereignty over their own affairs

That has worked very well in keeping the peace in Europe over the last 1000 years........

TalkinPeece · 11/02/2019 15:41

Stepladder
I'm against Globalisation
Brexit will not stop globalisation.
It will just leave the UK on the outside track, struggling to keep up.

Lucygoeswalkies · 11/02/2019 15:41

Step *Despite all the hostility on here I'm still glad we're leaving.

I'm against Globalisation and believe in Nation states having full sovereignty over their own affairs.

I know, eh, what a bastard I am*

Yeah, yeah. Whatever.

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 15:42

What DG's lovely picture about democracy doesn't go into is the details.

The EU council makes all the decisions. How do we get rid of the council if we don't like their decisions? Answer is we can't. Not really.

How do we get rid of the cabinet if we don't like their decisions. We vote them out in a general election.

prettybird · 11/02/2019 15:42

....and about that 500 page Brexit White Paper? Wink

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 15:42

Just so you know when you are trotting out other people's ideas, "globalisation " is code for International Jewish Conspiracy. Nice company you are keeping if you keep going with that one.

Lucygoeswalkies · 11/02/2019 15:45

Maybe we wouldn't be in this mess if people had got a bit more cross a bit earlier ?

I’m getting in some practice now, and fully intend to spend the rest of my life being cross in order to avert civil war. Hope it bloody works.

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 15:46

I'm against Globalisation and believe in Nation states having full sovereignty over their own affairs.

So how does the UKs participation in (say) the GFA strike you ? Or the UN. Or the ones listed here ?

www.gov.uk/guidance/uk-treaties#lists-of-treaties

Because there's no difference between those and the 1972 treaty enjoining the UK into the EEC. As is bleeding obvious by the fact the UK is now able to revoke that treaty.

So now I can call you a thick Brexiteer. Unless you pony up an example of where the UK has not been sovereign thanks to the EU ? Points will be deducted if you cite something that the UK government made law, so you need to be careful. Negative intelligence is a real thing ! (It's where you debate with someone anf come away knowing less than when you started. I'm sure I knew what arable farming was before Brexit ....)

PerverseConverse · 11/02/2019 15:47

If I had a pound for every time my mum says in our discussions "but surely they (the government..." I'd buy is all a take away. She doesn't seem to believe that there is NO FUCKING PLAN. NO FUCKING VIABLE IDEAS. And not much hope. "Oh yes, it was awful in Northern Ireland." THAT'S WHAT WE ARE HEADING BACK TO WITH NO FUCKING DEAL!! My mum is a head in the sand person. Don't ask too many questions, just get on with things and don't make a fuss. I'm the exact opposite.

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 15:48

What DG's lovely picture about democracy doesn't go into is the details.

What a stadium full of Brexiteers hasn't done - over 2 years - is go into details about Brexit.

Touche !

Destiel · 11/02/2019 15:51

Leavers spend a lot of time telling us what they dont believe in.

What do they believe in? Aside from plunging the UK back to the deprivations/political upheavals of the 1930s?

No plans.

No clear ideas.

No deals.

They are shysters. Rich white men playing fast and loose with laws and regulations for their own benefit.

Bastards.

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 15:52

Just so you know when you are trotting out other people's ideas, "globalisation " is code for International Jewish Conspiracy. Nice company you are keeping if you keep going with that one

Seriously, that's mental.

Everybody likes to feel individual and special so:
{Despite all the hostility on here I'm still glad we're leaving. }
I am especially glad you particularly are leaving.
Just a bit pissed off that you are making my friends and family leave too though.

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 15:56

Did you know the EU have trade agreement clauses (such as one with Japan) so if the UK trades a better deal that Japan must give the EU the same deal

Yup. The harder the UKs negotiators work, the better is is for the EU (who don't need to life a finger). Rinse and repeat for subsequent trade deals.

Remind me how "skilled" the UK negotiators are (looks at a ferry company with no fucking ships ....) ?

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 15:57

Unless you pony up an example of where the UK has not been sovereign thanks to the EU

It's about potential sovereignty, or the lack of it.

www.minareport.com/2018/11/26/merkel-european-countries-must-hand-over-their-sovereignty-to-brussels/

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/02/2019 16:01

I'm amused that in leaver language 'hostility' and 'having someone explain to you why you are wrong' mean the same thing.
They really do have the most delicate wickle feelings don't they? .

StepLadders007 · 11/02/2019 16:02

Right, so. What you guys what is for all countries to give up their Sovereignty to the EU (as per the link provided) so the EU can run things as they see fit for us despite "the people" never, ever, being able to vote out the people that run the EU en masse.

Sorry, f**k that.

TalkinPeece · 11/02/2019 16:05

@Stepladders007
It's about potential sovereignty, or the lack of it.
So how will you measure the success of Brexit?

DGRossetti · 11/02/2019 16:06

It's about potential sovereignty, or the lack of it.

Not it's not. It's about you being asked to provide an example of where the UK has not been sovereign.

Try again.
