Following on from the fantastic thread of the weekend, I thought we'd continue discussing our brexit cupboards and boxes here. Here's to all the preppers and their cupboards, no matter what they contain. (Keep quiet about your stash in real life).

So much brilliant advice on here. I've just noticed that bodyform sanitary protection is made in Sweden and it's often the only non-smelly brand (apart from naturecare) so that's on list.

PerverseConverse · 05/02/2019 21:14

@Jog22 lillets teenage range is much nicer than bodyform. It's softer and less cumbersome I find. Superdrug seems the only place that sells them now. Often the £1. Dd1 is 11 so will stock up just in case.

I've just received an order of freeze dried raspberries from tentmeals.co.uk, I'm happy with the price and the quality so just thought I'd share here - they do a few other dried or freeze dried fruit options, plus dried mixed vegetables.

bellinisurge · 05/02/2019 21:33

Nice suggestion about the raspberries.

I know it might be a bit out there for some women and as I am in my fifties it's not for me, but how about thinking about reusable menstrual products. Loads of well made pads with fun designs available on Etsy. My dd hasn't started yet but is up for trying them. I've said it's totally her choice but it's a variation to just stacks of pads.

bluechameleon · 05/02/2019 23:08

I use cloth pads (or at least I did and will again when my period returns, but it hasn't yet at 1 year post partum) and I love them. They are much comfier.

FoodologistGirl · 05/02/2019 23:33

I remember how dull food was in the 70s. So I’ve been freezing chillies, ginger & garlic they can be grated straight in or over dishes. Plus some lemon and lime slices frozen for zest in recipes or gin. I’m going down fighting!

MadauntofA · 06/02/2019 06:12

I don't need them either, and struggled a bit with pads, but loved my Femmycycle menstrual cup and will definitely buy some options for dd when needed. Any recommendations for really thin pads - the ones I bought were really bulky?

bluechameleon · 06/02/2019 08:41

I have Charlie Banana, Eco Femme, Imse Vimse and Earthwise pads. I like the Earthwise ones best. They are thicker than disposable pads but they mould more to you so I'd say they are less visible.

BobDobbs · 06/02/2019 08:48

I use a cup, with reusable pads as a back up. I have some very thin ones the equivalent of panty liners. I got mine from earthwise girls, they have some especially for teens or petite women too : www.earthwisegirlsuk.co.uk/reusable-sanitary-towels-teen-petite-c-1_19.html

PerverseConverse · 06/02/2019 09:44

3 packs of napping pants added to my supplies. Ds will probably decide to be dry at night now just to spite my smugness Grin

Also managed to get extra medication so that's a relief.

3 extra sweaty pits deodorant ordered from amazon. £4 each instead of £5 from Tesco or anywhere else.

Waitrose have sent me a load of vouchers again today so will use them to help stock up. I like their colour washing powder.

Ocado warehouse burns www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-47141418

10% of their UK capacity. Given the current political climate, I hate to think how well stocked it was.

PerverseConverse · 06/02/2019 16:24

I've boycotted Ocado since their TRA rubbish.

I've frozen tofu for the first time today. It's off white when opened but has turned a fudge colour in the freezer! Weird!

Blimey Perverse was it standard, out the fridge, lives in water stuff? Roll it in cornflour and fry, should be fine.

Don't use Ocado either, but all that stash Shock Shock

PerverseConverse · 06/02/2019 16:47

Yes the Tofoo brand.

I realise I sounded hardship over Ocado but whatever my opinion it's awful that all that food has gone to waste.

I've been experimenting with longlife milk and have discovered that moo brand tastes pretty similar to normal milk and (crucially) the children will drink it. I've tried a few non dairy types as well and my favourite is oat milk. Even if we don't have any brexit related food shortages I will use the cartons for camping this summer and when I forget to buy fresh milk

blibblibs · 06/02/2019 21:04

We liked the moo milk best of all after a recommendation on the previous thread.
I've used it for cheese sauce and Angel delight and pancakes and DC didn't notice the difference. Oh and porridge too.
Sainsburys have it on offer for 80p too.

mum2jakie · 06/02/2019 21:21

Moo milk is 69p in B&Ms if you have one locally. It was down to 59p in Home Bargains the other week but stocks were low.

BobDobbs · 06/02/2019 22:31

Thanks for the moo milk tips!

JosephineBucket · 07/02/2019 03:49

I got Moo Milk from Poundstretcher for 50p but the date is May 2019 so OK to get through worst of the initial transition but not for long term stocking up. I find it OK in tea but DC really don't like it so I'm experimenting with sterilized and UHT whole milk as the dislike might have come from being skimmed. If the worst comes to the worst I'll get flavoured milk as they love that!

We should find out about moving this week but I have decided to go for a week's worth of food for 2 adults and 3 children as that seems doable space-wise and won't be excessive to move. I don't want to keep putting it off on the chance that we move.

cloudtree · 07/02/2019 10:01

Lots of interesting shelf stable stuff in Lidl this morning for Greek week. For those with larger stashes its good to add variety.

rainbowruthie · 07/02/2019 14:42

Thanks for the 'Moo milk' info, think that is all I need to buy now!

AutumnCrow · 07/02/2019 15:01

My Asda was out of gnocchi today. Also the polenta (which is shelf stable for about six months) was running low for the first time ever.

PerverseConverse · 07/02/2019 20:37

Waitrose have just emailed me a £20 voucher if I spend £80 online. Sounds good to me!

I thought of some things the other day and not sure if they have been mentioned - but a lack of fresh fruit and vegetables has so some people were getting vitamins. But fibre might also be a problem so my suggestions are, prune juice, prunes and milled flax/linseed. Also chia seed. You can add the milled stuff to bread or porridge easily. Same with prune juice, which gives a sweet taste.
